This team is full of inconsistent unathletic excuses as to why they always play like crap.

Yes they should get rid of some of this so called talent, because they're not going to win a ring with these players in Yao and Tracy's good years.

The overall philosophy in Houston is screwed up. No PF then, still not one now. Who in the west plays a 6'6 PF and expects to win a ring?

Rafer sucked then, and he sucks now, i'd just trade him for a pick if i could. At this rate he's nothing more than a salary liability and he doesn't do enough of anything on the court to warrant minutes.

    Regardless of what you say...

I say trade shane and his constant shooting slumps, his overrated defense, and the dukie hype.

Regardless how you feel about my uncle tom comment... yes some of you may have been "offended" but i could give 2 *****s and a rafer floater.

We need a tough guy on the floor... shane will never be it, t-mac since he got "hosed" by bobby jackson isnt it... yao is too damned friendly... chuck well no need in beating a dead horse... mike is selfish... bonzi is still bonzi... steve brings toughness but no one seems to want to take up for their teammates when they're hacked ala how Devin Harris did to Yao. Blame it on my frustration wit the way the team is playing or whatever else but this team will have to undergo drastic changes sooner rather than later. We may have the right players but if they're not utilized correctly then we're as good as a lottery team!

and DonkeyMagic why do i have to be a classless piece of trash? cant i be a mound at least?

I agree that most coaches value a battier for his work ethic and that he plays smart. where I think that gets over stated in battier's case is that being a player who doesn't handle the ball much, it really doesn't matter that he doesn't make dumb decision or is a ball hog.

it would matter a lot more if steve francis didn't make dumb decisions or if mike james wasn't a bit of a ball hog, because their role, their decisions with the ball have a lot more impact.

Want to see something "published" on it? How about something to the effect that Rudy Gay was the 42nd best ranked NBA player for Adjusted +/-in 2006-07. Battier was 70th and Chuck Hayes was 71st.

That's not ME talking...that's YOUR stats Guru's at 82 games.

Thanks. Already made note of that in this post, in this thread.

And I don't believe the adjusted +/-, as calculated in that article, considers game flow either. Whether that's a fatal flaw is debatable.

There's no magic formula that can precisely rank players from "best" to "worst", because such a ranking doesn't make sense. And any "stats guru" who claims such a formula exists doesn't understand what he's talking about.

    I gotta disagree with you.

A shot is NOT a shot.

If I tell you to take 100 free throws.
Then I tell you to take the SAT and then run 5 miles.
Then immediately take 100 more freethrows.

Are you suggesting you'll have a statstically insignicant difference in FT% before and after?

clue phone: professional athletes are not robots.

That is so true, when i play basketball and my team is trying to run a new offence. I get the open shot but I think should i take it? I hesitate. Same with Battier, they arent coming out automatic for him, you can see it. He gets the shots and they arent like being released straight away. Its almost like you think his going " crap am i meant to hit an open cutter?"

Shane Battier should run for political office. He always says the right thing, but saying the right thing and having a good image do no translate into results on the court. It's obvious that trading him for Rudy Gay was a big mistake and I'm starting to think that the Rockets should seriously consider moving Batter in a package deal. As long as he's a Houston Rocket, my message to him would be that actions speak louder than words.

    Lol

I think its time to bringing in Battier off the bench. He has the hustle and work ethic to be good in the role, bring some energy as the 6th man.

I had the same problem too; I passed up open looks. After my teammates convinced me that I was hurting the team by not shooting, I started to shoot way more and play a lot better.

When both Battier and Alston are open for three, Battier should *never* pass it to Alston. He needs to automatically shoot the ball.

First off, graduating high school and college does not constitute intelligence. In fact, far from it. Only people who have nothing to offer outside of their degrees quantify intelligence with paper. Second, I said nothing about YOU stringing together 3 sentences....I said just because Battier can string together 3 sentences does not make him an Uncle Tom. You say that you have the right to call Battier an Uncle Tom; I can't disagree with that. What I can disagree with is you using an antequated, horribly offensive term for someone who has shown nothing but class, and dignity. But enough of this...all you have really done is shown how truly classless you are. There ain't a degree in the world that can teach you that, apparently.

Back to the topic at hand. Battier is a career 40-something % 3-pt shooter, and subsequently shot his career best last year. The man is a consumate professional and will find a way to get his stroke back. I am confident of that. Now, with that being said....it's pretty obvious that he's having a really hard time adjusting to this new system. It's definitely the most free-flowing one he's been a part of, since his previous two coaches were Mike Fratello and JVG. Neither of those guys were exactly known for their offensive prowess.

Gay, 17 points on 20 shots; Battier, 13 on 9, with 60% from long range.

    Looks pretty fixed to me.

P.S. Thanks for eating Mr. DNP, Jerry!

Props to Battier, I hate on him more than anyone, but he had a solid performance tonight. I think tonight shows when he can be the most effective, when he is on the floor with other offensive threats as a 5th option. I can live with Battier if he is continuously assertive, takes advantage of the little man in the post, doesn't hesitate on the three, and makes quick decisions. I still don't buy Battier as much value in the playoffs, but I thoroughly enjoyed his scrappy play tonight.
