Bit of a bummer; I like Mike. But, with a partially guaranteed contract, this couldn't have been a surprise for him. As soon as the rockets matched landry's offer, Harris' agent probably started calling euro/asian teams.
why is mike harris having so much trouble finding a job with another team? why does it seem like we're his only option if he were to play for an nba team?
Hey rookie, cutting players who are under contract is a worst case scenario. Strawberry and Wafer are NOT under contract ...therefore they are the targets. Cutting Luther isn't even on the table.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think at least one of the two (Strawberry or Wafer) is not due any money unless he is on the squad when the season starts. Cutting them before training camp / preseason is over will save us from paying them anything at all, as opposed to whatever we pay them by keeping them on during the regular season and then cutting them.
Strawberry's contract isn't guaranteed unless he's still on the roster opening night. I'm thinking Wafer's is a non guaranteed also.
I like Mike Harris, but if we're cutting descent players that just means that we have a really good team.
man i would love to have gerald green instead of luther head any day of the week.....I would bet anything in the world that he would have had a better % last year against Utah......**** anyone of us on this board would have shot better than Head did last year so that might not be saying much....sorry
I would assume it's because his 'player card' doesn't look great. He doesn't have the size the teams are looking for, and his stats haven't ever shown him to be that good, so other teams just don't know. The Rockets may value him more than anyone else because they have had so much time with him to see how hard of a worker he is, etc. Those kinds of thing take more than just a workout or a little game footage to see.
It really sucks this has to happen, but he was too redundant and probably the furthest behind anyone among their respective depth charts. Too bad we can't just cut Head or Francis since that will be paying a guaranteed contract for nothing. But if Francis can't go we might as well cut him unless we can get something in return for that contract. The final decision is now Strawberry or Wafer. I think I'll go with the offense and take Wafer. That and the possibility of the Rafer Wafer tandem.
Yea, definitely a horrible deal. Sun Yue is garbage right now. I don't think he will even stick as a reserve in this league, long-term. Comparing the third best players in that deal, Matt Barnes wins hands down. Comparing the best players, T-Mac's health is still in question and even when healthy, his fantasy value should go down this season with our added depth. Caron Butler and Joe Johnson are both fantasy studs, with Butler's value higher than ever with Arenas sidelined and the Wizards being a crappy team.
Paging Carl Herrera ..... I think we have a small bet to settle. I hope clutchfans will receive the contribution soon.
as much as i like tmac, if we're talking fantasy and stats alone (which fantasy sports is all about), um don't do that deal. chances are with the rockets this year, tmac will have his stats decrease. doesn't mean he'll be a worse player but he has ron ron to get some of his points. mike miller could be alright this year as far as shooting alone ... and i believe he is on a bad team but ... caron butler is going to be a BEAST. especially since he's the only one of the big 3 in washington healthy at the beginning of the season. but even with all 3 healthy, caron will put up at least the same #'s as tmac; probably putting up bigger #'s actually. sun yue won't get any playing time probably ... joe johnson is going to do awesome again this year and i think matt barnes can/will produce even more this year too. so don't do that trade ... hm i should do fantasy again. totally forgot about it this year.
oh ... and about the actual topic ... this move was the obvious one. i wish mike the best. hopefully he'll make it somewhere in the nba. love the work ethic of the guy. dj vs wafer ... hmmm, if i hadta choose based on what i've seen so far ... i'd go with keeping wafer. as much as has been made on dj's defense, i haven't seen him necessarily "shut down" an opposing pg yet. but i believe he's better a defender than what i've seen ... er, this is a hard decision. i just believe dj's offensive game isn't enough at this point and i honestly don't see him slowing down deron williams and chris paul that much better, if it all, than rafer can/will. tough call. ahhh. oo, and i think as the season goes on, we'll find out who the odd man out is and cut/buy out? that guy to make room for mt. mutombo. we MUST get mutombo back. wouldn't feel right to have success without him.
Gerald Green hurts waaaaay more than Mike Harrs but hopefully this means we are closer to signing MUTOMBOOOO! If not then we need a legit backup center at lease 7ft tall.
If the rockets could not make a decision to keep Wafer or Strawberry, it would mean none of them is worth to keep.
I'd keep Strawberry, only because he is already a created player on my 2K9 team. If they keep Wafer, I have to see if he is a free agent, try to sign him to the team, etc.....
