Barry's either retiring or getting traded. That makes it 14. Cook will either be packaged or waived, bringing it down to 13. So unless, any other moves are made, Pops and McCants both have a shot to make the team. Also, can someone clarify this for me: Since Yao is out for the season, IIRC the Rockets were granted an injury-exemption which gave them an extra spot on the team to bring the total to 16 players. It also allowed them to sign Ariza without using the MLE.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY RASHAD !!!!!! (Actually Tomorrow) 25 Years Old Welcome aboard !!!! I picked you to develop into a perrenial all star coming out of college - time to start living up to potential big guy !!!!
It just allowed us to sign Ariza without using the MLE. We're still limited to 15 player roster, and Yao counts as one of the 15.
I hope Cook is gone. I like his skill set, but I just don't see him as a long-term solution. If we're going young, I'd like Taylor to get his experience here, or even in the D-League. No to Europe. I also hope we can find a role for Dorsey. He seems to be the athletic bruising big that any team could find a place for.
Taylor can't go to Europe AND remain a Rocket rights player. He's already signed a contract with us for 4 years (2+2) - if he goes to Europe it means we've released him and we've lost his rights. And (sorry to say it) I'm not sure Cook HAS a skill set anymore I was happy when we got him, but his main 'skill' now seems to be the fact that his contract is a $3.5 million dollar expiring deal. Unfortunately that's not much use to us until mid-season, and we surely don't want him around until then... I do like Jermaine Taylor - I think he'll be the better rookie for us this season.
Rashad McCants is a poet! This is one of his masterpieces. http://www.rashadmccants1.com/writings-rashad/love-thief/2008/01/24 Love Thief by Rashad McCants I'm not a Grinch that stole love but I'm a thief with no love. Eyes bright like city lights when she enters my life. Every morning after yawning we make love to sweet nothing and birds chirping. My tongue lurking for that spot that says stop and makes ya mouth drop. I'd spit you out just to taste you again. And again I'd have this dream during the day where my eyes lay wide shut. Love has culture shocked my brain and blindsided my heart, my skin crawls with butterfly touches that tickle my smile. Her eyes drown me in her deep blue sea. I openly swim naked in her fresh water. So natural she smells like rain....
I really like this signing. What we gotta do now is... 1. Have Brent Barry retire 2. Brian Cook traded to Miami. Miami has rights to switch 1st round picks with Houston in 2010 Draft (Lottery Protected) 2009-2010 Houston Rockets Roster C: David Andersen/Chuck Hayes/Pops Mensah Bonsu PF: Luis Scola/Carl Landry/Joey Dorsey SF: Trevor Ariza/Shane Battier/Chase Budinger SG: Tracy McGrady/Rashad McCants/Jermaine Taylor PG: Aaron Brooks/Kyle Lowry Injured: Yao Ming Joey Dorsey and Jermaine Taylor start off in the D-League. Chase Budinger goes down to D-League when T-Mac returns Last roster spot comes down to Joey Dorsey, Will Conroy and Salim Stoudamire.
Sorry mate - you already have 15 roster spots filled. We can only assign 2 players to D-League at a time right? And players with more than 2 years NBA experience can't play there (if on an NBA roster?)
I wish we could have more competition between the bigs. I like mccants and his ability, but it wouldve been nice to have some bigger guys trying to play center also. I am not a fan of hayes, dorsey, or andersen manning the 5 spot.
When will people realize that Brian Cook WILL NOT be waived?!?! Waiving Cook would cost Les Alexander up to $7M. I don't think he's going to want to do that. However, keeping him as the 15th man until February, then dumping him and some cash on a team under the cap would cost Les relatively little. And his "value" as an expiring contract is minimal. Few teams will be interested in Brian Cook's expiring contract in exchange for anything of value. The only way I see Cook been traded (other than an outright salary dump by the Rockets) is if his expiring contract is ABSOLUTELY necessary in order to make salaries match in a large trade. I'm talking about after the teams have exhausted all other options. Brian Cook ain't going anywhere. Not until February, that is.
BimaThug, can't the rockets trade cook for a 2.7m player right? I get what you're saying, do you think Cook can be combined with someone else?
