Too many messages to comment on everything here -- but having done lots of new logo work, getting over 50% positive (yes, even "not bad") on people's first blush reaction to a new logo is a pretty good mark. Most people have a tendency to reject any new logo design on first exposure. Most people have a tendency to reject ANYTHING that doesn't match what they already have in their head on first exposure. I'm soaking all the commentary in, but, honestly, the real test is what people think after they've had time to absorb it and internalize it. We spent a lot of time with this. Logos with lots of flashy colors and design tricks and expected things like basketballs in the background always score best on first exposure. They tend to wear out their welcome fast, though. The ones that last tend to be simpler and more iconic. Somebody in another thread pointed out the Yankees "NY", the Cubs "C," the Packers "G" and the Cowboys star. Those are, coincidentally, the most valuable logos in American sports. Lessoned to be learned there. Somebody pointed out that it also works better in context. I wore a red cap with logo in white with a silver dropshadow tonight to the Comets game. Could've vacationed in Hawaii with the money people offered me to buy it. Oh, and if anybody has a five year old who can design like that, have them send in a resume. Tim
Hey Tim Congrats also on getting your face on the news tonight! did you set your recorder to tape the news? -- droxford
I really like the logo. It would loook good on clothes. Simple and clean. I have the feeling that I can wear the T-shirt with the new logo anywhere even outside Houston. I would not do that with the old logo. MUCH.. MUCH better than the flashy old one.
I really thing the Rockets should push the league to let them wear a non-white home Uniform. Thats a sweet idea I think most people would agree. Say a red home uniform and a silver road uniform, nothing wrong with that.
Hey Tim, if you have the time could you post a pic of your hat? Also, just to let you know, I think someone you gave a hat to is trying to sell it on eBay.
That Silver/Red Background looks awesome as a wallpaper! Thanks alot! I just replaced my Reliant Energy photo wallpaper of Yao, me, and my girlfrined that I'd had up for months.
thx, teer. it was about time that i took off my matix reloaded-twins wallpaper. the logo actually looks cool on the wallpaper.
Tim, You should have gotten Rocketeer to do your design work. I bet it would have been a lot cheaper and a million times better. I've yet to see anything he's done that the whole board didn't like.
I would love one of those hats.. my only problem is the flames just looked far too long.. but after seconds of pondering, i figured out that the circle was steam? don't know if anyone has said it.. but the whole thing made more sense when i figured it out..
It took me 2 seconds to absolutely HATE the "new" logo in 1996 ('96, right?) and after 2 minutes yesterday I started to really dig the new one. Tim you Rock! ---------------- Can anybody verfiy--->I read that Les's wife designed the last one is this true?
"We wanted to come up with something that would be timeless," said Tim McDougall, the Rockets' vice president for marketing. "You'd like to get something like the Celtics and the Lakers have -- a timeless look that becomes our look and can stick around for a long, long time." Or at least until Les needs a boost in merchandising revenue.
First impression of the new logo. NOT IMPRESSIVE. Then it started to sink in. And after seeing those Logo Wallpapers (Rocketeer) generated, it's getter better. The logo may have legs. But only if the background has just a little shadow and Silver (good color). I will have to see it on a had or jersey with the team colors before I put down $$$$ for stuff. Frankly, I really didn't like putting the old rockets (teeth) T-shirt/cap on because it was so kiddish (word??) Anyway, I don't think any 5 year old would have came up with the design. It reminded me of the logo rollout of PG&E (utility in S.F.) It costs millions but after a while, it grew on you.
