no thats not what he is saying he is saying that though the kid is 18 he has a the potential to develop into a big time star like kobe.

remember kobe was drafted in 96 the lakers didnt start winning rings till 2000 it wasnt like kobe wasnt play for the lakers from 96-99 those seasons were when Kobe developed and grew as a player and the lakers were still competitive.

No one is saying Rubio is like kobe but they could have similar careers where for the first 3-4 seasons of their NBA career they did well but not amazing (kobe came off the bench his rookie season too) but then started to flourish and carry their teams.

i think Morey's biggest fear is becoming like the Heat who sacrificed everything for a 2-3 year window and they won it all which made it worth it but now are just stuck in turmoil and are wasting away the prime years of Wade's career.

Rubio will be in the NBA this year
No team would draft him this high, or trade for him now and not play him now.

Exactly my point. But with the Cavs having such a "low" pick, this is a worse deal for Eyenga than it is for the Cavs.

Still, Danny Ferry may have factored this all in to his decision, thinking also that:

    (1) Eyenga may (like many other young foreign players) desperately want to fulfill his dream of playing in the NBA, even if it means that he has to take less money to do so.

    (2) At only 19-years-old and already an NBA first round draft pick, Eyenga and the Cavs can monitor the next Euro contract he gets to make sure the buyout is not too cumbersome.

    (3) Eyenga may not be THAT good by the time he is "ready enough" to come over to the NBA. It may be that he comes over when he is 21 or 22, but he develops into a significantly better player from the ages of 22 to 25.

This same thought process can be applied to any other NBA GM.

The Tiago Splitter situation was a little different. Splitter had entered and then pulled out of the previous 3-4 drafts. When he was taken, he was automatically draft-eligible. By this time, Tiago had established himself was one of the top 3 young big men in all of Europe. A player of that caliber (as opposed to an 18- or 19-year old) is going to have a bigger European contract with a much bigger buyout clause. Heck, Ricky Rubio was making peanuts for DKV Joventut, which was why his family was suing the team for having such an onerous buyout amount.

Um they would if they ththought that was the right course of action for him....plus he's 18 what if he just gets abused this year and it kills his confidence...it's best to wait and bring him on slowly...there's no rush he's 18...
and his body is nowhere near nba ready if he played for the rox this season his boxscore is going to read a whole bunch of DNP. let him stay overseas pay more and develop it's the best option for rubio and whoever gets him .

IMO Minny picked Rubio to keep him not to trade him. Unless Rubio pulls a Steve Francis and forces a trade, he will play in Minnesota next year or in a couple of years.

And I honestly don't think that the kid is ready for the NBA. He probably can use a couple of years more in Europe.

I think its more likely he pulls a Francis. Minnesota has absolutely nothing attractive: team sucks, weather sucks, not a big market.. He said he didn't want to play for Memphis or Oklahoma, let me laugh now that he is in Minny. He will definitely be traded imo.

His agent is Fegen, the guy who bullied the Bucks management in order to bring Yi to a bigger market. I guess he will probably do the same again.

Minny has many pgs and their C and PF position are solid. After Miller is gone, they need a solid SF in their squad. Battier makes the perfect candidate, great team defender and a role model for their kid players. Battier+Barry is a reasonable offer.

so what happens if he gets hurt? isnt the same player after that? i dont mind stashing a guy overseas but not a lottery pick. see how darko turned out to figure out "stashing" a lottery pick doesnt work too well

rubio is going to be a superstar? you have GOT to be kidding me.

you see a superstar when you see one. kobe would have been drafted #1 if the high schoolers set a precedent earlier (he was one of the very first few). kobe had the hops, the stroke, first step, athleticism, inclination to be the best, handles, passing, defense... (just his immaturity). hell, you saw that in KG or tmac

all i see in this guy is his handles and passing game. he'll be a very good PG at his best b/c he's very unselfish and he loves to pass. i see ZERO offensive game, not the quickest first step needed for a PG (unless you can shoot lights out like steve nash or john stockton which he doesn't), poor strength...
