I agree that the stadium needs to be downtown, but they also want a training center/soccer complex, and there's just not enough room downtown for that. And if the stadium goes downtown that means the city of Houston will be involved and the complex (if there is one) would most likely be somewhere in Houston as well.

Why exactly do we need to keep the golf course?

Because two guys played there once?

    Yeah. It's a keeper.

Why not take the Dome and internally build a smaller arena that houses the MLS team, practice fields, etc. Like in partitions... half of the existing for gamesm self contained... with the rest for the practice and extra fields... almost using the Dome for the super-structure as a cover only for the whole thing?

Or is the Dome that fragile? I'd hate to see the Dome completely unused if it can be used for something and/or the hotel idea is never going to happen. Or is that still on?

thats the type of forward thinking that makes Houston so beautiful

A golf course inside the loop should be a valuable asset. If it needs to be fixed up, fix it up, or lease it to someone else to.

Tear down some empty strip malls and warehouses to put the complex/stadium on

For me it looks like this:

    1) Downtown
    2) Any other inner loop sites
    3) Suburbs (I am praying that this doesn't happen)

As for Gus Wortham, I don't really care either way. As it now stands, the site is a waste of space. If they are going to renovate it, then they should renovate it (of course they have already been saying this for years). If not, then there is no question in my mind that a multi-use sports complex including soccer fields will defintiely help the East End more than a golf course.

The Dome grounds would be perfect. It's time for it to go. Blow it up and build the Dynamo a new stadium. There's plenty of space left over for fields. I don't know the golf course. But, if it's hardly used and in bad need of a makeover, why not there? Just stay away from the suburbs.

    A golf course? Please.

Are there public swimming pools we need to preserve?

put down the pipe.... don't blow up the dome.

i like the idea of using it for the games, though it won't fly... they want the fancy hotel.

Gus Wortham would be a good site, but i'd hope they would look elsewhere before ultimately deciding to build there. it would help the current community demographics more, but you would be ridding the inner loop of 25% of it's golf courses, and i'm sure a fairly large percentage of the total green space which the inner loop is severely lacking.

Why not? What other purpose will it serve as it currently stands...other than the worlds largest pile of mold? I loved going ot the Dome as a kid, but it's now an eyesore and sits on valuable ground. Something needs to be done with it. It's a perfect spot for a Dynamo stadium, surrounding fields, and more parking for Texans games.

As of now the group that wants to turn it into a hotel have the rights to it. Unless they can't come up with the money and their plan fails the Dome is already spoken for. The AstroWorld land has also been claimed already for something.

The Relient park area would be a great place but it doesn't seem very likely to be used.

So... anywhere out to the Katy direction is out of the question already... did they even consider "us"...? :(

I think Downtown would be the best alternative. I know... not a lot of space, I know...

What about that huge stretch of land from I-10 to 45 to Hogan/Crockett street? There's plenty space there.

Here's a letter from Oliver Luck clearing up that the site is not going to be for the stadium but rather for a youth complex.

while i love soccer and at the same time have never played golf at that facility, (i go to SFA to play golf) i don't think golf is really that expensive, i've been playing soccer since i was like 6 and i picked up golf at around 19 and i like them both very much and believe me, I AM NOT RICH! lol, i save money to buy stuff for my 2 favorite sports, i have a 300 dollar golf set that i'll probably use for the rest of my life, on the ohter hand, i just got these shoes that cost me 200 dollars and will probably be getting new ones in about 3 years when these wear out. haha!

When I ask myself, "Which is the community in that part of town more likely to use and love," the answer seems clear.

Not a whole lot of trees & birds & wildlife living on soccer fields though.

It all depends on the layout. Have you ever been to Bear Creek or Meyer Park? There are plenty of trees surrounding the fields with plenty of space for the birds and the wildlife. I don't know the course in question so I can't really comment on how it would be done. There are ways of doing it, however, that could possibly add to the amount of trees and such.
