Uh, he is one of the top centers in NBA history.

Also, who cares where he's from?

Indeed. I also happen to know there are several big man candidates ahead of him (none of that bad English crap please). Yet we choose Ewing. And no, I did not take into consideration where he's from.

Have we hired him yet? Who else is ahead of him that has coaching experience (albeit, only one year).

As far as where he's from, I wasn't referring to you.

Ewing will work, hes one of the best centers ever. He played in New York so he has a small idea on what kind of pressure Yao has on him with the U.S and China media. I like Ewing he will work out. Who cares where he plays he can help the rockets. He knows basketball.

Listening to Ewing talk, I am unimpressed with his eloquence. Listening to what Ewing has to say, I am unimpressed with his message. Reviewing his coaching, I am unimpressed with the results of his work thus far. Lastly, I can never forgive him for being a Knickerbocker.

I don't think there's any evidence that Ewing had a significant impact on the play of the big men in Washington. However, I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt- seems like there's a total lack of winning attitude in Washington, going back to WAY before his time there. I doubt anyone could have had much more success with that cast. Plus, maybe Van Gundy will be keeping an eye on him here.

And about him being a Knick-- who cares? Remember, we BEAT those guys to get the first championship. It's not like he cost us anything as a Knick. In fact, I'm glad he was a Knick- he was a great center, and made Hakeem look that much better for schooling him.

How freaking hard would it be to talk to Moses Malone, Hakeem, or even Kareem. Ewing is way better than Larry Smith, but come on...

The operative question is how will 'the big man coach' interact with 'the big men' and with the coaching staff.

If Ewing gets the attention of Yao (and EG?!) , and the comfort level of JVG, then so be it.

Mo only wanted to part time tutor and Hakeem is still under contract with Toronto. Kareem has apparently blown his chances to work as a coach, he is looking for a college head gig mostly. His personality of youth is biting his middle aged self in the butt.

Im not gonna stop being a Rockets fan if Ewing is our assistant coach, but I'm gonna freaking hate it so damn much. It's too much of a reminder of the damn 94' Knicks with Gundy AND Ewing. Our team is the Houston Rockets not the New York Knicks!

Mark me down for the "NO EWING LIST" but my real reason was to defend Kwame and more importantly the situation he was in with Jordan. MJ wasd not there to help anyone the past two years. He was there to make more money and drag two more years of ESPN kissing his majesties butt. MY guess is the 18 year old girls in the clubs didn't know who he was anymore and in order to bag them he figured the best way was to get back on the court. Kwame Brown for all his downfalls has more to blame on MJ than he has to thank him for. MJ is a selfish a-hole and maybe the only people who benefitted is the Wiz ownership and TNT although I never watched the old man play. MJ in his prime was special but he did more to hurt Kwame Brown than to help him and he did it because HE did not want to be looked upon as a failure in that draft. What a punk.

Any help for Yao is welcome. Ewing , for all the haters may not have been as good as Hakeem, but he was a very good center in the league. He was a hard worker, a good defender and a reliable source for their offense for yrs. His jump hook was very good and he can help Ming and Eddie Griffin. I think people aremissing the point about Ewing coming to help the Rockets.

As good as Hakeem was, I don't think he wanted to be a fulltime coach for the Rockets. If guys like Ewing,Elie and people like that really want to coach, why not? I'm sure Ewing can help teach our big players more about posting up,setting picks, rebounding and pivots better than Larry Smith.

Why is everyone trippin on Ewing being an assistant? Everyone saying, hey why not Moses or Hakeem? Well, maybe both of those guys aren't interested in coaching the Rox so why even consider them. The only guy that I have seen step up and want the job is Elie and there is a great chance he may become one. Look JVG was hired to coach our team and with that he has the right to choose whoever he wants on his staff and if Ewing wants to be here and JVG thinks he can help our big guys, then so be it. Just as long as we win, that's all that matters!

Kareem wants the job and is a much better choice. Kareem isn't a frickin' moron with frickin' fake glasses. Ewing is absolutely horrible and I'm starting to think Jeff is too. Burn in hell, Knik loser.

    I will always hate you.

So what if JVG brings in John Stockton to coach point guards? It would be tantamount to Ewing coaching the big men.

That would be cool. I think Stockton is a great point guard.
I think our big men and point guards should be benefit from learning from these experienced players.

It does not matter who they played for before. Knowledge is knowledge. If it is a good knowledge why it is matter who it is from.

Basketball players, like students, should be eager/able to learn from every coaches or experienced players.
If they become rocket coaches then they are the rockets.

John Stockton is undoubtedly the best point guard in the history of the NBA. However, he is a career Jazzer, an attribute that automatically makes him anathema to Houston fans. Ewing is on a par to that.
