Wouldn't it be funny if the Rockets win the championship this year and they change their uniforms the very next season? How stupid would that be?

Oh wait, they already did that once.

    Why geeeeee.....

I wan't to be part of something BIG. Is there a way we can see the uniforms early instead of waiting till August? because im dying out here and i want to see some of the ideas made by Eiko.

    BULL****.

A designer? My God. What do they need a damn designer for? Is this designer a FAN?

"What we're looking for is a simple, classic palette, less cartoony, less busy, more streamlined, a more classy look."

HELLO? The classy look you're looking for is hanging in the rafters of the Summit RIGHT NOW. You don't need a 'designer' to see that. Can you imagine the Boston Celtics hiring a designer to come up with new uniforms? HELL NO. Every time I'm in the Summit and see those championship banners, I think how stupid it is to have those banners in one design, then look down and see a completely different logo on the court. What is that all about? It's like it's not even the Rockets playing out there.

Do the Rockets care one bit about the people who have been following them for 20-30 years? Or is it all about the merchandising money?

No red and gold, no championships.

SA Rocket, I had the exact same reaction to the article. It seems like Tim and Eiko are going in different directions on what they want on the uniforms, so I'm a bit worried about a disconnect there. Upon further reflection, though, it seems to be a good fit to me. The keeper of the purse wants something classic and tasteful and the designer wants to innovate. I think there is some potential there to have something that is new and trailblazing in the league but still tempered and confined to the reality of the market. If Tim is smart (and who knows if he is :) ), we may end up with something really cool; but, if he blows it, it could be very, very bad (well maybe not so much bad as inappropriate to the venue). No pressure or anything.

Freak, I think you don't give the designers enough credit. I think they bring plenty of value to the product. I really don't know anything about the history of how the Rockets made past logo and uni design decisions, but somehow I don't think our previous logo was the result of Charlie Thomas scribbling in a legal pad during lunch.

The question is: who has the final say so?

    Les?

Agreed. I had the same feeling when I read the article as well. They both seem like polar opposites to me BIG TIME, and I dont understand what they are trying to do. One wants to be futuristic and cutting edge, the other wants something classy and simple that is less cartoony.

Steve Francis reaction to the initial drawings: "They are better than the ones we have now".

No: "wow", "these look great", "cool", whatever......

Thats the reaction I want if I am a player, fan, or consumer......

God I hope they dont blow it!!

    A side note:

    PLEASE DITCH CLUTCH THE BEAR!!!!!

After reading this entire thread, I think I feel much worse about the situation. The words "futuristic" and "cutting-edge" frighten and disturb me to the point of depression.

    :(

Thanks DarkHorse, you summed up my feelings on the subject perfectly while causing me to shoot soda out of my nose.

Maybe the uniforms and logos for the Rockets this year will have special arms and muscles shooting sparks out their ears. jk. hope not!

I really like the Dark Blue and Red tone going.. but some people wants to bring back the Red and Gold of the championship years. So is there a way we can have an alternate road jersey so we can use both the colors themes?

I don't mind the uni's now, and I don't mind going back to red and I don't mind getting rid of the stripes (although they never have bothered me before) but I do hope we keep the logo

How do you do it now?

Seattle got it right, subtle changes to the original, but still with a link to the past. Knicks too. Our current uni's look like bad 80's gang graffitti (sp?). Bring back the red with subtle updates. "The Rockets RED glare". And PLEASE lose that damn teddy bear! GAWD!!! I don't get it. Keep Turbo, he's great.

I like the Power Dancers uni's. The only change I'd make is to lose the underwe.....I'm sorry, I almost said something rude.

Man, Tim....I hope you guys know what you're doing with this "designer."

"It's a very good meeting," Eiko said. "In December I showed about 15 ideas. Most came from my own ideas. Ten people discussed together and developed Eiko's designs. Now I have more conservative ideas. Basically I want to create a uniform that is very unique and I hope will be a design leader.
This is a direct quote from Eiko, who apparently speaks about herself in the third person. This makes me more nervous due to the fact that it is incredibly irritating. I do like that she says that she has "more conservative ideas," though.

"I am an outsider. Basketball uniforms are so old-fashioned. The Houston Rockets uniform can be a leader. I want it to be more futuristic."
I would like to think the Rockets know what they're doing with this chick, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Then again, I think most of us thought they knew what they were doing when they sent the Dream to play hoops in his jammies.

There are indications the Rockets are strongly leaning toward changing their dominant color back to red (perhaps with silver lettering) rather than their road blue.
This statement restores my faith, however. Please don't f*ck this up, guys!

Thanks for keeping us informed, Tim, even if you can't say much. :)

Just remember... whatever they are we'll be stuck with them for a looooong time. There was a quick consensus that the PJ's were a BIG mistake. And we still have them. PLEASE don't embarrass us before the League again.

    PLEASE.
    Thank you.

Please have a Rocket on the logo? Maybe not a baby blue one with shark teeth, but a real rocket.
