Yes, 13 points and 8 rebounds is really something special. Why excatly do they deserve this exposure? Is it the four years out of the playoffs, or the beautiful, graceful brand of basketball the Rockets play?
This means there's definitely another All Star appearance for Francis (starter). As for Yao, it could go either way I think. I think that the Shaq supporters will come out big time to get that starter's spot back for Shaq. Either way, yao will be there, starter or bench player.
When the games are on TNT or ABC, those networks have exclusivity -- which means we don't (can't) do a local broadcast. When the games are on ESPN or NBA TV, we'll still do our local broadcast. As for which stations will carry the local broadcasts -- we're still in negotiations. Sometimes it's hard to get these things done and the stations know what the schedule is like so they know what they're negotiating for. The stations that are typically the best over-the-air options, for example, the local WB and UPN affiliates, have difficulty taking on games that conflict with the prime time programming they get from their parent network. Tim
Um, no. Sorry. That's why they're called "local." Unless, of course, you get League Pass. (This is an extremely common question, though.) I wish we could broadcast in Dallas, or throughout the state. We'd do it if we could.
Yeah, Steve should be a lock to start. As for Yao, he may start due to the Chinese population, but most likely Shaq would play the big minutes like he did last year. Like you said though, yao will be there either way.
Last year on League Pass, I generally got the other team's local broadcast. How about this year? Are you guys still starting your own network, or will you have a deal with fox sports net? I know I'm getting sick muting the broadcast because I can't stand to listen to the other teams homer announcers. I want our homer announcers .
Thank you, Tim. I have just moved from out of state so Dallas seem to be more local to Houston than where I were before.
Tim, was this the case last year? I could have sworn that I remembered watching Bill and Calvin cover the game rather than the national version(I distinctly remember not wanting to hear Tolbert and Walton)...and sometimes I would have the national game playing on my tv and have KNWS playing on my computer.. Am I thinking of the wrong channel? I thought it was TNT, but I suppose my memory could be failing (wouldn't be the first time) and whats the word on FSSW this year? no luck again? Thankd for clearing this up for us..
Tim, on the off chance that you're still reading this thread . . . Similar question on Rockets telecasts. I live in New York, and I'm in one of those annoying buildings that can't wire me for DirectTV or league pass. So I take in most Rockets games at sports bars. (Thankfully, this city has no shortage of sports bars). I saw a great deal of Rockets games via sattelite. And each game, I was hoping it would be the local telecast with Calvin and Bill. But it never happened; I always got the opponent's lousy team. Did I just have bad luck, is it random? Or is there some kind of contractual reason that our local telecasts are not used for national sattelite feeds? (Maybe the odds are 50-50 and I just had extraordinarily bad luck). Anyways. Not an urgent question, but I've been curious for a while. Thanks! (btw, I love that the Rockets VP of Marketing is posting at 12:12 am. That's good stuff). Edited to add---- now I feel guilty that we're abusing Tim's presence. Sorry, I guess these kinds of questions could be fielded through the appropriate official Rockets website.
That is one of the coolest things about Tim...even when some people are slamming the organization left and right(and marketing in particular)..he hasnt failed to keep his cool and answer our questions. If he is any indicator of the quality of folks at the Rox head office..we have the best organization in the league.
Rockets2K, it wouldn't have been the TNT broadcast. All of our games there were exclusives for them. For background -- the NBA typically puts 3 games on Thursdays. TNT gets to declare two of those as exclusives, and the third is a "backup" game. If for some reason they decide to drop one of their exclusive games and pick up the backup instead (for example, the backup becomes a better matchup halfway into the season), the original "exclusive" becomes a local-only broadcast and what was the backup becomes a "side by side" broadcast -- meaning it will be on both TNT and the local channels. Regarding which game league pass picks up -- they generally give preference to whichever team is using a regional sports network (like Fox Southwest). If both teams or neither use an RSN, they generally use the home broadcast. We didn't use an RSN last year, which is why we didn't get picked up that often on League Pass. Tim
What about Fox Southwest? Other sports teams have deals with them so is it possible that our games can be on there too? The reason I ask is that I don't live in Houston during the season but I bought a deal that gets me all the Fox Sports channels. PLEASE have Rockets games on Fox Sports. The Spurs are absolutely boring to watch.
That must have been the case, upon further thought, I only remember the scenario I described happening once. one last question on this.. is it looking better this year for broadcast on a RSN (FSSW?) I actually dont want them to be, since I only have basic cable going into my computer and the RSNs arent shown without a digital settop box. Meaning of course I wouldnt be able to watch the games and be in chat since my computer room only has basic cable.
dont get me wrong... Yao MIng is going to be the future along side with Steve, but its like watching Tim Duncan... Hes one of the best but you have to admit hes boring to watch...
