I believe they're just going to release Griffin. So... we're paying him for nothing.

I still can't get over the fact that Mutombo is going to be in a Rockets jersey. We have finally finalized our pieces to this squad. Now bring on the season!

I could see us maybe playing Yao/Mutumbo against Rasha/TD if we had a late game stop, but even then not likely.

In fact I see us playing JH/MoT at back-up C (smaller, scoring line-up) a lot more than Deke as a 4. Deke does gives us an option for a defensive force when Yao is resting--which is important, but I don't see him getting a lot of minutes. 15MPG tops.

I don't know about you guys, but I am so ready for the season to start. Hopefully, Dieke really helps out Yao and shows him how to throw so bo's. Maybe even teach Yao the 1 finger wave he does after a block...

Neither. Yao would drop of fatigue at the 50m mark and Dikembe would trip soon after.

I think a combo of Dikembe and Yao is a necessity if opposing power forwards are just posting up Juwan and Mo with a high degree of success. There were a few times JVG had to go to Yao late in games to guard guys like Zach Randolph, Amare, and Jermaine Oneal. I'd rather see Dikembe in there as the center cleaning up the glass to make sure Yao doesn't have to expend more energy rebounding if he has to tire himself guarding the low post scorer. I could see this happening when the Rockets play the Spurs.

I could also see this happening in certain matchups.

JVG said something to the effect of Yao would have to guard Duncan when we play the spurs because no one else can. He also said something to the effect of Yao could actually guard him and his lateral quickness is not as bad as some think.

That would probably mean Tumbo on Rasho.. so that would be one matchup.

Another I can think of may be the Pistons w/ Sheed and Wallace.

    or

    Pacers w/ JOneil and whomever.

    hmmm....

    how about Randolph and whomever..

very good (hopefully not quick) low post players would have a tough time shooting over/ around Yao.

    J

    so for certain matchups sure..

"It is where I have wanted to be all along," Mutombo said Monday night. "I told them a long time ago that it was my wish, and I'm so happy that it was granted.

i hate it how allllll players say this after thay are traded. BS. hes just happy to be playing, we know he had no wish to be traded.

"Athletic" to Yao, Mutombo and Sura is similar to:

    A. "Handsome" to Sam Cassel, Troy Murphy and Ervin Johnson
    B. "Physical" to Radmanovich, Vince Carter and Pisskowski
    C. "Sharp-shooting" to Cato, Ben Wallace and AI, or
    D. "Classy" to George W. Bush, John Edwards and Karl Malone

    Which is the correct answer?

Not only do I think mutumbo could still contribute to the team. but this is also huge for the Rockets to make Yao alot better. During practice putting Mutumbo on Yao will help him improve and go out in real games and play harder against weaker centers.

Moutain Mutombo surely can teach Yao to become a better shot blocker. Mutombo is not a leaper but have a good time on the block. If Yao can reach Mutombo's blocking ability, he will be a monoster on defense.
