I've been wanting them to play this way ever since they drafted Yao. But the philsophy has always been if Yao lumbers up and down the court, everyone else has to.

You're not crazy.Talent wise he could start at the 2,in Tracy's absence. His immaturity is something else.

It scares me that every other NBA team passed on such a talented player. I wouldn't be suprised to see him eating vasaline and crying.

well that sounds great in theory.....but who else on the Rockets could get up and down the court nicely and actually set up or finish the fastbreak??? We don't have a Steve Nash....we had Mike James and Rafer Alston.........now if you want a team full of Rafer Alstons and Chuck Hayes and Shane Battiers to be stars in transition then you're not gonna be please in what you see

low risk, high potential reward type of signing...in other words, just another day in the office for Morey...

And for Kareem/Yao comparison roles in an uptempo offense that people like to bring up, Kareem was not the sloth that Yao is, he was fairly athletic until old age hit him. If the rest of the Rockets players on court run then pull back if there isn't an easy basket, Yao will already be gassed catching up and getting into the post. Meanwhile the 24 second shot clock will already be winding down while the other players wait for Yao to fight for post position. That's what I'm envisioning when Yao gets back.

What I mean is I wanted them to construct a running roster around Yao from the start, not get guys like Rafer, Chuck and Shane. I think Yao would have benefitted staying in the back court for a few possessions every game.

I like the signing (who wouldn't since it's not guaranteed) - but here is a little silliness on the silliness that has been RM's life un the NBA

    STORY LINK
WHY RASHAD MCCANTS IS STILL UNEMPLOYED

With very little going on in the next couple of days because it's the quiet before the training camp storm, I often find myself distracted by things on the internet (especially Twitter) that have very little to do with anything relevant in life.

A perfect example of this would be the Twitter of ex-NBA player Rashad McCants.

Rashad McCants was someone with a great deal of potential and talent coming out of North Carolina. In fact, he was taken with the 14th pick of the 2005 NBA Draft. I thought it was a steal for the Wolves to end up with him because he showed a versatile offensive attack. Unfortunately, I really had no idea what kind of mental player he was. He wasn't much of a factor in his rookie season and was actually a complete non-factor in his second season.

By the time he broke through with a solid performance in his third season, he seemingly had already worn out his welcome with the T'Wolves. He always looked like he had the body language of a malcontent. He pulled the Wally Szczerbiak role of refusing to pass to open teammates and not appearing to try much on defense. He was dealt away to the Sacramento Kings in the middle of last year and showed up with the same attitude and the same baggage. He scored in double digits for the Kings over 24 games but wasn't given a second look during the off-season when the Kings could have retained him for a very low price.

So why is Rashad McCants still unemployed? Is it because of his perceived attitude problems? Is it because he doesn't play defense? Is it because he dated something called a Kardashian? Well, the answer to this problem might be the last question I posed.

You see, Rashad used to date Khloe Kardashian. I'm not positive if she has a sex tape or not. But that doesn't really matter. What matters is the fact that Rashad McCants is showing his maturity level through his Twitter account and it all stems from his former "relationship" with Khloe.

The following is a FAKE, imagined conversation/interview (using REAL tweets from Rashad) between McCants and any GM who might be considering him for a job.

GM: Rashad, let's sit down and talk. Fantastic workout today. Your game looks good and you're in fantastic shape.

RM: Thanks, <insert name here>. Thanks for having me here.

GM: I just had a couple of questions to see where your head is. Just want to clear up a few questions we had.

    RM: Sure thing. Shoot.

GM: Well, we know you used to be involved with Khloe Kardashian. Is that correct?

RM: Yeah, that's right. But it wasn't like that. It was a set up.

GM: Okay, that's fine. Um, we recently came across some of your Twits? Tweets? Twitters? I'm not quite sure what it is. Regardless, I wanted to ask you your thoughts behind some of the things you posted on Twitter.

    RM: Like what?

GM: Well, first off do you actually do the Twitter or does someone do it for you? Like a cousin or a friend from back home? Maybe your assistant?

RM: Nah, that shi...stuff is all me. Connecting with my fans and such.

GM: Okay, good to know. Well, the other night you stated, "Ms kardashian is blaming me for her trust issues when we didn't even have a real relationship! I'm really not shocked she would do that! Hah." So what was going on with this? Why did you want people to know this stuff?

RM: See, you don't understand what this girl be like. This whole thing was set up for this TV show. It was just so she could be with a celebrity type and such.

GM: Okay. So when you said, "plus it aint cheating if the relationship was for tv in the first place.. It was all a set up like all TV shows," what was the situation with that?

RM: Oh my GOD, dude. You don't even know how funny that is to me! See she was trying to tell people that I cheated on her and shi...stuff. It's really crazy though. I mean, you feel me? How could I cheat if we wasn't together? Plus, you should have seen that girl she talking about. Oh my GOD, dude. Banging like gongs and drums.

Khloe Kardashian and new man Rashad McCants at the New Year Eves Party at PURE nightclub in Cesars Palace, Las Vegas GM: Yeah...we figured that when you posted, "hahaha If I showed you who I cheated on Khloe wit lol..... PPL WOULD GIVE ME A STANDING OVATION!!!!! she a JERSEY CHASER." We assume this was a very gorgeous young lady. The problem is that it's hard to promote a family environment with our players when we have a fan base reading comments like that.

RM: You know what the crazy thing is? I lost the B's number. I wonder if the club she work at can give me that info?

GM: This young woman works at a night club?

RM: Strip club. All nude. Champagne room. Swings. All kinds of stuff to get down.

GM: Okay, neat. Moving on, to be honest this comment by you raised an eyebrow or two around the office. "Its all good tho twit fam! What goes around comes around! Hahaha "I will strike my vengence apon the!" " And you will feel my wrath!" Lmao." LMAO? What does that mean? Is it an acronym?

RM: Nah, the letters just stand for a phrase. It means laugh my ASS off. Folks on the web say it.

GM: Well, what did you mean about your vengeance?

RM: Oh that's from that Pulp Fiction. My man, Sam Jack. He had that jheri curl. Bustin' fools left and right. Him and that angel dude.

GM: Angel? You mean, John Travolta?

RM: Yeah, him. The angel. Dude had big white wings. Hid them with one of them trench coats. Performing miracles and such.

GM: Oh! You mean the movie Michael? Yes, that was a good movie.

RM: That's my thing right there. Love Michael. Did Ang Lee direct that? Seems like something he'd put his vision into.

GM: I don't know who directed it. Rashad, the point is that we just want to make sure you aren't going to try to exact some revenge on a former girlfriend. We don't condone any kind of violence or domestic abuse. We're just covering all angles here and trying to protect what we're trying to build.

RM: Oh, don't even trip. I got this. She just a jersey chaser anyway.

GM: Do you feel like this whole incident is over?

    RM: Oh definitely.

GM: Then why did you say, "Now that I think about it!!! I'm not gonna sit back and let this chick be fake and lie on me! She must be exposed! Its on and poppin! When it comes to the truth its a game that fake ppl don't wanna play! This will be fun. Like eminem and mariah! Haha final warning! Hahahaha," after you stated you were happy for the reported engagement between her and Lamar Odom?

RM: Because it's so funny to me. I mean, why did she say that stuff? To hurt me? She called me a bench warmer? I went to North Carolina. I've scored almost 2,500 points in my career. Why she hatin'? Jealousy. What's the old Oscar Wilde quote? Fine lookin' women always jealous of their man's husbands or something like that?

GM: I believe the quote is "plain women are always jealous of their husbands. Beautiful women never are. They are always so occupied with being jealous of other women's husbands." He was a brilliant man.

RM: That's what's up. So what's the deal? I got a spot on your team or what?

    GM: We'll be in touch.

RM: Cool. I'm gonna go call The Lusty Lady and see if they have that girl's name and number. I'll holler.

I would too easily. Too bad the Rockets couldn't agree to a fair contract with Von. McCants signs with absolutely no risk at this point since its just a non-guaranteed training camp invite.

He probably could, if he learns to play a little D.

well that could have been possible but it was hardly a viable option. You had the number 1 centre (arguable) at the time in the NBA...Jeff van Gundy wanted to feature him on every possession...there was no way Yao was going to be part of any fast-break style offensive systems..and it would have been stupid not to utilise to the maximum the offensive talents of the best offensive centre in the league.

But it was foolish to sacrifice athleticsm in the name of "defense team-first players" such as Shane Battier...sure he was a great fit...but it would have still been very much possible to add hugely athletic players capable of playing fastbreak offense who could have still been able to fit in a half-court offense if needed. (rudy gay *cough *cough).

as it stood, our players were way to one-dimensional such as Chuck Hayes and Shane Battier...as a result our offense was hugely anemic...all it consisted was chuck the ball to Tmac or Yao and just be done with it

    didn't exactly work

Gelabale would have been a better choice. Too bad the Lakers signed him last week.

I agree, though atleast we know what McCants can and can't do. The jury is still out on Gelabale, plus we need scoring and shooting, two of McCants' specialties.

Agree. I actually think him and Ariza would be a pretty dynamic tandem. Small ball with Scola, Battier, Ariza, McCants and Brooks? Pretty intriguing.

I really like the direction Morey is taking this team despite the injuries. Rashad Mc Cants immediately is our backup guard like Wafer was. I believe on the right team with right coaches he can be much better than he was with a horrible organization like the Twolves are. 14 points in 26 minutes is real good. I think Pops and Mc Cants could make this team and hope they both do. They would instantly provide depth. I really hope Morey does whatever he can to get rid of the players that arent useful like Cook and Maybe Dorsey if he ends up not outplaying Pops. Maybe Jermaine Taylor in Europe to stash him somehow if he doesnt outplay Mc Cants. Mc Cants is a proven scorer though and should be more than just a nonguranteed player by the end of preseason.
