Timber Wolves has a smart GM now, he was shifting an obvious rejection from Rubio's camp into a contract issue. At the same time, confirming Rubio he will be the starting PG and will wait 2 years if he play that card... My personal suggestion for Rubio: Rumor that you will stop playing pro Basketball for a year... Link: http://www.nba.com/2009/news/06/26/rubio.wolves.ap/index.html
People want Rubio not only for his skills, but what he means to the team. Imagine in a year or two you're seeking a coveted free agent. You have Rubio to deliver dimes to him from all over the court and the other team does not. Which team do you think that free agent signs with?
Perhaps we should assume that the team in question actually has the money to sign "coveted free agents." It's my understanding that New Orleans is in deep financial gumbo.
Article about Rockets interest in Rubio. Its all in Spanish but have given a very basic translate of it, so grammar and other things may be off, but you should get the main idea. And nothing really new here from the other things we heard but thought Id post it anyways. http://www.abc.es/20090627/deportes-baloncesto/rockets-unen-knicks-interes-200906271208.html http://translate.google.com/transla...200906271208.html&sl=es&tl=en&history_state0= ^^^Page in english.
Food for Thought: Ricky Rubio For the Rubio or non-Rubio fans out there here's an interesting article about what's going on in Minnesota. Ricky Rubio, Playing Minnesota Poker http://myespn.go.com/blogs/truehoop/0-41-157/Ricky-Rubio--Playing-Minnesota-Poker.html
Rubio could be great investment for the future, i would trade anybody not named Yao Ming, Ron Artest and Luis Scola(LOVE HIS EFFORT ) on our team for rubio, plus if we trade for rubio we can be contenders now and in the future, now it all depends on who we are giving up for him, like the following: Tracy Mcgrady(30) 6'8 Jermaine Taylor(22) 6'5 Carl Landry (25) 6'9 Chase Budinger(21)6'7 rights to Sergio Llull (6'3) for Ricky Rubio(18) 6'4 Rodney Carney(25) 6'7 Jason Collins(30) 7'0 Etan thomas (31) 6'10 Ryan Gomes (26) 6'8
The interest in knowing what plans they have for the Minnesota Timberwolves on the future of basic Spanish Ricky Rubio, who identified with the number five in the past sweepstakes university has also come to the Houston Rockets, who managed his compatriot Sergio Llull. If the name of the Knicks in New York was the one that has sounded in recent hours on the exchange of "messages" among its managers, from the university the night of the draw Rockets also made contact with the Timberwolves to let them know who could speak of a transfer if they wished. Managers and knew throughout the night of the draw worked hard to see what could be done and so far kept a complete silence on the matter, although they have very clear queé is what would come to give the Timberwolves if you sit down to talk about a possible transfer. But managers of the Rockets have been unwilling to make any official comment on the strategy followed in the university lot, which did not begin operating until the second round when they bought the rights of the three selected. Talent Llul While the Rockets showed in equipment and private interest Rubio parallel also worked hard to establish the rights of Llull, who purchased the Denver Nuggets, who were selected in the second round with number 34. For now, the general manager of the Rockets, Daryl Morey, in the presentation of the base of the Jermain Taylor and Chase alero Büdingen, Rubio did not want to talk about, but praised the characteristics of game Llull, which was defined as a player with a great talent and future projection. "Our philosophy is to get talented players in that sense we have made a great acquisition Llull," Morey said during the presentation of Taylor and Büdingen. The manager admitted that the Rockets could go Llull in Spain with Real Madrid, but that was beneficial to all parties. "What we do know and are convinced that Sergio is an extremely talented base, a high base, which are very hard to find," Morey noted. "We believe it is a wise purchase of their rights, whether we use it as part of a transfer as if one day he joined the team."

The ONLY positive on this guy is that he is a playmaker, which the Rockets BADLY NEED. However, he is 18 and unproven in the NBA. I would not give up too much for him. Using him on a draft pick is one thing...its always an experiment with most players, especially international players. Your basically rolling the dice. But to trade away proven players is a completely different story. I would do it, if it doesn't cost us much, but that won't happen. New York is almost pressured by their demanding fans and market to get him there. Other teams which haven't been contenders in some time will also take the chance. But for the Rockets, (who do need to improve) they are a proven team with proven NBA teams, who just came off their most successful season. No need to make a "drastic change" for this team. We've added some potential depth in the draft, and we need to either commit to Artest or let him walk. We have a great power forward tandem and potentially get back Tmac and will get back Yao at some point. I say no to this trade if it will cost us too much...
The trade I heard on SR610 was AB/Carl/Shane for Rubio+. If this trade happens, are the Rockets going in another direction? The guy is both raw and a playmaker but is unproven. He would need PT to grow but would he start over Lowry to expedite tapping into his potential? I wouldn't mind this trade, if we knew at the end we would get CP3 but NO won't let him go.
Can't give you a word for word but the jist is similiar to what we already know: Rox and Knicks are among the teams calling about Rubio. It also says the Rockets targetted Lull in the second round and quotes Morey as saying that they beleive Lull has the talent to contribute to this team in the future but admitting that Lull will need a few more years seasoning with his club in Europe (Real Madrid) before we bring him over.
Trading any one of our established contributors for Rubio would strike me as a move to increase revenue and fan appeal and it would represent a move away from the winning atmosphere that Morey has established so far in his tenure. I don't want to go through the growing pains of Rubio. First of all, he is physically and emotionally immature. I've heard he has a bit of an ego. At 18 years old this kid could be fragile as hell. Who knows what would happen if his career got started off in rough way. He could easily whine about minutes and threaten to go back overseas. Second, there's going to be a huge learning curve for him coming into the NBA. It's difficult to win NBA games. We have to play to a certain formula to be successful and I don't see him as a part of that formula any time soon. He needs the ball to be successful, he's going to cost an arm and a leg, he's an average defender at best, his outside shot is inconsistant and he's by know means a sure thing in the NBA. Overall, Rubio would draw more fan interest to the team, but to trade proven winners like Battier or Landry would just not sit well with me. We have to win now. Think about it. IMO the odds of Mcgrady returning and providing the playmaking we need in the backcourt are higher than the odds of Rubio coming in at 18 years old, never playing against anything close to the competition in the NBA, outplaying established players like Brooks and Lowry, and leading the team to a championship. That 'aint happening. Look at all the young players who come out of Europe. They take a few years to really catch on(especially young PGs). You also have to look at what getting this guy is going to cost us. Shane Battier was the heart and soul of the team last year and Landry played a very valuable role off the bench and he gives the team solid minutes every night. Both guys are tough and unselfish. Those are attributes that lead to wins especially in the playoffs. I might trade Tracy and a guy like Wafer for Rubio. That is almost worth the risk, but Landry Shane and Aaron....I would not trade any of them for an overhyped, 18 year old PG with a ton of question marks and little to no experience against elite competition.
