<blockQUOTE>Originally posted by CriscoKidd I have no concerns with him playing sf d, hell, he could be an d upgrade over what we've had there since Elie, imo(<b>course I could be wrong</b>).</blockQUOTE> Crisco, That's the slyest little comment this pedestrian side of Will Salatan!! Becasue you now that no one around these parts is going to say that you are wrong for forgetting #33. LOL!
Glen Rice's rehabilitation of his surgically repaired right knee is scheduled to be tested Friday. Thats a direct quote from the article. When exactly did he have surgery? Wasnt it during the summer? Clutch help us!
Verse:- From your post are you thinking that while Mobley and Francis are on the court that Yao Ming won't get many offensive chances? If this is your belief then there will be disaster for the Rockets! This indicates that Mobley and Francis are going to continue on their selfish ways. I and others have hoped that Rudy T would whip them into shape and that they would sacrafice for the good of the Team. I had the impression that Rudy was bringing in a new format, now that we have a great Center ,and that the old selfish ways and Dribble Mania were out the door!
I am glad the Rockets didn't move anybody this off-season. There is still enough uncertainty about Taylor and Rice coming back from their injuries to make standing pat with Kenny Thomas make sense. Ultimately, I would love for the Rockets to be able to move Mo Taylor for a solid two guard and have Cuttino come off the bench. I want as much Eddie on the court as possible.
My thoughts exactly...do you think they convince themselves that the stuff they're saying is true, or do they spend time in front of a mirror practicing saying stuff like that with a straight face? ( I'm assuming he had a straight face when he said it.)
Actually, I think many 3s could do a better job if Kenny was unable to post-up. Do you know how many moves Kenny had as of last season. I can think of three. One was jab step and fake the jump shot and then drive on PFs. Kenny was able to do this well because he had alot of quickness on most PFs, but on many SFs this won't work. The other move was his spin-move to jump hook. This would work well on SFs, but that's if he was posting up. THe other move was when he was trying to fake the jumper and the PF wouldn't buy it, and he'd shoot an ugly mid-range J. Just because you have Eddie and Yao, does not mean you dismiss that Kenny would have trouble on the perimeter D. Kenny is an awesome back-up PF, if getting paid as a back-up. However, at 3, I don't see how he'd do much offensively unless he posted up. ON D, he'd be fine against the post-up type SFs, but the wing-types would burn him and break him down. I think Corliss Williamson basically was KT. I do buy Q as a SG because he can score in the post, on transition, and on the perimeter. He is versatile, but can actually shoot. I do buy Steve as a PG. That's a whole other argument though. Obviously he looks to score more than a traditional PG, but if people think Baron is a top PG, Steve is as good if not a little better than him. The only "pure" PGs I can think of are Stockton, Kidd, and Miller. Steve could get 8 assists if his perimeter guys could hit, we had consistent post-play, and we had a better system then the lame flex. It looks like we will this year, so... I'm not saying KT would not be a fine back-up SF, because he probably would, but I like him more at PF. "Thomas, who is even slimmer than last season's trimmed-down version, will start training camp at small forward" I guess I misunderstood, but if Kenny wasn't starting, who would be? Rice? I hope not? Nachbar? I'd like to see that, but I doubt it'd happen.
KT is strong. He will be able to post up and back down some smaller sfs. It never hurts with one more creator on the team.
tozai, concerning your statement <i>I think Corliss Williamson basically was KT. </i> Please consider for a second that Corliss is 29 yrs old...was a much bigger prize coming out of college like Fizer; he is a lousy defender; and a lousy rebounder . . . just like Fizer. Those are not KT characteristics. KT is Fox with a low post game, or Rose with offense. KT can produce as much offense as Corliss and do everything else better as well. imo, Corliss is a classic bad tweener with absolutely no ability ever to play PF and is too slow for SF, yet he can score. KT is a tweener who makes tweener a good thing. He gives tweener the meaning of a 2 position player who can get the better of many SFs and PFs as one man. Corliss and Fizer cannot get the better of any PFs or many SFs...they are the baaaad tweeners.
I know, I'm just protecting my ass. If I make one bad statement someone will just single that out and try to invalidate the crux of my post. *cough*MacBeth*cough* imo Pippen sucked on D. Just sucked overall since Chicago, coasting on his natural ability and playing with no real intensity. Shandy was okay, but far from stellar. Wiz? No. KT doesn't have a hard act to follow. Btw, I just busted out some an old game tape when the rocks had Bark, Drex, and Hakeem against the T-Wolves. Elie took on the assignment of Mr. All-star(think he was that season) Googs and gave him fits all night. Amazing. Elie was a badass.
I'm not too surprised that KT might be moving to the 3 spot.Boki needs time and Rice is old. I think if Boki develops into a starter than KT might become our regular reserve SF once Rice leaves. I still think KT will be able to postup rival SF's because of his advantage over them. By slimming down he won't be going against stronger and taller PF's which shows that the team is going to give Griffin and Mo-T major minutes at the 4 spot with KT playing a reserve role as a PF on occasions. This has some risks because Mo-T doesn't have much of a low post game and is also coming off an injury and Griffin still needs time to develop his skills and physical strength as a PF. In the longterm this could however result in Griffin becoming our starting PF which we are hoping he will become.
The article specifically states that "The Rockets did not make contract offers to small forwards Walt Williams and Dan Langhi." What about Oscar Torres and Tierre Brown? No mention of either in the article. What's their status? Maybe neither will be resigned since Kenny will be playing small forward. Maybe Boki and Tito will get time at back up two-guard in Torres' spot, and Tito will get the 3rd point guard minutes in Brown's spot.
Collier's done, imo. Once Yao's starting (I'm not sure that will be right away), my guess is that Griffin will get most of the backup 5 minutes, and Cato will come in when the Rox need to get more physical.
I'm not sure if Boki can pan out to be a starter. Kt might be the long term starting sf if Boki doesn't live up to the expection. Kt is a badass. Boki is too right now, but in another sense(hernia). So I'm not gonna write off my boy Kt yet. It'll be fun to see who'll become our starting sf for years to come.
Is Griffin still 6'9'' or did he grow? If he grew please give details (proof) of height increase. I see many posters calling Griffin 6'11'' and one even call him 7'0''. At the very least we could be accurate!
oh no. what i believe is that while cat and steve are on the floor with ming, ming will get the same # of offensive touches (since the offense will be run through him). however, because cat and steve are 2 proven, legitimate scorers, ming will be passing off to them more often than he will when they are not in the game. ps. DOWN WITH DRIBBLE MANIA!!!!
i think kenny playing the three spot, will create no problems at all. and i don't think that he even needed to slim down. he was always quick enough to play the three and always had the footwork. and he' been known to have a decent shot behind the arc. the rockets this year are going cause so many mis matches. it won't even be funny. with our team rudy can create any kind of lineup he wants a quick lineup, a big lineup, and three point shooting lineup. anything.
