Even the chronicle knows Carney has 0 bball IQ. We have enough stupid players on our team. Roy all the way if he drops. (not likely)
I keep reading Cassell's name as our point guard for next year. Doesn't he have more years on his contract?
as every day goes by, i become more and more convinced that brandon roy is the right guy for the rockets. good size, unselfish, not weak defensively, can be a dominant scorer, mature. all-around, he's tops, but he's from a small school. unfortunately, i think a lot of the other teams noticed how good he was in the tournament.
Possibly this is a suttle message to prepare us psycologically that the Rockets are going to stay put with Howard and Swift. If this be so then we know that its going to take another couple of years before the Rockets make all the adjustments that are needed to put a Championship quality Team together.
Someone refresh my memory -- how many lotto balls did we have when we landed Yao? Not very many as I recall...
CD needs to find out if Spanoulis has what it takes to make it in the NBA and whether he is willing to come over next year. I think the Span decision will affect who we choose in the draft, if he doesn't come over then god forbid we may choose JJ Redick, he's the only guard I think falls to 10-12 of Roy, Carney and Redick. Blinebury likes JJ but I don't see picking a guy that will only be a backup role player his whole career even if he can shoot.
We were the 5th seed that year and SF pulled the proverbial rabbit out of the hat and got us the numero uno pick.
You really think McGrady would have an easier time guarding SGs than SFs? I think the opposite is true. Assuming we don't trade away any player, and we keep Howard and Swift, it makes no sense to draft a PF. And we have much bigger needs than backup C. A lot of people seem to be assuming that McGrady can easily slide over to SG. I don't see it. A major problem with the last few Rockets teams has been defensive quickness on the perimeter. Putting a natural SF on the opposing SG most of the game doesn't help that one bit. We need a player with size who can handle opposing SGs on defense, and switch to SF if need be (when McGrady isn't in the game). Brandon Roy and (more realistically) Ronnie Brewer look like the best fits. Some people are turned off by Brewer's shooting. But shooting is the one skill a player can improve tremendously with practice in the off season. Things like size, mobility, passing ability, court vision are stuff that's much more difficult to teach (and are just as sorely needed on this roster). Those are the things that Brewer brings to the table.
so am I and I heard he was thinking about it, but I have a client that is coach howlands' best friend and coach said no one is leaving other than the seniors. farmar is a pg who can shoot though, but he isnt ready just yet.
Is this an accurate description of McRoberts? He sounds great. If Houston is not drafting in the top five, they need to find a way to get there, maybe trading Swift and/or Head; otherwise, they should trade the pick away. Outside the draft, I still think Houston's biggest need is a legitimate PG. I still believe Heinrich or Jason Williams could help this Houston team.
Farmar has a lot of potential but not ready yet. Still makes a lot of bad decisions as a pg. I think he will be a first rounder one day - but not yet.
That's what I asked as well. If he comes to the NBA this season, he could be a perfect fit next to Yao. 6'11 athletic PF who is tough, will mix it up inside, rebounds well. I saw one website compare him to either a taller Okafor or a far more athletic Jeff Foster, another compared him to PJ Brown. How many of us would love having one of those players on the Rockets right now?
Ya he did, but these guys get caught up in the moment and say things the crowd want to hear. I'm not saying he will come out for sure, but when the scouts tell him he's a guaranteed Top 3 pick, I don't see how he can turn that down, especially with guys like Oden and Durant coming in. Sean May said the exact same thing before he declared. As for the draft, I really want to see some size and athleticism added to our backcourt, a shooter would be icing on the cake as well.
Maybe we can use the first pick of the second round (which we are getting from NY) to move up two or three spots?
That's what everyone keeps saying, but he showed pretty much none of that at Duke. From watching several games and keeping a close eye on him, I can say that he did show that he is a great open court dunker, and he's pretty good at handling the ball on the break as well. I might have seen him make a couple threes, but his post moves at Duke were pretty much nonexistant. I don't know if that's because of his role on the team or what.
With each passing day and ridiculously dumb Rocket win, I'm liking more and more Deuce's Josh Childress idea.
Big Baby is not on anybody's draft radar. He's the second coming of Tractor Traylor, only maybe even fatter, so there's not much to be excited about. And I don't think he's even coming out. Oh and regarding Splitter, it seems like his stock has really dropped. This is what Chad Ford said about him recently: If I was Splitter's agent, I'd enter the draft and let it be known that he will only come over if drafted in the 2nd round. Then he can take half the MLE or whatever and get paid more than all but top 5 picks. Fortunately for us in this scenario, we've got the first or second pick in this year's 2nd round.
If I was the GM, I would either go with JJ Reddick or someone at the PF position. Howard has past his prime and the Rockets need someone that can go in and help Yao downlow with rebounding and defense. Althernatively, having Reddick come in would bring in a bona fide outside shooter that will take the heat away from McGrady's perimiter game.
