i'd sign flip murray in a heartbeat. he is cheap, can shoot, and dribble-drive....would fit in perfectly on this team.

i'm not 100% sure, but i believe flip is undersized at the 2...and is most certainly not a 1, even in this offense. And I think we wantd to avoid the undersized 2's to stop getting abused on the defensive end? At least that was the general consensus earlier (which I'm on board with, aside from Wesley and Head off the bench)

he could run the point and lead this team to a championship... but i'm not sure i like the release on his shot. he could get blocked by jason kidd and maybe shaq.. a lot of questions that can't be answered makes that a tough pick.

Another possibility is to trade down to get D'Brickashaw Ferguson and an extra late first round pick. With his excellent blockings Ferguson might be our answer to the penetration of the guards which put Yao in foul troubles.

the rockets dont need much tinkering, they need another point guard preferably one that can shoot, and then they need other guys that can shoot, and thats pretty much all they need, to many times this season our shooters didnt punnish the double team by clanking there wide open shots that yao and tmac provide, and the rockets were the worst shooting team in the league, and they ranked 27th in 3pt shooting, so the problems are obvious, rockets were ranked 29th in scoring aswell, which goes back to not making shots, and alot of this can be attributed to jvg's style of play which gets pretty predictable for other teams to read.
I dunno why people are looking to bring over V.span he doesnt seem to be that special sure he shot 60% for 2 balls, but his worry stat is 3 asisits a game, that doesnt sound like a very good point guard to me and he gets 2.6 turn overs for those 3 assists, so forget about that guy he'd probably be to slow against guards in the nba aswell, so enough of this v.span stuff.
Plus rafer wont be so bad when he has a healthy team to pass to, i'd expect him to average nearly 10 asisits a game as he knows how to get it to yao

Check out this thread. Euro assists are different than NBA assists.

Forget the MLE. All we're going to get is another Stromile Swift-BUST type player. I say use it for Spanoulis (who is playing for a contract from his stats) and the draft. We've got two decent picks. Both work trading for. I wouldn't wan't to see us screwed like with Swift. we got what we paid for though.

So what if Spanoulis is the "Stromile Swift-BUST" type player?

    Flip is not cheap.

V-Span might play for us in Summer League according to Dawson, but I doubt he'd give up the chance to win it all for Panathinaikos. They're getting a good NBA player apparently.

I was thinking more along the lines of Mario Williams. He could be that mean rugged "Enforcer" we've been wanting to put next to Yao. At 6'7 295 hes got all the tools to do it.

What games have you been watching? The complete opposite is true, as Alston hardly ever passes the ball to Yao Ming in a scoring position.

At least the scouts are able to evaluate him as a player. In the case of Swift his evaluation was reduced to the fact that he could dunk over Yao Ming. Swift was never evaluated as a player playing his role in a game. Because if he was then the Scouts simply lied or they had something on CD!!!
As Spanoulis is going to play in the Summer Leagues our Management will get every chance to see if he can play the NBA Game.

The Rockets team that plays home games at the Toyota Center in Houston and played 82 games of the 2005-2006 season is the team I am talking about. I saw 81 of these games and that team had a disgusting season and IMHO needs almost a complete make over, over the next two years.-
    A LOT OF TINKERING! :p

ok - i'm confused about our spending ability.

i understand that we have our MLE, which will be around $5.5 million, and which we can split however we want amount X number of ppl.

however, if we have rookies, those rookies will be afforded contracts that have no affect on that MLE. so theoretically if we had like 4 or 5 rookies, we could add at least five more contracts, regardless of our cap status?

what if les doesn't mind overspending? how do you get to a point where you don't care how over the cap you are, and you're just spending freely, like the Knicks?

and why wouldn't V-Span's contract count as a rookie contract, instead of counting towards our MLE?

i like the idea of getting cassell back.
he solves all of these problems:

    1. he can shoot
    2. he can pass
    3. he is a leader
    4. he has won championships
    5. the fans will welcome him

this depends on how far the clippers go in the playoffs, if they make it past the 2nd round. sam will be the hot on the market. he'll finally get the contract that he's seeking! :)

I think alot of you expect to much when it comes to changes and are unrealistic. Sure the rockets could do with a new pf a new pg a new sg, but we arent going to do much better then what we got unless we pull a draft miracle, sure we could overhaul the team for a 3rd straight year, but thats not exactly healthy for the team and it means a whole bunch of new players that have to learn the jvg system, and it will most likely put off free agents wanting to come to the rockets.
but alot of that bad play come to not making shots, if yao is doubled and he passes it out to the perimeter and that guy misses that open shot continually, then obviously its going to look bad

lets look at the guys that are taking those open shots

rafer alston fg: .379 3pt: .327 should stick to play making
keith bogans fg: .395 3pt .314 probably should stick to hustle play
luther head fg: .403 3pt: .361 he'll be better next season
david wesley fg: .403 3pt: .365 he's over rated even heads stats show that
tracy mcgrady fg: .406 3pt: .312 injuries? confidence? jvg's style? who knows

now how can you win games with guys shooting like that

all I'm tryin to say is you get some guys that can make there shots the dynamic of the team is going to look alot different and the short falls at other positions will not look so bad

    Two things:

    1. 2nd round picks aren't locked into a set pay scale like first round picks. They can make as little as the rookie minimum or as much as the max depending on how much cap space the team has. But they also aren't entitled to any guaranteed money, so it's a bit of a trade off.

    2. Since Span is presumably making good money over in Europe already, he's not going to come over to the NBA unless the Rockets make it worth his while. It's pretty basic business sense.
