That would be awesome. We'd be title contenders year end year out and we'd set a division rival back about a decade.
He's 18 and already being judged as if he's a 8 year veteran in his prime. Yes, maybe a bit right on average defense, but i see him above average. The kid started playing when he was 14 and within 4 years he has become his country's brightest stars. Proved his worth against USA in the Olympics. With only 4 years total of play in basketball. This kid has an Magic Johnson Superstar potential IMO. Superstar players gave him nothing but tremendous praise especially from a selfish desired sport in Basketball. Obviously you can easily point out his strengths and weaknesses, people may be deceived of his weaknesses by overlooking his playmaking ability. The majority of NBA players begin playing ball when they were still peeing in their beds. This kids history in basketball is just extremely intriguing. Except for the fact that his parents has him on a leash. With that said, I would just like to point out the kids unbelievable potential and why teams desire him so greatly.
kahn needs to be firm. if he prefers europe over minny, let him stay over there. geez, who doesn't want to play in NY .
I honestly think the Rubio camp is handling this in the worst way possible. 1. They never really worked out a workable buyout with ANY NBA team. That buyout is definitely way too high for Rubio to afford. 2. If they are demanding a trade, that's all they are going to get--a demand. Kahn and the Wolves don't have to do anything. Sure they lose their #5 pick, but they have Flynn and can wait for Rubio and his team to make up their minds. Which brings up the point.. 3. That the Wolves owns his rights whether or not he goes back to Europe. If Rubio really wants to play in the NBA, he better suck it up and come over. What does he think is going to happen if he goes back to the EuroLeague? That Minnesota is going to trade his rights away because he's crying? 4. Lets say he goes back to the EuroLeague and blows it up. Like, BLOWS IT UP. His rights are STILL owned by Minnesota and I can only imagine his buyout would go up as well. If he crash and burn and his stock drops, the only thing he can do is go and play for Minnesota. Like some have said on here, if Rubio had really wanted to play in the NBA, it wouldn't matter where he goes and he should have realized that when he entered a DRAFT. Otherwise, Ricky shouldn't have entered the draft at all. I'm not a big fan of GMs drafting players and using them as bargaining chips because that's a very cheap tactic but if Rubio wants to play in the NBA as badly as it's been reported, he needs to just get a buyout worked out and suit up.
His buyout won´t go up, unless he and his agent are morons. The best way for rubio to go to the NBA will be to go to the justice and ask a buyout reduction, lets say he sets for 3 millions. Euro teams can afford that, so he would have to most likely, sign with an euro team for two years on a reasonable salary, and set a buyout for nba teams around a million. That way he can play, be well paid, and keep his nba window open.
Who's exactly in charge of the buyout? I'm asking is because I was always under the impression that it's the team that has him under contract. If that's the case, then wouldn't a team want to increase his buyout if he becomes a better player / hotter commodity? I don't really know the behind the scenes details on buyouts and how it's place but I think the team has the right to set the buy out right?
Let's not spin this, Minny's new GM screwed up. He should have traded the pick, instead he got greedy and now every NBA smells blood in the water. It's laughable to think that Rubio staying in Europe benefits Minnesota in any way, because it doesn't, and if Morey is actually willing to part with both T Mac's expiring contract, plus Brooks, then the Wolves would be nuts not to seriously consider the offer.
I'm with you on this too in that Kahn could have made this situation a lot easier by drafting Curry and Flynn and be done with it.
NBA teams can only contribute $500k to a players' buy-out. Every team that would've drafted Rubio is happy to give the $500k max. Buyout won't go up, it actually goes down. He has two years left on his current contract, and the buy-out decreases each year. In 2 years he will control his own rights again. I think both sides (Rubio's team and Minny) understood the situation and are playing the scenarios through. There is still a very high possibility of a win-win outcome -- Rubio ending up on another NBA, and Minny ending up with solid assets for the #5 pick.
Getting nothing for a #5 pick is always a major thing. The T-Wolves would look like complete idiots. Yeah, they got another PG but they still could have had their PG and another top prospect. Rubio is basically a graduating senior. He has plenty of time to wait before coming over, especially since he has to pay a huge amount to do it. Maybe one day GM's will realize that dealing with foreign players is a completely different ballgame. They have options to get paid in their home countries unlike the American players that get caught up in the NBA/College basketball system.
Here is a win-lose situation, Rubio could always threat to stop playing pro basketball for a year, so he can re-enter the draft next year...
If Minnesota truly believes that Rubio is the real deal, him going emo and going back to Europe is like a godsend to them. Think about the following. 1. They get one year of development of Rubio for FREE while they can use the season to judge other prospects. 2. Rubio's rookie contract won't start for another year, meaning they get one more year of his prime at a bargain salary. 3. Rubio's buyout will be smaller next year I believe, meaning Rubio won't be b!tching about money as much as he will if he comes this year, given that Minnesota will offer little in terms of endorsement and other sources of income. Overall, because Minnesota doesn't give a damn about winning this season, they really have no risk unless Rubio bombs. But then again, that's the risk that any team takes on when they draft a player. So it's not a big deal. My point is, Minnesota won't just unload Rubio for the sake of getting rid of him. And IMO the Rockets has no shot unless someone like Jermain Taylor blows up and becomes the next Monta Ellis or something.
Rookie GM is pinned to the wall, Dan Fegan's on the prowl. Fegan got burnt in the Yi-Bucks debacle. He lost some face, now he's going to get it back.
I believe there is a limit on how long a team can hold a players rights before he re-enters the draft.
I believe that player has to not play pro ball for a whole year in order to do that. Hard to imagine why Rubio would do that because even he re-enters the draft, he could be picked by a Minny or Memphis again, no?
