McCants has hit bottom. Two pretty bad teams didn't think you were good enough to help and now you have to take a non-guaranteed deal from among 30 NBA teams to be able to play this year. He should be hungry and ready to play, it's low risk so why not.
I am usually pretty low on these types of signing. Green for example. But this one I like. May or may not make the team. But I like... for once.
I actually hope he doesn't make the team. That's not a knock on McCants as a player. I just hope that the wings/guards that we DO have locked up under guaranteed contracts this year are as good as Morey believes they are. I hope McCants brings it as much as he can, and that his best play STILL ain't good enough to crack our squad. For Taylor to beat out McCants would say to me that he really was a steal where we drafted him.
I'm a fan of this signing. He possesses a skill set similar to Von Wafer, and he's still relatively young. I hope he sticks.
He was on my flight down from New York to Houston last night. Sat in the row behind me in first class and was a compete unfriendly ass#$%@. Tried talking to him on multiple occasions and he just stared off into space and refused to acknowledge he was being addressed.
I'm surprised we could pick him up like this. He's been mentioned on the board several times since the season ended, so getting him like this is a trip. Gotta a couple of questions maybe someone can answer. Most say McCants has no defense, or doesn't choose to play it, which amounts to the same thing. True? He's a malcontent, or that's his rep. True? Overblown? Pissed because he was not in a good situation? He had some back issues last season. Is that a potential problem, or just an injury that healed? The guy was pretty consistent at North Carolina. Does he just need to run into that right coach, who has the system that allows him to flourish, and a staff that can teach him? Is Rick Adelman that man? The guy is a load when he's on. I think he could make Von Wafer look like "McCants Lite" if he makes the team and buys into what Adelman's trying to do. A BIG if, but I'm excited about the signing. There has to be some kind of move soon from Morey. The numbers just don't add up. Fun off-season and thank god it's almost over!
Don't you think there are too many options now? I realize that they are trying to add youth, scoring, and things like that but when you have that many vying for a position, isn't it easier to lose what you were looking for in the first place? Judging from the clips he doesn't look too bad though. I hope the right guy makes the team. Kudos to morey for being able to keep track of everything
I don't understand the skepticism regarding his defense. The Rockets have plenty of players that only play defense, what's the difference? Also, tis team in particular could always use more scoring
After this signing i have lost count with how many players we have with non-guaranteed contracts!!?!?! -rocketblaze
I guess we're allowed one hot-headed player on our team each year. Shane Battier, Chuck Hayes, Yao, Luis Scola will help balance out Rashad.
