I didn't say it like it was the best thing in the world, but who else is there?

Yao is several years out with the language and cultural barriers.

Cato is articulate and intelligent (and playing some smart ball), but he loses his composure on the court too often

JJ? The jury's still out. He has the years under his belt, but he's new and no one knows how long he'll be around.

No one else is even close.

Steve is the one "positioned" to be the team's leader, but quotes like this are NOT the stuff of great leaders. This was a blunder.....plain and simple, and you can be sure that we're not the only ones deriding him for it.

Who else did the paper bother to quote? JJ and Mobley. Mobley got thrown a curve ball by being asked specifics, and he deftly handled it. JJ's response was equally (if not more) proffessional. Don't think these "little things" are not important in determining who is looked up to by the other players.

Sorry to be a Steve Basher but this is becoming a trend. One that has lasted five years and two coaches now.

Seriously, does anyone still think that Steve can be a real franchise player?. I really want to know?. Are there any Steve lovers who are now starting to have a change of heart, see that Steve may be the problem instead of the solution?. I do not think he is the guy to lead us to championships. Lots of heart but no results. What am I not seeing that some of you guys do that keeps you being believers. Five years is long enough to wait for a change.

    Sorry dude,

Does Francis say stupid things, yes. I can't deny that. He gets caught up in his emotions.

OK, I'm mostly a SF fan, but GEEZE, Steve . . . exercise some discretion and keep quiet sometimes. I admit that SF carries this team at times, but in my book, he won the bonehead award even before these comments. Will someone PLEASE answer something for me?

    1) If I remember correctly, when Bosh shot the 3, Steve was the man rotating to defend. He was, however, a good 10 ft. inside the arc. Why in that circumstance, would you guard anyone who is NOT on the perimeter? Was he there to prevent a drive to the hole?

Given that Bosh was SF's man at the time and he was clearly out of position to defend the 3, I would think that he would just keep quiet until that lapse was forgotten. Bad, Steve, Bad.

    2) Upon bringing the ball in with (14?) seconds left, WHY do you dribble the ball on the perimeter, only to settle for a desperation long 3 attempt as time expires? Are you trying to run the clock down before the shot to prevent a Toronto score on the next posession, or are you concerned with getting a high percentage shot?

I thought the hiring of JVG was supposed to put an end to these types of comments?

Also, where is the multi-page thread about JVG not telling his players to foul?

It wasn't Steve's fault cuz it never is. Of course if he also played like he should in regulation he would have been the hero therefore never needed to play well in 1OT. But what do I know I'm not a pro player. I'm sure jacking up a 3 is a lot better than getting a foul when he needed 1 to win.

I'm also a firm believer of law of the averages. If you toss up 10 bad shots I'm sure one of those will go in.

So here's a question to all ONLY FANS. How long do we give Steve Francis and Cuttino Mobley before we decided they are not what this team needs? I feel sick to my stomach that there are still people defending them for making boneheaded mistakes after 4 and 5 seasons. So how long?

And just so we're clear I'll post my expectations right now. I give Yao until the end of next season. Meaning if he doesn't start playing better by the beginning of his fourth year I advocate roster changes. As for Steve and Cat, as far as I'm concerned they are already on the egg timer. If they don't perform this season then I support strongly a decision to move at least one of them.

i kinda agree. i mean, i know it's early in the season and a lot of ball is yet to be played under a new coach and system, but this is getting absurd. we see the same idiot mistakes year in and year out. the exact same ones. over and over again. it's just so g*ddamn frustrating. these are things he needs to be realizing himself. he shouldn't need a freaking coach to tell him these things - it's obvious what they are, and if he's too oblivious, stupid, and/or selfish to figure that out, then he needs to go. i'm done waiting for him to come around and figure it out.

this is francis' fifth season, not his first. wasting 14 seconds to jack up a three when one point would have won it?!? are you f*cking serious?!? that's being selfish and even moreso - stupid. seventh graders would know to try and take it to the basket and dish out to the open man or try and get the foul. yet a fifth year "franchise" player can't realize that? and not to mention the JVG actually called for him to pass around to find the open man...

it's one thing to undermine what your coach tells you if you think you'll help the team; it's another thing if you're just r****ded.

it's called EXECUTION francis, steve cannot execute a play period!
LUCKY?? francis is FOOLISH, of course he said Bosh's shot was LUCKY, he's just mad because his Hail Marys (twice) didnt go in, what kind of idiot play was that anyway?? somebody needs to kick him in the head. Francis is not a PG! or a smart player. AGAIN, SF continues to take the lowest % shot...sure when it goes in it's like WHoooah he made that?? but it's still a stupid off balance double pump fade away..maybe it's JVG's fault for runnin those last plays in OT, but we had that game in our hands, and we blew it because Francis is an IDIOT..it's so simple, penetrate and find the open man called an ASSIST...I still can't believe he took 3 pointers in OT, did he not know the SCORE???
he's a JOKE, he never ceases to aggravate me with ignorance...TRADE HIM for somebody smart and throw in moochie for FREE..

I thought having a winning record and leading our division was supposed to put an end to nitpicking and b****ing about everything the players do or say.

If Francis did what Carter did attracting double team and pass the ball to the open teammate the outcome would have been different. I don't know but you don't have to be very smart to do what Carter did. It's simple basketball concept. Pass it to the open man when you are being doubled. And with a player like Francis caliber he would had attracted the entire Raptor team in those last few seconds of the game.

My belief in the Franchise to lead this team is quickly diminished. Francis is an NBA veteran. It's so freaking unbelievable for him to make the same freaking mistakes over and over again for the past 5 years. I don't think this will be the last time we see Francis makes this same mistake this year.

Yes we are leading the division, mainly because we have had a relavtively easy schedule and it will get progressively tougher as we go into next week when we play SAC, SEA, and POR on the road. Even I'm not sure we'll beat Utah on the road. They're undefeated at home and have already beat the wolves twice. As much as Steve Francis was having a bad shooting game, took those two silly shots to end regulation and the 1st overtime and had that arrogant attitude about that lucky shot, he was basically the only one in overtime who was making the shots to keep us in the game and it certainly didn't help that the 19-year old Bosh has probably one of his best games of the season yesterday. I ain't defending him by any means, but I would also call it a lucky shot if that player haven't attempted a three til' that point regardless if he's open or not.

I think it was on JVG like he said because of that situation where they could've fouled and even though JVG thought he might've had fouled too early had he told them to foul, we would've been up at least one even if the Raptors made both foul shots and that would've still kept the pressure on them. One thing we HAVE to improve on is our shooting because ever since that Dallas game, its been atrocious and I hope JVG is extending the practices for them at least two hours to focus on just that and get the proper rotation of the ball when it leaves they're hand because when I be seeing them on T.V. they're shots are flat.

The reason we ARE 6-3 is the system. If SF believes that he is playing withing VG's system and we are 6-3, what happens if we are 6-8 or 7-7 in a couple of weeks. Is he going to blame VG's system?

BTW. I have not heard from Les this year, yet. Does he still "love these guys"?

Enough of this a win is a win attitude without ignoring glaring issues. You crazy SF defenders are just like Stevie himself....so damn stubborn.

Stevie needs to have more accountability! I'm tired of these lame excuses. What is he doing near that paint with no one close to him on the Bosh shot, shouldn't he be guarding the 3 point line?

I've officially lost hope in stevie's mental development as a basketball player.
