Thanks for the link. Frankly, I'm not sure why this didn't deserve to be its own thread. All those new quotes from White qualify as news, in my opinion, and it doesn't make much sense for it to be merged into and lost in a bloated 14-page thread.

seriously, are there any non-dunking highlights of james white? i know he can fly and i know he's a freak, but i would like to see what he can do in the other 98% of basketball situations.

I suspect we shall see him in the lineup for 10 -15 minutes a game...

at least he isnt short...(for a SG) and looks to have some hops...

The other 90% is why he wasn't in the NBA. I don't think his shot existed early in his career. If I remember, his ball-handling even wasn't all that great. But..... if you want to see him attempt to touch a 13 foot vertical target as a Spur, that's on youtube. As is him jumping in the air and basically looking down into the basket while slapping it. :D

LOL, good point. Not to many game highlights outside of all the dunking.

He's a 10 day contract guy. Would you expect a 10 day'er to get more PT than that?

I am pumped up. I hope to GOD he can produce some scoring and be an asset to this team.

    Question:

Will he be available for the playoffs?

Yes, presumably, if he doesn't give himself a concussion by hitting his head on the rim during a dunk. I think the better question is: Will we want him?

Toronto isn't a powerhouse -- hopefully we're comfortably ahead in the 4th so we can see this man tonight!

You may be right but the Rockets really need a player like James White on the squad. Battier and Artest can't handle all of the SF minutes. It wears on them and after Battier and Wafer is not a 3. Wafer doesn't bring the kind of D we need at the 3 and forget about Berry. So and athletic 3 we the abilities that White seems to have is exactly what the doctor ordered. Now let's see if he can deliver. Even if it's only a bit. It's an improvement over what we have. I for one am optimistic. But if he doesn't work out well it was at a small price.

I read up on him yesterday, looking at some old draft profiles and some newer articles. He's a 4-year college guy -- 1 year at Florida and 3 at Cincinnati. He was also a badass track guy (at Cincinnati, I think) who did high jump and long jump, which testifies to his athleticism and makes the free-throw-line dunks easier to understand.

The big knock against him seems to be that he's kind of volatile on the court. Used to complain to the refs after every call against him, and get really animated if he thought the call was particularly bad, which was often. Also has the knock that if the ball doesn't come to him regularly on offense, he becomes frustrated, then disinterested and takes to standing around pouting. Sounds vaguely familiar, right? ;)

In James's defense, he says that he's grown up a lot. He says he was asked to play in the CBL in China, but when he got there they didn't have his money. While he was waiting to get it sorted out, he read a book his father gave him that made him see things a lot differently and he realized it was time to grow up and behave himself so he could get another shot at the NBA. He left China without playing there, but came back here to the D-league and had his breakout year. His D-league coach said he was very professional and enthusiastic and that his problems with the refs were much more in check than before (although not completely gone). James says his focus while on the court is much better now and that after he realized he'd figured out the scoring part of things, he began working harder on defense and other parts of the game.

In other words, he may not seem like a Morey guy at first because he's got a rep as a knucklehead. Then again, he *is* a Morey guy because he's cheap and has a tremendous upside. Still, I can't imagine him having much of an impact on this year's team unless Wafer gets injured. Maybe next year, though.

Yes, because there's not much practice time like Feigen stated so how is he going to prove himself ? On the bench like Steve Francis ?

James White is really good on NBA 2K9. I just added him, he can shoot, he's a great finisher, a pretty good defender.. 6'7" 200 Pounds.. He's a solid SG.
