exactly, JVG even stated that to the Chronicle. He said he signed Oak because of the injuries to the PF's, and Oak is here to play and help out on D, not to run his mouth.

    bejezuz,

I thought the same thing...but have been since corrected.

that only applies to players waived this year.
Since Oakley hasnt been with a team this year, he can be added at anytime and still be eligable to be added to the playoff roster.

    Uprising...
that is true but he also said he knows what he gets with Oakley...and you know that VG knew what was going to happen...and I would imagine he is secretly pretty pleased about it.

Personally, I dont like the guy and am deathly afraid he is going to cause a problem with his teammates...but I am willing to give him a chance to show me he is worth having here by his play on the court.

As soon as his negatives outweigh any positives he brings....I want him gone.

i think JVG hired Oakley specifically FOR his mouth. Oak calls it as he sees it, and by bringing him in mid-way, he sees the problems of the rox much like the way we see them, as an outsider.

it's certainly not for his playing, because i don't see where he will be able to do anything Mo and Spoon can't. i mean, what will become of him when Cato gets back?

personally, i like to see him pop steve in the mouth a few times during practice just for fun.

Yeah, he's so horrible. All he's done is given the rockets one of the top defenses in all the league and is about to lead us to our first playoff birth in five years. What a horrible coach

I am with you, man. That was the best year for Raptors fans, they actually saw exciting games, talents, and passion in that season. I sited early that he is a tough guy, who can rebound, shoot and defend well. But he really has a big mouth. I actually would call those big mouth tough talking guys p*****s. If you are man enough, you have a problem with your teammate, or your coach, go to them, and seek your conversation under 4 eyes (is there a phrase like that in English?). You say your opinion to the person directly in face, instead of biatching to the media and creating lots of trouble. That's just super ego, they might see something right and do something right, but they can not say something right. Because the reason for me when they opened their mouths is NOT to helping solve the problem, but rather show everyone that they are right about something, how smart they are. etc. That's just badmouth people at behind. I guess nobody wouldn like a colleague like that, biatching about you in front of others instead of talking to you directly.

His words would not help team chemistry at all, and put JVG, who trusted him, in a difficult position. I know Leafs are hated everywhere. But I would like to use their captain Mats Sundin as an example. They started the season slowly, and played poorly. After one embarassing loss, he called a players only meeting behind the closed door. The next 16(?) games they only lost one game in overtime. Every player said afterwards that meeting was a turning point.

People might not like hockey, because of the game, player, or the media. But I just don't see so many cocky players in NHL, there are wonderful players with excellent skills, and remarkable achievements, who come from Canada, US, and Europe. Most of them put team at first, because it's crystal clear to them, even if you are super super star, it's not even close to win the game alone, you need all four lines performing to win. And even the best offensive stars only play half of the game time. On the countrary, in NBA, those kids are cocky as hell, even though they haven't done anything. Those trash-talking, chest ponding, and pretentious acting just make me sick. The size of the ego just keeps growing. Those kids are led by examples and pushed by the media. And Micheal Jordon with his retire-com back-retire-comeback-retire is certainly a bad example. He's a wonderful, maybe the greatest one ever played this game, but I can't stand his ego.

For me, the team always comes first. If something you did, harms the team chemistry, no matter your intention, is just wrong.

I hope Oakley starts being an enforcer with Steve Francis. He's become a really childish little kid leading the league in technical fouls and playing undisciplined ball. He's made significant progress this year, but it's like 5 steps forward, 3 steps back with him. Oakley could have a positive influence on him, but I wonder if Francis respects him enough for it to have a positive effect. Oakley is no Hakeem.

Did anyone notice oakley during a timeout specifically talk to francis to his ear. It seems he could be a force that this team needs. I professional disciplined player.

I don't care if a player has been there 1/2 day or 20 years, or even if it's Oakley saying it, if what he says is true and it can help the team, so be it.

Whether it's true or not, and whether mouthing off about it helps the team, is the real question.

    ...and Oakley still sucks.

I don't think Oakley has any credibility anymore. He has a reputation for being a jerk and running his mouth. And, he can't even back up his talk with his play on the court. Nor does he get any bonus points for beiung a guy you have to put up with for the indefinite future or as a talent-acquisition, seeing as no team wanted him all season. Why would any of his teammates listen to him?

Why would they listen? Have you seen the size of his hands? I feel for the person that gets slapped around by him. Heck, he could hold Fransis in his palm and still have room for a yugo....

Never disrespect a guys who's fist is bigger than your head......
