I don't know how this is really going to work out. Having Yao, Bosh, and Joe Johnson (3 max deals). Then you still has Scola, have to pay Brooks and Lowry. We will be way over salary cap every year.

If Joe Johnson is heading to Houston, then Kevin Martin is definitely in the sign and trade deal that will send him to Atlanta.

    Brooks/Lowry
    Joe Johnson/Chase Budinger/Jermaine Taylor
    Ariza/Patterson?/Budinger
    Scola/Patterson/Chuck Hayes
    Yao/Brad Miller?/Chuck Hayes

I love Martin & his offensive game.

However, JJ is the better all-around player and he might not cost us too much more per yr than what we're paying Martin.

If this is true then Morey and Co. are going all in. Gotta respect it. If they feel Bosh is the guy who will put them over the top, then y not go all in?

I'm not a big JJ fan, and would prefer Martin at $11 mil a year vs JJ at max or near max money. But if he is to Bosh as Ray Allen was to KG, then I'm all for it.

Sure, that's a lot of big checks Les has to throw around. But keep in mind that Rockets competing for a championship, with the Yao effect, likely generates more revenue than what a normal team would.

Kevin Martin's salary the next three seasons: $10.6M, $11.5M and $12.4M

The salary Joe Johnson will command/demand: $16.8M, $18.6M and $20.5M . . . and then $22.7M and $25.1M the next two years after that (when he'll be 34).

Uh . . . he may be an upgrade (overall) over Kevin Martin, but not nearly enough of one to justify that extra salary.

If Chris Bosh is so enamored with "joining a buddy" on an under-the-cap team with no depth and cannot see that playing with Yao Ming, Kevin Martin and a ton of young talent may be in his best interests, then I sort of feel sorry for him.

But "no, thanks" on Johnson. I'd rather have Martin at his salary.

Larry Coon says the Bulls are about $4 million away from being able to sign 2 players to max deals, assuming they can lose James Johnson.

I dont understand why Rockets would allow this article to be written,.Its gets our hopes up. If we dont get JJ or Bosh, and we "stand pat" many fans will be wondering how did we go from jj+bosh to nothing? Bad PR move imo. Its setting everyone up for a huge letdown.

Yes, too many things about Daryl Morey wanting to overpay Joe the Johnson and giving up Kevin Martin in the process doesn't make sense (and yes, Johnson will be overpaid with this many teams with cap room).

My guess is there is an ulterior motive for releasing this info to the papers now. Perhaps to increase the market on Johnson to make sure he gets overpaid by some other team. Perhaps to throw somebody off Morey's senet trail.

I'm not interested in either of these guys (Bosh & Johnson).

They have consistently underachieved in the Eastern Conference.

What our team lacks in experience and talent, we make more for in teamwork, grit, and determination.

We have talented, young players with considerable upside and great character. Assuming they continue to work hard and improve their game, we could have a very competitive team for years.

When considering the past achievements of Bosh & Johnson, in addition to the hefty contacts/salaries they will require, I'm just not that excited by the proposition of acquiring these guys - especially when considering the possible loss of Hill, Budinger, Patterson, Brooks, & Martin (etc).

The more I think about this article, the more it feels like a smoke screen using Feigen as puppets once again.

    Resign Scola
    Resign Lowry

    Forget this fantasy BB stuff.

Build your team with the best players possible and let these big headed money hungry players go play on a team with a bunch of scrubs because the teams had to cut everyone to sign them.

I'll take our depth. Our team is deep and if they play team ball with Yao back healthy... good things can happen.

Judging from those numbers, Johnson would be ~10 mil overpaid in his last two years (comparing to a similar talent in Manu). That's a lot of Les' money, but if Joe Johnson is the difference between Bosh coming here or going to the Bulls then I obviously deal Kevin Martin for a player I consider at least his equal. Otherwise, I'd also rather have Martin.

Thing is, acquiring Joe might not require Morey to trade Martin as I laid out earlier. It would just cost a ton of someone else's money.

We need a front-court player, plain and simple. Joe Johnson would be nice, but we already have guys who fit that role.

I'll take Bosh, Amare, Brad Miller or some other decent front-court players to help out Yao.

JJ is a good defender, he could play along side Martin at the three.

    +1

I'm all for shaking things up to get a stud but moving $11m Martin for max$ed Johnson in the hopes of getting Bosh is not a positive. The only way we are getting Bosh is if we get Wade or Lebron or both - he's a tag along to one of those 2.

Johnson is simply better than Martin, especially at the defensive end.

I'd trade Martin, Battier, and a 1st rounder for Johnson, and then sign & trade Scola along with Jeffries and another 1st rounder for Bosh.

    PG: Brooks/Lowry
    SG: Johnson/Taylor
    SF: Ariza/Budinger
    PF: Bosh/Patterson
    C: Yao/Hill

That team is better than the Lakers. Brooks > Fisher, Bosh > Gasol, and Yao > Bynum.

It's like one of those crime movie/TV things... the crime scene report just doesn't fit the modus operandi of our serial killer.
