Not to be a "hay-ta," but Rudy and the coaching staff and the players better stick by the system, even if it takes awhile to catch on. Granted, there will still be some iso's and such, we know that, but I don't want to fall back to old lazy habits should we be losing games if the motion offense doesn't click right away. That said, the possibilities are exciting, and I can't wait to see the players in action, looking like they're actually being coached.
FYI, this is not a newsgroup, so any defense of what you say happens in newsgroups won't necessarily fly here.
Ok, since you didn't get the point, let me be more blunt. You called Rudy T a lazy drunk. Those are fighting words. Try not to act so shocked when a true Rockets fan responds to them.
I'm just glad that everyone is back and healthy enough to run plays other than ISO's 50% of the time. It gets kinda boring too watch.
heypartner, Yeah I agree that a 100% Princeton offense will not work due to shot clock etc. But you have to admit ANY motion type offense will be a vast improvement to the iso game. My hope is that they do incorporate a lot of the ball movement that the typical Princeton team had with lots of passes, cuts, etc whether that's a UCLA cut game or the Zipper offense or whatever. Oh and I do remember a certain UCLA team being beaten by the Princeton offense a few years back, so maybe a Princeton offense isn't all bad compared to a UCLA one
Pat yourself on the back then...that's what you were saying to me. I would not wish that on anyone. It makes you grow up before your time! By the way, I did not make a big deal about this in my original post. Also, it wasn't a "being rude" or a "shot." It was a *cause of effect* in my orignal post. If you could hear the tone of voice, or context you would understand the point. There so much that gets lost in text rather than in voice.
That's the one thing that seems different for the Kings. They seem to run the high post a lot with Webber and Vlade. Something that the Rockets can use as well with Yao. But not sure if Cato could run the high post, much less pass the ball. But, over-all I see good things ahead. Strange, but this must have been a real big issue in Houston local TV/Radio. I didn't think that they would listen to the fans complaints so well.
Makes you understand why soooo many people are NOT buying tickets/renewals this year.... I can't believe it, though. I thought for sure that Yao would bring some fan back. Well, like I said a few months ago...the fans that only watch the Rockets when they are winning will come back. The other fans never left.
The new offense should look similar to the Kings offense. Yao should be able to do some of the same type of things Vlade does right from the start. Yao = point-center.
As much as we all slam Cato, he migth actually "flourish" in this type of offense. When his head is in the game, he does a good job of cutting to the basket for those easy dunks he pads his scoring average with.
Boki seems to like the motion offense: http://www.nba.com/rockets/news/Bostjan_Nachbars_Rookie_Diar-54435-34.html Bostjan Nachbar's Rookie Diary (Day Three: October 3) Well, I hit 14 shots in a row during a drill today. My body’s getting back in shape, so I should start doing that. I still need to work on my shot, but it’s getting better day by day. This new motion offense we’re running is like something I have seen before over in Europe. Now, when you get some great athletes like we have, it’s really going to be good. It spreads the floor and lets people cut in and lots of screens and stuff. It’s going to help us a lot. Now, the real benefit won’t really show up until we use it during games. It does get everyone involved in the offense, though. It gets all five guys involved in the offense, which is good. If you want to have a successful offense and score points you need to have five players that can be a threat and not just one or two. I really like this coaching staff. They’re a little different than European coaches. Last year, my coach was Mike D’Antoni, who’s now an assistant with the Phoenix Suns. He was a little different than most European coaches. In Europe, I think most coaches are more strict. I’m not saying Rudy’s not a hard worker or anything like that, it’s just that most European coaches are more serious. Rudy’s more open and more friendly. He makes it more fun. The game itself is more fun over here. More nice plays and more dunks and stuff like that. Talk to you tomorrow.
The game itself is more fun over here. More nice plays and more dunks and stuff like that. Sounds like a typical street-ball player in American...all flash and dunks and having fun rather than wanting to be "serious." damn kids.
i'm glad you brought that up, grummy. i don't believe the league "changed the rules because of the rockets" either. first of all, like you said, we haven't even been to the playoffs using that boring ass style. second of all, if the league was trying to punish the rockets for using the iso so much, why would they reward rudy t by making him an OLYMPIC coach?
Point one. i don't think the rule change was just at the Rockets, but a trend towards more one on one play than team effort. I do believe the Rockets are a microcosism of this trend. Point two. I thought it was USA Basketball that made the decision on Rudy. i could easily be wrong.
I've never been to a game. I cant afford it, but I am one of the fans that never gives up. Ive been watching them on TV for about 10 years and I sat through every game as painful as it was last season!
Two rookies that hit every shot they take? Boki is still working on his shot? Cuttino and Steve battling? Cato happy and working hard. KT and EG looking good/ What's next? Rice at a titty bar? DOH!
