Battier is our rock. He's the epitome of "Franchise Player." You see how our defense is when he's hurt or out of the game.
I made this post in the other thread, and I'm gonna put it here to as it deals with how Miller has done against centers in our division. I was a little bored, so I looked up Miller's stats against some of our division's centers. Hornets: Emeka Okafor Both Miller and Okafor have averaged 30 mpg, and in those minutes, Miller has outscored Okafor by 4 points per game. Miller also manages to hold Okafor to a low shooting percentage while shooting a high percentage himself. Analysis: Rockets advantage, while Okafor does outrebound Miller, Miller shoots a higher percentage and puts up more ppg. http://www.basketball-reference.com...01&p2=okafoem01 Grizzlies: Marc Gasol In a small portion of games, Gasol has outscored Miller, putting up a higher shooting percentage as well. Miller has managed to outrebound Gasol, but there isn't enough of a sample size to compare. Analysis: Haven't met on enough occasions to see who has the advantage, not I like I actually know anyway. http://www.basketball-reference.com...01&p2=gasolma01 Spurs: Tim Duncan (I know he's considered a 4 but the Mavs used him at 5 quite a bit) As expected, Duncan dominates Miller putting up 20 ppg, shooting a higher percentage, and outrebounding Miller. Brad wouldn't be playing against him too much fortunately. Analysis: Spurs advantage by a landslide. One of the most dominant players in NBA history should be overpowering guys like Miller. Doesn't mean Miller wouldn't be serviceable though. http://www.basketball-reference.com...01&p2=duncati01 Mavs: Brendan Haywood While Miller puts up more points per game, Haywood gets the better of him in rebounding and fg%, all while managing Miller to only 45% (not bad but not as good as Haywood's 52%) Analysis: Mavs advantage, but not by much. Haywood outrebounds and shoots a better percentage than Miller, out weighing the fact that Miller puts up more points per game by a tiny bit. http://www.basketball-reference.com...01&p2=haywobr01 While these stats may mean little to nothing, it's still interesting to see how Miller plays when going up against the same guys he would face most were he to become a Rocket, or at least it is to me. Overall, I think he would be a decent and serviceable backup to Yao. If you want to compare in more details, just click the links below each opponent and see for yourself.
if they are planning to sign Brad Miller, hopefully they would do it as soon as possible before another team gets him. he would be a great backup for Yao. he can help us off the bench and support Yao.
He still could, adding Miller does not mean Andersen is not back with the team. There are enough roster spots for them both as of now. I was just mentioning that Andersen does not offer anything more than what Miller would offer. Andersen is a little bit better 3 point shooter than Miller, but both can hit the shot pretty well for a big man.
I just hope we dont hear something like the Jazz sign Miller or Heat sign Brad miller. that would make me
My bad on the links. Miller vs. Duncan: http://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/h2h_finder.cgi?request=1&p1=millebr01&p2=duncati01 Miller vs. Haywood: http://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/h2h_finder.cgi?request=1&p1=millebr01&p2=haywobr01 Miller vs. Marc Gasol: http://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/h2h_finder.cgi?request=1&p1=millebr01&p2=gasolma01 Miller vs. Okafor: http://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/h2h_finder.cgi?request=1&p1=millebr01&p2=okafoem01 These should work. And to answer your question, no, these are his career stats in games against the opposing big man.
we still have MLE. am i right. signing own restricted free agent won't cost us any money from those exceptions.
That's what I thought! Thanks for fixing the links. Heck, Miller uncorks a terrific game every once in a while (frequently against the Rockets), still, so who knows what he'd do for us in limited minutes? I think we're going to find out.
I have to give you credit for the good research you've put in, but at the end of the day Brad Miller is now all but a washed-up veteran that we can expect nothing more than a 15 min around-par veteran performance each night. Comparing stats when Miller was at his prime is like comparing Allen Iverson to Kobe Bryant with stats from 10 years ago...it doesn't say much about the current state of things does it(which is what matters)?
Looking more and more like it. Would be a good acquisition in my opinion. In Adelman's familiar system, who knows how Miller would perform. Why not find out?
Very true, I probably should've just put up his averages for the last two seasons against those other centers. Shoot, I have a good amount of time here so I'll do it. Miller vs. Duncan Miller: 7 ppg, 5.7 rpg, .7 bpg, 48% from field Duncan: 18.8 ppg, 9.4 rpg, 2.4 bpg, 60% As expected, Duncan dominates. Miller vs. Haywood Miller: 10.3 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 1 bpg, 47% Haywood: 9 ppg, 9.6 rpg, 2 bpg, 41% Miller vs. Marc Gasol Miller: 10 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 0 bpg, 53% Gasol: 14 ppg, 4 rpg, 1.5 bpg, 60% Miller vs. Okafor Miller: 12.5 ppg, 8.3 rpg, 1.1 bpg, 48% Okafor: 10.5 ppg, 11.5 rpg, 1.6 bpg, 38% Well, here they are. Miller's stats against our division's centers in the last two seasons. Some interesting stats in there.
Kudos. Not bad at all considering what we'd use Miller for, and you have to think that playing for Adelman will help a lot (or at least some). It certainly helped his game when he played against him!
I would love to have Brad Miller on this team. He is a tougher, better shooter and a better defending version of David Anderson. Imagine Miller playing next to Yao! Open jumpers all day!
Glad to do it. If he can peform on the same basis as those averages for 15-20 minutes per game, then I have no problem at all signing him. Seems like he would be a reliable backup.
One deal don't effect the other. They probaly offered him the midlevel exception. Scola deal can be match no matter how high it is. Expect the Rockets to go as high as 4 years 38 million.
