As someone pointed out before, he doesn't play defense, and he's not particularly efficient on offense either. Nevertheless, for a non-guaranteed he's a steal, and it will be fun to see if he has it in him to buy into the system. Color me pessimistic though. We've brought in similar guys before without results (Gerald Green anyone?).

He can still become that, and more. DM is very high on him and Chase...

I like this signing alot. He is a player I thought the Rockets could use since Minnesota drafted him. Hopefully he will stick and be another weapon in the Rockets' aresenal. Plus I feel better about the potential of the 2nd unit with McCants possibly on the team because he has played in this league, unlike Taylor & Budinger, both of whom I happen to like on this team.

His defense was actually pretty good coming out of college, that is a fairly common misconception with him. He was also good on D in stints with the Wolves, but they were just bad.

He is a very savvy, and smart basketball player. The 6-11 wingspan can make him a nightmare to guard.

Can't wait to see all these guys go at it against the Spurs on October 6th.

    Starting Five:

    Aaron Brooks
    T-Mac (will be ready)
    Trevor Ariza
    Luis Scola
    David Andersen

    Bench:

    Kyle Lowry
    Rashad McCants
    Shane Battier
    Carl Landry
    Pops or Hayes

Our Bench is dangerous!!! Fearless players going to the basket in Kyle and Rashad....Carl developed a turn around shot last season and Shane & Hayes are pitbulls (scrappy) types..

I really do not think Chase or JT are going to make the rotation

Right! The knock on Wafer was his attitude (based one argument although it was a really dumb one) and his lack of defense. So he is replaced by a dude with a worse attitude and slightly better defense.

I still like the signing because the Rockets need to stop bringing in second rounders and start bringing in talent at SG that has at least proven itself in the NBA. I just find it funny that Wafer was regarded as this horrible player by some of the same people who act like McCants is something special.

Well done, Rockets. That was a good move to go after him. He is pretty realiable scorer and we can use that off the bench. He can shoot as well.

I just hope he will not be another Brant Barry type of player. Used to be good but has nothing left in the tank now.

    Still, we need SIZE.

Sometimes a player needs an established group of veterans to show him the way, McCants did not get that in Minny, he will get that in Houston.

We have a team of hard working professionals, and they will show McCants what it takes to be a true NBA player.

This will be great for his career.

McGrady is the starter at SG if he comes back at even 75%
Ariza and Battier will split minutes at SF and possibly a few of the minutes at SG (but I would guess less than 10 minutes at SG between both of them)
Taylor won't crack the rotation and probably won't be on the team
Budinger probably won't crack the rotation
    Barry is done
McCants is going to pick up leftovers at SG I would assume (less than 15 minutes a night)

I think the Rockets would have brought back Wafer if he agreed to sign for the minimum. And it looks like that's what McCants would get.

This means either Pops, McCants, Dorsey, or Cook won't make the team. Best case scenario we find someone to take Cook off our hands, but if not, we're going to have to cut someone.

Works for me. This kid reminds me of Bonzi 2.0 with his attitude but for the price he can be sent home or dealt if he is a cancer.

Yeah I know that bench can give fits and the starting five can give 50 ++ points night in and night out...

We really have a great team man!!

Does a player have to be on our active roster for us to send him to the d-league? Either way I'd just find a way to get rid of Cook(trade or just cut) and then we'll have room for both Rashad and Pops

Putting up 15 points a game on 45 percent shooting in 26 minutes has got to count for something. Even if he was on the Twolves...

It is all about defense imo...

Whoever can play the the better D, between Rashad, Chase, and JT will get the "Wafer minutes" imo...
