And we got this kid @ 32. Who was that other kid??? JR Hitchcock that some of the less savvy members of this bbs wanted at 8.
Exactly!!!!!!!!!! It sounds just like JVG and his Staff , they just cant recognize God's Gift to the Rockets. We actually have a good spot up three point shooter, the first in many years!!! Great Shooters, especially from the arc, shouldn't have to play strong 'D'. I just hope that JVG doesn't try to mess up his great ability as a role player and try to make him into something that he is not!!!!!!! Novacs job should always be trying to get open to receive the ball to make shots, just like Dale Ellis did on the Sonics. not playing the traditional Forwards role.
"Obviously, he has a lot of poise and confidence for a young player." dont worry JVG will take care of that by the end of the season.
We don't agree on much but this is exactly the fear that I have. JLIII was tearing it up in the NBDL. Because of injuries, he's brought up. He looked totally without confidence. As if he's over thinking because one mistake will put you on the bench. He goes back to the D League and continues where he left off. Novak is looking good because he's playing every minute of the game and can get into a rhythm. I'm just hoping he can find a rhythm while being jerked into and out of a regular season game. This is one reason I'm not getting too excited. We had an undefeated Summer League team last year also.
Good point, but this kid reminds me more of Steve Kerr than Eric Piatkowski. Kerr had that uncanny ability to come off the bench completely cold and knock down a three, on the other hand Eric P. took a while before he found his rhythm. Novak from what I have seen seems like the natural shooter Kerr was, he won the draft camp 3 point shooting contest.
The reason that I suggested that he is God's Gift is because if he turns out to be a big asset it must have been God making an extra effort to guide the Rockets. I say this because I have little faith in the PRESENT Rockets ability to select just the right players to make a Championship Roster.Y
LoL at the later draft picks of the Rox every year. ***Cough Cough*** Langhi, Spounallis,(sp?) Badine blah blah blah. They are always the next 6th man of the year. LOL
And the one we did win Bullard shot terrible. 34%FG 32% 3's. Yikes I hope Novak is better than Bullard, no offense guys. I just can't see Novak shooting worse than 40% in a season in his whole career. He wasn't even close to 40% in college and believe me most of those threes were from beyond the NBA arc. He was one of the most consistent college three point shooters and if he doesn't succeed it will be because he doesn't play. I think we should at least play him the last couple minutes of each game on offense if it is close. Let him shoot free throws or if we are behind let Tmac drive and dish to him for the three. You don't just waste shooting like that no matter what.
I totally know what you are saying, but if Novak is given the minutes he will succeed. Novak will always have confidence and a good shot, but will JVG think that's enough to give him some playing time. That is what I am most worried about. He wanted great shooters and he got one. No solid shooter that is a backup in the league can play defense, that is why they don't start. JVG has to realize that you can not always have the best defensive players. I hope he gives him and JLIII a shot. Haha. Get it.
And you see what's happened because of that... he has refused to join the Rockets (insider info there... he's refusing to come over as long as we keep calling him V-Span... he's not a NEWS SERVICE!).
If you have watched Novak enough to make that judgment, I'll accept it. But I would caution that Novak is 6'10", Piatkowski 6'7" and Kerr 6'3". My point is that Novak has a larger set of muscles to "warm up" instantly than Kerr. Until I see how the minutes Van Gundy gives Novak affects him, I'm going to remain skeptical. Hopefully, you're right and I'm wrong on this one.
True, but last year's summer team did provide three players (Head, Hayes, and Baxter) that ended up making our team and played some important minutes. Granted they wouldn't have played those minutes if we weren't decimated by injuries, but I'm still pretty optimistic about two of them being regular contributers from now on (Head and Hayes). So sometimes summer league success does translate. I have a good feeling about Novak and Lucas.
The Rockets are filling in the blanks... Battier...versatility,defense at the 3/4,and shooting James...defense on 1/2's,can create his own shot, and can drain the 3 pointer Novak....3 point marksman...just a great shooter period. The Novak pick combined with James really helps put the Battier trade in perspective.
BTW...I like Air - Vac. Now the Rockets just need to add some athleticism at the 2/3 and a defensive/rebounder type at the 4 and we are set.
