Sounds like Bowen is a guy who wants to win. That is why he chose us over the other teams.

Yao 'n TMac are really attractive. :D

Exactly, we have multiple players, playing multiple positions, dependant upon matchups. We are going to be unstopable.

Who's gonna win the camp battle for "mystery injury"? You know every year some has plantar fasciates or shin splints all year.

This really sucks that Boki is not going to be given a chance AGAIN.

Hopefully i am wrong and JVG uses Boki but we can only wait and see. I don't know how Bowens offense is but he might just be for defensive purposes and stuff but you never know i guess.

I know it's going to irk a lot of Boki fans out there and just push the notion that this boy has not been given any time to prove anything.

I hope your perdictions that they are going to use Boki at the 2 as well to create mismatches with his height are correct so he gets to play.

No longer necessary. Rosters have been expanded to 15 players - the injured reserve list is no more.

So we just payed some guy $800,000 to fill out a roster spot....thought we were going after talented players. Not thrilled over here.

nachbar can still earn playing time with a good show in training camp and preseason. he has his work cut out for him but basically he still has the opportunity to show what he's worth.

This is a good enough endorsement for me:

Pat Riley once called (Bowen) "the best hustling player I've ever seen in the NBA"

Bowen is a much better defender than Boki but offensively he is no better than him. I think when he is playing it will be like having a 4 on 5 situation on offense ala Cato which can be offset having Yao,T-Mac and Howard on the court.
His advantage is his experience and recognizing his role as a defensive specialist.
It still cuts into Boki's playing time and he probably won't be getting many minutes unless he outplays him in the preseason.
I hope Gaines will do better than expected but it looks like he will be on the bench most of the time as well.

OK, I trust JVG and CD (and Riles!), so -- good signing.

Now, what about Boki? Is he off to Boston?

We have not had an energy guy like this since David Wood, or Chucky Brown.

A good guy to have as the 12th man.

xiki-What makes you think that? What does Boston have that we could possibly want, short of a TE+ for Payton, who IMO is out of our price range/needs this year?

Boki has value as a shooter and slasher to the basket; he has the potential to be a plus offensive player if he isn't already. In the limited time I've seen Bowen, offensively he's a put back player. Nothing more. A guy who will absolutely punish teams on the offensive glass when the defense is out of the position for a rebound due to collapsing on Yao/TMac. OTOH, Bowen is a plus defensive player.

Bowen adds a dimension to the depth, he doesn't replace it.

Boki needs to can the 3 pointer, or else he won't even sniff significant playing time with TMac and Yao. There's only so much time on the court to be shared when TMac and Yao are not on the court. Boki can easily get more time if he can shoot the 3 pointer. This slashing to the basket stuff doesn't work with a center commanding double teams in the paint.

If Bowen beats him out for playing time, Boki is done as a Rocket. He can go ahead and call up Mike D'Antoni in Phoenix because that's where he is headed after next season. Pair him with a great point guard in Steve Nash, and Boki will be a good player in the NBA. Rockets have a bandaid at backup SF/SG this year. The long-term solution is to get Vladimir Radmanovic who is an excellent 3 point shooter. The guy could be another Peja.
