Finley will absolutely, positively get waived or traded - Cuban won't eat $51 mil in luxury taxes to keep him. link
I don't mind a S&T for Stoudamire, but I don't want to give him too much money. What do you think he's worth? I echo the interest in Patterson. However, I'd also be quite content to land a capable elder guard like Finley or Sprewell for the LLE, but that may not be realistic.
i think we will be able to work out a S&T deal with portland. all they wanted for SAR was the TE (so they arent stuck with contracts they don't want) and a future pick. we can give them ending contracts which they could cut or hold on to 'till the deadline. and i know we don't care about giving away first round picks. wesley and a first should get it done. i doubt that we will get finley. spree however, he might just sign here for the LLE. yao-deke-baker stro-jho-spoon tmac-jb spree-sura-head damon-james-ward-moochie
^ Agreed, I don't think working out a S&T with Portland would be all that difficult. Stoudamire is good as gone, they might as well get a cheap good vet player in DW and possibly a pick. I could also see the Rox taking on one of their unwanted contracts for one of our expiring contracts. Patterson or Miles would make us a deep team at SG/SF, I could see the Rox throwing them Spoon or something expiring for one of those 2 guys. While they're not angels, they can still play well.
To me, that is too much to give up for Stoudemire. If you take away Wesley's lack of height at his position, he is every bit the player Finley is but with an expiring contract. Plus, I don't think throwing away a 1st for a 32 yr. old point guard who we aren't 100% sure he would make THAT big a difference for us in terms of getting to and winning a championship. This is not like Detroit trading for Rasheed Wallace knowing it would automatically give them a GREAT shot at the championship that season. To me, we shouldn't throw that much at someone that is not a clear cut and definite upgrade. Yes, he is a nice player that gives us another dimension we didn't have last season. But really, how much of an upgrade is he over Wesley who we would be trading away? Not a 1st-round pick upgrade IMO.
Yes, if we give up our 2006 1st and Wesley or James for DS, that'd be a bit much for the 32 year old. Maybe the extra 2nd we got from NY...
Not trying to diss on ya smoothie but spree for the LLE is really far fetched. The guy turned down an extension for more money to feed his family! He doesn't care a bout the rings, just more money. Even with the respect he has for JVG, its not gonna give him the money he wants. Just my two cents.
I agree. Wesley is compensation enough for Portland. They'd like to have a shooter and a veteran to tutor the young guys. Wesley gives them that. That's meeting Stoudamire half way on compensation (more than, since he'd have to be paid somewhere near what Wesley makes). More than that, and I think it's on Stoudamire to make the sacrifice instead. How much more than $1.8 million can he really command anyway? He might get half an MLE on the open market.
Taht really depends on what other teams have an MLE to offer. It also depends on how much Spree wants to win a championship now that he is coming off of a big contract. If Spree likes JVG enough to take the pay cut, I would take him for the LLE. I might even SnT him for an expiring contract or two.
Rockets: Stoudamire a sign-and-trade target I saw this article on yahoo, and i thought i would post it....lock if already posted http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=fanball-rocketsstoudamireasi&prov=fanball&type=lgns News Free agent point guard Damon Stoudamire and the Rockets have mutual interest for next season, but Houston would need to engineer a sign-and-trade with Portland in order to pay him enough money, the Houston Chronicle reports. Views Without a sign-and-trade, the Rockets can only offer Stoudamire $2 million, and Damon can earn much more elsewhere, perhaps with the Lakers. The Blazers have already worked out one sign-and-trade deal involving new Nets forward Shareef Abdur-Rahim, so stay tuned.
Patterson is a 3...and I think of JB more as a 2. it would look more like this: Stoud/James/Head Wesley/Barry/Glover/Head Tmac/Patterson/Glover Swift/Howard/LB Yao/Deke I like it!!!
IT HAS BEEN CONFIRMED. Finely will get paid from two contracts if he gets cut. Cuban can't get a reduction of Finley's contract. Are you the guy whose quote became a classic? I forget what your quote was. I would appreciate it if you could refresh my memory
Considering Finley would still be getting paid 50+ million dollar it's not funny at all to think he would sign for the minimum to play for a contender.
Thanos!! Where have you been? We could use more intelligent discussion...welcome back. I'm also getting a little apprehensive that in our excitement over obtaining Swift, we're ready to go all out for a player like Stoudamire. I think he's a solid guard, but only at a reasonable price. I don't think our PG position is in nearly the trouble that some make it out to be. I am a HUGE fan of Gerald Wallace and obviously of Posey, but do you think West would give him up cheaply? I mean, I don't think it's a matter of it hurting Memphis as much as it is helping us...but I bet they could get a LOT more for Posey than we should offer.
Thanks. You echo some of my thoughts. I'm fine with Stoudamire for the LLE, but I don't think he is worth a contract at the MLE level, which is what he will end up getting in a sign and trade for him. If he came along with Rattliff or Miles while we sent our fodder back, it may be worth it, but I'm afraid the Blazers would insist on Derek Anderson or Ruben Patterson, two players I don't want to see included. In a nutshell: if we can send Howard and Wesley for Rattiff and Stoudamire, it might be a good idea. And if we can send James and Wesley for Miles and Stoudamire, I'm up for that too. Don't see it hapenning, though. Regarding our situation at the 2, Posey fits the bill for what I think we need: a defensive minded, tall, young player that can also play the 3. Gerald Wallace and Desmond Mason, as I mentioned earlier, also come to mind. I can bet that West might be willing to listen to offers regarding Posey. He is coming off a very weak year for them, as he wasn't properly utilized by Fratello, not being anywhere as important to them as he was the year before. Besides, they already have Battier and Miller, and they are looking to shed some salary. The same could be said about White Chocolate, he is looking expendable. He is young, and a better playmaker than Stoudamire. I'm sure Van Gundy could get him to play within a system and in control. I'm still hoping for a Posey/Mason/G.Wallace long term solution to the two and hoping that we don't end up paying more than we should to Stoudamire. He could eventually end up being another albatross and is a defensive liability, sorry. Half the people on this board wouldn't even consider him before T-mac started his campaign to sign the guy...
