Agree. And that small percentage would probably only be pf's/c's that are primarily defenders/rebounders. Lifting screws up your shot so it would be hard to imagine any other position players that would use steroids.
Hopefully they picked up these guards because they are going to package Brooks, etc for Amare. Not sold on Rubio...and I cant imagine us paying the 5 mil to get him away from Spain
Look at all the players who "look like a regular guy", guys like stockton and nash, what do they have that helped them make up for the lack of athleticism and speed? Yes a high IQ is one thing, but they all could shoot very well. Im not trying to be ignorant by saying of he's slow sometimes so that's it he won't make it...i'm looking at his overall game. For example. What's the worst thing a set shooter can be? Slow? short? No handles? skinny? While all those things may make it more difficult for them to get a shot off, not one of those things alone is enough to shut him down. A skinny set shooter may have handles allowing him to create space. Or a short set shooter may have speed or bulk to allow him to create space. However, a combination of those could possibly be deadly to their career. Look at Novak. No handles, slow, skinny. He has a combination of those. Yes he's tall and can shoot over most, but that doesn't help if the defender just stays an inch in front of you since you're not a threat to drive. So that's what i see in rubio, a combo of slow lateral speed, lack of bulk, possibly lack of strength, and no shot. That combination doesn't scream out superstar even if the guy has the brain of Einstein....The guy he's most comparable to, Jkidd, has good strength as a young player and slowly got stronger and bigger to use his bulk to defend faster or bigger players. I'm not saying rubio can't do the same, i'm just saying it's unlikely given what i've seen from spanish players, so it's not as simple as assuming a team will throw a strength training program at him and rubio will automatically embrace it.
yeah i dou bt he'll be as agood of a rebounder like kidd, but i think that's still the closest comparison...of all the point guards with incredible passing ability, kidd is the only one with a "broken" jumper...of course that will change if Rubio manages to develop one, but it's not a sure thing he will.
Well if Rubio could be ANYTHING like Jkidd...that would help this team a lot more than just a good scoring PG that Brooks is. Remember Kidd in his prime was a triple machine and led his team to the finals twice. If any PG compares to Kidd it's Rondo, both Rondo and Kidd have questionable shooting ability and both are good PGs.
what do you consider "jacked".....i often hear fans say guys like dwight howard are muscle bound, they talk about them as if they are Mr olympia, but Dwight has a large bone structure, his shoulder are very wide, if you look at him shirtless he's really not that muscle bound, he looks big because of his frame, im not saying he doesn't work hard and doesnt have any muscular build, but he's not exactly "jacked"....anyway, that's who i think of when fans say that, but who would you say is jacked in the NBA? There's a small % of players who lift religiously, but they usually have a love for it, a background in football, or naturally have a large fram and it doesn't take much to get them jacked up. Kevin willis was a guy who loved it and didn't do it for the NBA game, but because he liked it himself. I'd be surprised if many players lifted heavy for the NBA game.
i've seen him play. his first step is extremely ordinary. i do admit he has court vision and can make the flashy pass, but can't shoot, no quick first step, skinny/weak -> can't post up, no shot, no offense, average defense... plus he won't be NBA ready till another 3 years.
well that's my point, that may be the reason for it, if spanish players believe in that strongly enough then an NBa team isn't going to convince them to lift to gain muscle or size.
the only things close to kidd is that rubio is very unselfish and will give the ball up and can't shoot.
how about brooks jermain taylor 1st round pick brian cook for ricky rubio and one of their bad contracts
and i said this in the thread about the rockets trying to move up to pick a rookie pg and it's starting to creep up now, why aren't more fans concerned with Rubio going back to spain if things don't work out?? Personally, i hate players who try to get out of a pick, it's like being a millionaire ball player isn't good enough, they still want to have the city of their choice.........however, i do think there's a slight difference between an american and a foreign player acting this way. Of course we all know Francis did the same thing, but francis' only concern was the city, with a foreign player, he's going to be worried about the city AND country. so even if rubio goes to the city he wants, that may not be the end of the story, he may eventually not be comfortable in the states. His agent didnt let him work out with anyone else, which is a smart move so he wont be exposed in any way, but if this kid starts to struggle early and runs the risk of fading into obscurity because teams stop giving him minutes, his agent is going to suggest he go back to Europe to get more PT and polish his game more and return later once his stock has gone up again......I dont think we should risk that unless this kid was a sure thing NOW, and he's not.
