Judging from the costume design she did for the Cell I think it's fair to say that Eiko knows a lot more about designing clothing apporiate for the setting than many of you are giving her credit for.

I can't begin to fathom why so many people doubt the Rocket's organization. They know the players and fans hate the current uniforms and now they're correcting the mistake they made last time. I think it's safe to say from judging her past work that Eiko prefers clean lines and darker colors which should fit in well with what the players and fans want in the new uniforms. And if Steve Francis is happy with them than I am to!

Francis said they were better than the existing ones..that ain't saying much!

If they want a classy, long-lasting look..they shouldn't have hired a designer that wants to create a new look or break the cutting edge!

I do like the new jersey cut ie. Lakers/Raptors..Ming would look tough in that!

Just to clear up one thing -- there is no disagreement on vision between Eiko and the Rockets. We've had long discussions on our vision with Eiko, and we're all on the same page. We wouldn't have chosen to work with her if we weren't.

Keep in mind that some words are loaded with a lot of baggage, and that this isn't Eiko's first language. We are looking to be forward-looking rather than retro, and we do want to be the team that other teams want to copy more than we want to copy someone else.

That's what Eiko was getting at with "futuristic"; my reaction was what it was because "futuristic" also can imply things that we don't want -- things that would cause exactly the same reaction that's happening here.

Eiko's a world class designer and we're absolutely on the same page. Just the wrong choice of words to describe that vision, that's all.

It's saying that they are better.

That's a good thing if you ask me.

Given my incessant takes on the need to return to Rocket Red, I'm certain you all know just how giddy I was upon reading this article the other day in the Chronicle.

    Bring it!!!!

So "futurisitic" meaning..uniforms that other teams will aspire to in the future? That sounds better than futuristic fonts and logos with teeth :)

Classy and unique sounds like a tall order..because to be unique you have to push the envelope and take chances.. I think we tried that before..just guessed wrong and tried to incorporate too many ideas..

I trust we will learn from our past mistake and come across with a Championship look to match our Championship team!

Yeah, I don't mind the current unis (esp. the colors) too much other than a lot of the blue and of course the pin-stripes.

Proper use of red (the main color), silver, black, and white should do the job IMO. Black should be more important than just an outline color though. I dunno, it just seems kinda... Rocket-y to me.

NO! CHANGE MEANS CHANGE FOR THE BETTER! Not return to the boring, dull, barferiffic designs/color-combo. Those old uniforms were equally terrible, just for different reasons - there's a reason we changed them in the first place.

I'm not a reactionary, I wanna see something new. :D

The old red and yellow would need to be updated. Maybe to a red and gold, red and silver, etc. But to me and IMHO, red, white and blue is not a good color scheme for a sports uniform. Strictly from an aesthetic point of view, red and blue bring out totally different "personalities" in a uni and don't go well together. I think they should either be all red and gold/silver or all blue and gold/silver.

In other words, too many colors on one uni loses it's character. The color Red goes better with the word "rocket" and either gold or silver goes with red.

Most of the classic unis (Oakland Raiders, Boston Celtics, Dallas Cowboys, New York Yankees, Chicago Bulls, etc..) have been associated with strong dominant coloring and sharp clean lines.

Following this logic the Rockets should be primarily red with a much smaller amount of a secondary color.

I wish we could hire the guy who designed the Texans logo. That was the best sports team logo that I have seen in the past 20 years. It incorporates everything that we want: simple, clean, powerful, timeless, and looks great on a cap.

I hope the Rockets follow the lead the Texans did in this area. No question that Houston overwhelmingly like the Texans gear considering everyone I know has something Texans related. Currently I don't have a single piece of Rockets apparel. The sole reason for that is that the gear looks awful. You can't even find a decent Rockets cap at Lids.

man, i think clutch is great and hope he stays as the mascot.

as for the uniforms, from what i've read it seems like the rockets know what they're doing so i'm looking forward to a sweet design. i definitely like the idea of red, maybe with some white mixed in too.

me thinks the Rox'N Stripe unis are unique in the league, and quite a handsome outfit. But the Rox shouldn't go retro, as it will make them look decade impaired. 3 decade impaired. IMO. The current unis should work good for the new stadium environment. :)

From reading Tim's and the media comments, my impression is that the new unis will NOT be the standard college style (iw with the simple "Houston" curving around the number on the front.) or the modern cut that the Lakers have.

On a side note, did anyone else notice that you can buy rockets t-shirts with the retro rockets lettering on it? You can see them at nba.com A prelude maybe?

red as the primary color and grey as the lettering seems like the logical thing.

but who knows what the rockets will do (as evident with our current uni's)
