If Johnson has/had anything truly special to offer he would still be playing for the Phoenix Suns . I see another smoke screen!!!
Ridiculous post of the night: S&T for Johnson, and then swap Johnson in an S&T for Bosh? Brooks / Lowry Budinger / Taylor Ariza / Battier Bosh / Scola Yao / Patterson / Hill
Why do you think he's eager to go to New York and play for his former Phoenix Sun coach? The Knicks would be building Phoenix East if they settle for JJ and Amare this summer.
JJ is the most overrated "star" in the league. If he's better than K-mart, its because he wont be as much as a defensive liability, but we certainly lose scoring efficiency trading Kmart for him.
I'm not sold on Johnson over Martin. Martin is 2 years younger and Johnson performed horribly in the Orlando series. In 46 games Martin got to the free throw line 340 times In 76 games Johnson got to the free throw line 269 times Martin, Yao and Brooks ought to be enough talent for a free agent to consider s&t with the Rockets.
Theoretically we could get Bosh and JJ for a package of Ariza, Battier, Jefferies, Anderson, Hill, Budinger, Patterson and draft picks. This would be our lineup Yao/Hayes Bosh/Scola JJ/MLE Martin/Taylor Brooks/Lowry
That's giving up too much. If Bosh says no to Houston then plan B needs to be go with what you got. Hope Hill/Patterson learn quickly and make significant contributions.
please not joe johnson! i'd take kevin martin over him anyways. kevin averages the same points, but with better shooting percentages, less shots, and more free throws. if you're going to do a sign & trade for joe johnson at max money, you might as well go for lebron. rockets sign & trade for lebron james: aaron brooks trevor ariza jared jeffries (expiring contract) 2011 first round pick new york's 2012 first round pick 2012 second round pick $3 million cash rockets sign & trade for chris bosh: luis scola jordan hill shane battier (expiring contract) rights to swap 2011 first round picks with new york 2011 second round pick 2012 first round pick $3 million cash bring over sergio llull from spain (we have his draft rights) use part of or all of the midlevel exception on brad miller afterwards, we'd have a lineup of: PG - kyle lowry, sergio llull SG - kevin martin, jermaine taylor, mike harris SF - lebron james, chase budinger, alexander johnson PF - chris bosh, patrick patterson, chuck hayes C - yao ming, brad miller, david andersen that's a pretty damn good team. how this could happen: this team might not have quite as strong of a starting 5 versus if lebron and bosh went to chicago, but it's close. it's also deeper than any team that chicago, miami, or new york could put together since they've gutted their teams in order to clear cap space (llull and patterson would be very experienced as far as rookies go). if lebron and bosh do a sign & trade instead of outright signing with a new team, then they'd earn around $30 million more doing so. additionally, there is no state tax in houston, so they'd end up saving a lot of money that way. plus with the "yao ming effect", they'd end up with a lot more fans and a lot more endorsements from china. resulting in even more money and more worldwide appeal. so from a financial and competitive standpoint, a sign & trade to the rockets makes a lot of sense for lebron and bosh (assuming both go together). financially, they’d probably make more with the rockets than with any other team in the league. so, if the cavs and the raptors are convinced that lebron and bosh are going to sign with other teams, then doing a sign & trade at least gets them back something. if they are going to do a sign & trade, then the rockets have a lot of pieces to make this happen. yes, some teams could offer more (like if the lakers offered bynum for bosh) -- but if lebron and bosh forced a sign & trade specifically to houston, the cavs and raptors would still get a decent return.
How is that giving up too much. We would have 5 all-stars/borderline all-stars with Brooks being the weakest link.
I see what your saying and it makes sense, but once again, sometimes grit, heart, and determination isn't enough. It's VERY important, but it it alone won't win you a championship. Two big time talents like Bosh and JJ, however, will. The chemistry would come eventually, and as far as Bosh goes, I think the heart's there. But let's not get carried away people, not gonna happen in the first place.
They do the same thing with the Men's national Basketball team and it doesn't always pan out. You need role players who know what their roles are. Who aren't afraid to do the dirty work. You don't need 5 all-stars to win a championship. IMO, there aren't enough shots to keep them all happy.
hmmm ... I smell another one of those diversionary leaked information of the Rockets while we target another player ... not named Bosh or Johnson
Never realized how big JJ is. At 6'7 240 he is bigger than most small forwards. What if we forget bosh and go after just JJ? We can trade away Jeffries, battier picks and one of our young studs for him, then resign scola, lowry. I think Joe Johnson would be good with ab too since he is a good passer. AB/lowry Martin/ Johnson Johnson/Ariza Scola/Patterson Yao/hill That's a solid starting five, with everyone capable of scoring. In this scenario if we can keep hill and Patterson, we would be set up front. That would mean we would probably have to give up cbud, but with ariza still with us we can probably afford that.
This. The Rockets are fairly tight-lipped irt to potential trades. They could be floating these rumors all the while targeting other players.
This. Plus, we have our MLE! Plus, AB, Lowry, Patterson and Hill getting better with experience. That better be enough, because we will have shot our wad.
