i don't see why he wouldn't agree to it. It's a sign and trade so he gets the most money possible and he gets to play with Bosh and Yao. Healthy Yao, Bosh, and Joe Johnson would be tough to beat. I'll admit I've never been the biggest Brooks fan but if we can get a two guard like JJ that can pass the ball I feel like AB's biggest flaw, outside of man to man defense, is greatly reduced. I think the situation would be a complete win for JJ. He would be a part of the best starting five in basketball.

I'm sorry, but you didn't read either my post, nor DD's post, to which I was responding. DD seemed to be saying that Chicago would get a massive trade exception. I said nothing about Toronto, and almost nothing about TPEs. All I said about TPEs was, "Anyhow, they (Chicago) will not end up with a huge TPE."

I could be wrong in my thinking. From that article yesterday, I saw it as they were going to pursue Johnson to help pursue Bosh, as he'd have an All-Star wing coming also with him.

Isnt that what that sounds like? Again, I could be wrong. Maybe they pursue Johnson w/o Bosh(or still pursue him if they lose out on Bosh) or maybe they dont. Just as you find it strange or weird about as you put it "why would Johnson agree to sign with the Rockets in that situation?", I'd find it weird for them to pursue Johnson w/o a guy like Bosh, Stoudemire, or another big name coming in. You can ask this question w/ or w/o Bosh and I see both sides: why would they pursue Johnson when they have Martin? My apologies if it sounds confusing or doesn't really make sense. I'll try to explain it better if it doesn't.

We are going to pursue Johnson as a fallback if Bosh doesn't want to be here. We can do a S&T with Atlanta, putting pressure on ATL that they could lose Johnson for nothing to NY, give them expirings and one first round draft pick, not Kevin Martin. Johnson would be brought in to play the 3 alongside Brooks and Martin.

Here's How I compare Johnson vs Martin

Johnson Strengths over Martin: Stronger and more physical. More durable. Creates shots (better passer / ball handler). Slightly better rebounder. Has shot the ball better the last few seasons.

Martin Strengths over Johnson: Gets to the free throw line a lot more (draws more fouls). Younger. Better career shooter.

I think their shooting is a wash since Martin has been injured it has hurt his percentages.

It's really close to be honest. It comes down to what fits better with our team and offense. And I think, we need guys who can pass and create shots desperately - and therefore I give JJ the edge over Martin. Plus Martin is so injury prone that I think JJ is a safer bet from that angle.

I wouldn't pay JJ more than Martin, and wouldn't sign him to 6 years either. Maybe 5 max. maybe.

Translation: "I don't want the Rockets to pursue Joe Johnson."

There's no way in hell that Johnson agrees to sign for what Martin makes ($10.6M next season, then $11.5M, then $12.4M). JJ is going to want to get PAID this summer and will likely start at a salary far in excess of the final year of Martin's contract.

OF COURSE we are going to make a run for those guys. which team with cap space or assets wouldn't?

to be realistic, we have a very low chance of signing or trading for those guys.

basically, bosh will go wherever lebron goes. and lebron isn't coming here unfortunately.

if we can get joe johnson, that's a great catch if yao returns 75% healthy.

While I marvel at the idea of bringing in two guys like Bosh and Johnson... they would take a lot of key pieces to bring in. I suppose if the Rockets could keep AB, Lowry, and Yao, it would possibly be worth it.... it would be highly unlikely, but i guess you never really know.

It seems to me that the best thing that can happen for us is Lebron resigning in Cleveland. They do not have cap space nor the assets to sign and trade for another free agent. That will force the rest of the free agent class to take a strong look and s&t. None of the teams with cap space will be able to offer max money and wins the way we can.
