    Good call Rockets.

The way he is signing leftovers and drafting second rounders training camp is going to be like an NFL camp. It sure would be fun to watch these guys compete in camp this season.

I am really impressed with how Morey and RA are handling the final 5 roster spots. IMO this is where a team can become great over time and it's a far better way to build a dynasty type franchise than trying to make "SPLASH" trades every 6 mos. We are gonna need a big trade in the next year, but only because our "Stars" have not panned out due to injury and you can't win a championship with 40 million on the bench.

Another reason this impresses me is because it shows that Morey is NEVER satisfied with where we are and is constantly working. We want this from our players, it's good to see it from our GM.

The bigger question is can he get a top 10 superstar to play for the Rockets?

A four year extension is too short, Les should lock him at least for another eight years. His market value would be higher and higher each year, Les has to pay him more after first four years.

Did we also extend the contracts of the stats-crunching supercomputers and the nerds that operate them??? ;)

Oh well, even if we didn't manage 2 do so...at least we get another few years of Dork-Elvis leading us with his Dork-Elvis guile and smarts...

How is that relevant if we can win a championship with "Morey-super-stats-no-stats-all-stars???"

I am not going to temper my excitement by saying I'll wait to see what he's going to do in the future. His past actions are indications of future actions, and 95% of his past moves have been money(no pun intended). After suffering through years of mismanagement by Charlie Casserly, Tim Purpura, and Carroll Dawson, it's refreshing to have someone like Morey at the helm of a Houston professional sports team.

So happy. Must refrain from jumping up and down like a little girl and waking up my roommate in the process...

Now that Morey decided to stay, he might want to consider starting a consulting firm so he can manage the draft and signing player for Rockets, Texans, and ASTROS.. :)

Went to Tuesday 2-11 Astros game. Sad.... :(

Jonathan Feigen, known affectionately here as "the Rockets mouthpiece", comments:

Morey, however, has done something his tendency toward modesty cannot deny. He has gone from a surprise hire to a no-brainer new contract.

As much as has been made about Morey's use of statistical analysis and the team of mathematicians he hired, in many ways he has made his mark as a disciplined, even old-school decision maker.

    Another blog on Morey's resigning.

    http://nba.fanhouse.com/2009/09/25/rockets-give-daryl-morey-two-year-extension/

The biggest free agent on the market this year just got inked. Kind of. Though he wasn't going anywhere, Daryl Morey's been working without a contract since the end of last season. And today, the Houston Chronicle reports, the Rockets have finalized a deal that will keep him with the team through 2013.

So given the new timeline for Morey and his prior success, what are the odds Morey nabs an Executive of the Year award by the time his next contract is up?

This blog piece is fine, but I do not refer Feigen affectionately as the Rockets mouthpiece. He has no spine, even though he has the ability to be a good sports journalist.

As a beat writer, I think he does his job just fine (which is report what the team is doing, not editorialize).

Yeah it's not like John McClain who reports what the team is doing AND editorializes as the constant apologist to the front office.

That is what is wrong with these beat writers, they toe the company line. I remember when Landry and Buddy Baker were giving DM a hard time during the re-signing process and the beat writers were saying that Dorsey would be an adequate scoring replacement. Yes,he got injured and can dunk, but every knew that Joey could hardly keep himself on the floor because of his propensity to get in foul trouble.
