They keep the lights on, provide brief and litigation experience and create precedent until the important case comes along. Credible, competent lawyers couldn't work on civil rights cases because they were unprofitable and alienated politicians and the business community, so they had kooks, extremists or blacks (who couldn't testify in some parts of the country let alone get decent legal experience).

You can have crazy bureaucrats, politicians, lobbyists and voters impacting the Executive branch and Congress, frivolous lawsuits seem like the equivalent "flaw" in the Judiciary.

 

If Tim Burton can get you $10 - 15 million each time for twenty years and counting you damn well better.

Making a quick grab for the personal liability on the homeowners policy. Looks like the insurance company is playing hard ball and not giving in-this, the other two claims. People sue people for doing the same thing on golf courses. There is precedent, unfortunately.
