lol the most contribution Deke has made is Yao's much improved English skills! If Yao can understand what Deke says, Yao can understand anybody.

I wish I had as good a teacher as Deke.

Whenever I read quotes from Mutombo I read really slow and with a crackly scratchy voice in my head. It freaks me out a little.

Ewing is helping to create the atmosphere for Mutombo to get through to Yao IMO.

Props to Yao and to Deke. Sign DM for two more years. JB, too, for two.

Yeah, pretty shocking that it took somebody two years to tell Yao to keep his elbows up, and it wasn't even a coach.

I would love to see Mutombo become a big man coach here after his player career is over. He hasn't been preaching to Yao all season since he respects the coaches.. but now he is slowly becoming what we all wanted.

Ewing: "Who wants to sex Ewing?"
Bouncer: "No sex in the champagne room, buddy."

I love DEKE! He is my favorite player on the Rox (personality-wise I mean). For some reason, I just crack up when I see him:D

I have mentioned months ago that Yao seems to be learning new things from Deke, and that he is becoming more aggressive defensively in past couple of months or so.

I think Deke should be signed for two more seasons simply to coach Yao for a couple of more years, until Yao absorbs all his defensive/rebounding knowledge.

Clearly, if you have watched the past few games, Deke has had a great deal of effect on Yao's game. For one thing, Yao has recently started to remember not to jump up when he tries to block someone, which is how he got the bulk of his fouls. He now stands his ground (which is the most important part) and just extends his arms straight up, which is more than effective way to block the opponent's vision of the basket, and deterr others from driving inside.

With Yao and Deke, there is a reason why we have the best inside defense in the league (I believe we defend the paint better than anyone else).

I would not mind seeing Deke as an assitant coach for us when he's done.

After giving Ewing his pink slip, of course...

I think that Yao always stayed in hotel and never went out was a habit he got back in China Natinal Team. The coach there always asked the players to stay in hotel the game day. They had to get permission to go out. The coach might just worry the players would be too relax or be distracted to go out but the players may end up too nervous and too tight to stay in.

Great article. I love hearing this. If Yao could become even half the defensive player Mutumbo was in his prime, we'll have one hell of a player on our hands.

Before this degenerates into another who wants to sex Mutombo thread, I just want to say:

    1. Yao rebounded great tonight--he was really getting after the ball. By which I mean, he jumped for it.

    2. The highlight of the night for me was his pick on Andre Miller. He needs to keep punishing people.

what was funny was seeing Miller plead for some recourse for what seemed like several plays. He kept holding his head when he clearly collided with Yao in the shoulder area. Maybe he hit his head on the court after Yao dropped him like a sack of bricks. Get used to it, league.
