I think they should definitely play together...at times. Good point about Duncan and Rasho. Yao and Mutombo may very well match up very good against those guys. And in similar matchups against big-slow frontcourts. Pre-emptive response: No, I do NOT think they should start together or even play extensive minutes together. But I do think it is worth trying out. Cato and Yao never played together until Rudy tried it out and liked what he saw. All in all though, I would still rather genetically meld them into one super-being. Yao can assume legal authority of this entity so we don't have to pay Mutombo's 18 mill contract - and that would free up a roster slot.
i came over to jvgs side once i realized he wasnt married to a particular way of doing things. his willingness to try different things has transformed us into real competitors
I dont think either of them can really guard a PF in this league that has some athletic ability. They would also have alot of trouble getting back on defense as teams would try to push the ball even more to tire out Deke and Yao. Lastly, if Yao or Deke went to the bench who would come off and be the backup center. The only time I can even imagine them being on the court at the same time is maybe at the very end of a game where we need Deke's defensive presence and the other team has two slower people playing at the PF and center position (maybe with dallas if they ever put in Bradley and Dampier....dont know why they would do that though or maybe with the Spurs with Duncan and Rasho).
It's the right thing to do. Yao will be forced to overcome his fear of not doing well when he is in foul trouble. He needs to be aggressive irrespective of the situation. I can live with him fouling out while being out on the attack instead of being passive. We are at our best when he is aggressive which is rare. His main problem is mental. He gets down too quickly even when he isn't in foul trouble. He can't depend on T-Mac or a healthy Sura. If he doesn't do well we probably won't make it to the playoffs.
