Yes, that's a good way to put it. Compare his approach to Battier's as described in that NYT piece and its night and day. Battier focuses on how his actions will help the team. McGrady focuses on how his actions will make him look in Sports Center. Given that, it's understandable why he wants to take games off after that embarrassing Milwauke game. I think if he didn't miss that dunk, he could very well still be playing.

he spent a whole day with the media, trying to laugh off his failed dunks (or telling the reporters how hurt he was). do you think yao would do the same thing talking about his dunks blocked by the rim, or about the pain he felt while his foot was already fractured before he even knew it? or battier talking to the media about his air ball 3?

according to leebigez (who claims to know info from mcgrady's "camp"), the most complaint he had was his mates burning his "assists". and you think he doesn't care about his stats?

Not kooky, you just aren't a doctor nor know much about these kinds of injuries. Let's face it, none of us really does.

It's apparent that his knee problems go beyond rehab / physical therapy.

Obviously, Tmac is not Kobe. Adelman should use different way. Of course, Adelman probably doesn't know him well, just like that he didn't know Yao well and let Yao play too many minutes last season. I believe Adelman will deal with this situation better after he knows his players more.

Yes, confidence is a problem, as is mental toughness, and he may actually need microfracture.....I don't know.

The only thing I care about is the Rockets team, and TMac has been hurting the team this year.....they are better off without him.

As for Tmac, I believe he should do whatever is best for HIMSELF, and not consider anything else....even the team.

It is his career here, and his body.....he should circle the wagons and make the smart choice for himself.

i feel like we've had more than enough mcgrady talks already. as i said earlier, either way we're doomed. either way means either he's really not all that injured and is just creating dramas for whatever reason; or he's really injured.

bottom line is, i see this season as an official ending of the yao-mcgrady era. so as a fan, i don't care much about #1 any more until i'm proved wrong. i tell myself to look forward w/o #1 in the mix; and i feel the team and management should do the same.

Wow, after reading all of these posts and the continuous drama on TMAC, I am now of the belief that TMAC will never suit up for the Rockets ever again. He's done.

I said "not that much"! No player doesn't care his stats completely.

I think if the rockets won that game, he wouldn't talk about that dunk that much either. He might just want to use that dunk as an example to explain he is not 100% yet.

All I remember about JVG is he keeping praising Tmac no matter what happened because he knows exactly what Tmac needs. It is Yao who took most blames from JVG, just like now.

    JVG bench Tmac? You kidding?

Anyone know which doctor Tmac is seeing for this 2nd opinion?

    Is it Andrews again?

I very much doubt we ever see Tracy in a Rockets uniform ever again. I am certain he needs the surgery which puts him out a year, if he makes it back at all. By the time he gets back, this time next year, he is a super valuable expiring contract.

The only feasable scenario I see is if he shuts it down till the playoffs, but I dont think that helps us at all.

Yes, did anything from that story even change from the last time this was said?

I think McGrady's also scared about the trade deadline. Too much uncertainties in his mind's got him all timid to do anything.

Just confusing...McGrady got a simple knee procedure 9 months ago and should have been good to go by December according to world renowned physicians. There hasnt been any improvement in the knee but there's been no reported worsening either. Yet he's still complaining about pain, just days after saying its there wasnt much pain its just a confidence in the knee thing. Now there's a possibly of microfracture...

Gilbert Arenas has hosed the Wizards out of more money than McGrady has for the Rockets due to injury. But Arenas simply couldnt come back, had some setbacks and went back on the shelf. It happens, sucks for everyone but it has to be accepted. Why cant McGrady do the same darn thing. Just go on the shelf for a while, rehab and recuperate and leave the team, front office and fans alone until he's truly ready to play.

The mid-season rehab hasn't helped. He's gotten mulitple doctors' opinions that reveal nothing. His MRI came back negative. Evidently no one can figure out what's wrong w/ his knee or how to fix it. What other solution is there?

Both sides should end this charade. Just have Tmac shut it down. Until some new specialist can diagnose and cure his knee, this is just going around in circles. The sporadic participation and effort is not helping the team or Tmac. I truly believe everyone is better off if he shuts it down.

There's only 2 months left in the season. Let this team get some semblance of normalcy. It sounds like it would take a miracle for Tmac to fully recover from this anytime soon anyways.

Because if the doctors can't find anything wrong with his knee then insurance won't pick up the bill for his salary. So in actuality he's screwing the Rockets over because they can't file insurance on him and he won't play so they are basically being held hostage by Tracy. If he can find a doctor to say he is in fact injured then he can sit and get paid. But I really think he is just doing this so it hurts his chances of being traded. If Artest is traded you watch him come back and be as productive as he was last year. He's a sick f***.

T-Mac needs to retire. So tired about this getting second, third opinion bull$hit. He's pulling, going to different doctor's, he knows his own state of body better than anyone, who are we kidding. the dude is making 20 mil next year, rehab or not. just wish he could have the decency to do whats best for organization, instead of throwing his teammates and fans under the bus.
