declan00231, I'm an old Cougar and really excited about what Pender is doing. The team is all speed and shooting, but they are fun to watch and will give many teams fits. I wonder how they will match up against big AND fast.
Anyone else find it hilarious that people want Rudy T back? Did you forget about his 4 straight losing seasons as a Rocket HC? Or how he had to quit BOTH of his last 2 jobs mid-season because of health issues?
Amen. I think to a certain extent we are going to need a better-than-average big man to be top 10, but that doesn't mean we can't wreak havok now. Penders does deserve a lot of credit, I can't believe that he has every team we face worrying about how they can match up with us already. If he can Houston boys to start staying home the really good times will start rolling again. Lanny, get healthy! Oh, sorry wrong forum.
In his last four years he had ONE losing season, he did however have four straight non-playoff seasons.
people are funny, jvg had the same record rudy did with the Francis team. 45 wins, but because one year that meant playoffs, and one year it didn't, people claim he turned them around when what that really means it was probably harder to win 45 games with Rudy because the conference was tougher if that total didn't get you in.
Blasphemy!!! You sir, are the root of all evil!! But I understand why some of us would want Rudy T back. He's a great coach that has won championships. He did have 4 consecutive seasons w/o going to the playoffs, but I think the 2 Championships in the 90s negate that fact. Also, don't forget that Rudy is a players coach and this team is very, very similar (in terms of positions) to our championship days.
you really cant be sayin that TMACS years are numbered? at 27 ? he just dindt rest at all over the offseason that is why he is having this problem....its still early int he season, the west is weak we will be there in april
It's not about his age, it's about the number of years he's spent in the league Remember, he came out of high school, not college This is already his 9th season in the league. T-Mac has taken a lot of wear and tear His athleticism is going to start falling off soon
You've now tried to make this point two to three times. I know you love Francis and all, but quit making references that aren't valid. First, Johnson was a power forward that played a different style game than t-mac. Second, these back problems can be attributed to the tendinitis in the beginning of the season and will go away with time. Third, Francis is gone and he still isn't the star you want him to be.
Hell, don't worry about it. We're all so damned depressed about the way the team is playing that it's fun for old UH fans to ponder Penders. A great hire! Go Coogs! Go Rockets!! (please turn it around... this is drivin' me insane)
Fourth, he came back from his back "problems" and displayed a better all around game or at least so says NBA.com http://www.nba.com/playerfile/larry_johnson/bio.html and the pinched nerve at the end of the career is not what t-mac has.
I have never mentioned Johnson and his back problems in relation to tracy mcgrady before now and my only point is that back problems can hamper younger players' careers. lastly, I didn't say anything about francis. I love when I piss you guys off and all you can say is francis.
Of any of the names mentioned Al Harrington is the only person who could actually help our team anything else would be a desperation move which will probably hurt us in the long run. Spree is going to ask for a multi-year deal and I would not do anything but 1 year veteran minimum for him, he is just a warm body who can give us 20 minutes a night at this point I don't think he can give us quality defense. Darvin Ham is the only other person who could maybe give us some D, but our most glaring weakness is perimeter defense and shooting and he is not going to help with either.
you conviently didn't show how much of decline johnson's numbers went through especially going from 10 boards a game in his 1st two years to just over 5 by his sixth year.
That's exactly my point. If after a couple of month into every season, you have to say, "OK, this bunch of players is not working out. Let's do some trading." Isn't that an indication of some incompetency somewhere?
you conveniently forgot this thread pgabriel referencing larry johnsons bad back with tmac's health and Larry Johnson was lost in the Knicks system at the time who had both Patrick Ewing and Anthony Mason in the frontcourt which limited his minutes (as evidenced by the 6-8 minute drop) and therefore his scoring and rebounding numbers. But lets not let facts get in the way.
