Wayne Simien, who is an undersized, decent PF but no starter. Would you rather have Udonis Haslem and Jason Williams or Rafer Alston and Wayne Simien (with no backups)?
Amen. It's become a broken record that keeps on spinning, but it's just not going to happen. Maimi knows he's good too and will not trade what they don't have a replacement for. If I were the Heat I would be going after Jarret Jack over Rafer anyway. Problem is they seem have little trade bait.
Problem #2 is no cap room. Therefore, Haslim could be traded to fill out the roster without raising their salary $s. Rafe/Hayes/Head might work for Heat, but still, the deal is most unlikely. Doleac/Simien makes enough sense for Heat and Rox for it to come together.
Only way this trade gets done is a three team deal. Miami needs to replace a PF and we need to unload some guards...maybe Miami could deal Posey or Walker to get another PF.
Antoine Walker is a PF. He doesn't have the quickness anymore (ever did?) to stay defensively with slasher SF.
We could move Head to the Pacers (Alston-->Miami), in turn the Pacers send Foster to the Heat... Posey is gone I think.
That could actually work if the Pacers are needing outside shooting. Which I think they really need now.
I will be happy with either Haslem or Foster. I am sure the Rockets will not do trade for anyone besides these two, Dolec should not even be considered by the Rockets.
Although I think Foster would not be a great replacement for Haslem cause Miami would lose Haslem's scoring. Foster doesn't put anything in the hole. Maybe a better deal would be for the Pacers to send Troy Murphy to the Heat.
salaries dont work. head's salary and foster are no where close to each other. and if anyone seriously thinks the rockets can take on contracts like posey, and walker. you are crazy
they consider him for salary relief. the nba unlike fantasy bball cant have tons of high paid stars on one team.
We are not talking about taking on Posey and Walker..rather sending Posey and Walker somewhere else as part of the deal to get Haslem.
Even in Haslem's best season as a pro, he never averaged even 11 ppg. His career average is 9.6 ppg. Even a putrid offensive player like foster could average close to that if he played as many minutes as Haslem simply by getting on the offensive glass as he does so proficiently. Several people in here seem to think Haslem is a good scorer. He is not. He had a high FG% a couple of seasons ago as do many frontcourt players who see more space offensively playing next to dominant bigs like Shaq. Haslem is, at best, a good offensive player. He is slightly better than Chuck Hayes, overall. I am not stir crazy over Haslem. He would be a fine addition but he will not end up playing in front of Scola. Foster averaged 5.9 ppg in 05-06 playing 18.8 mpg. Haslem averaged a career-high 10.9 in 33.4 mpg in 04-05. That is almost identical offensive production, with Haslem getting a slight edge which doesn't say much. There career FG%s are also nearly the same. I would take Foster over Haslem on this current Rockets' roster. Haslem won't be happy playing behind Scola, while Foster would be content backing up either frontcourt player. He is a potent reserve that can take over the glass for 10-12 mpg. Haslem would not be at peace going from a starter on a championship team a couple of years ago to riding the bench in Houston.
You criticize others about objectivity but then equate Jeff Foster offensive production with Haslem. Foster is one of the lowest P48minute offensive players in the league. He is substantially less than Hayes, who is substantially less than Haslem. Foster makes a good hustling and rebounding back-up center. That is what he is. As a power forward I'd rather have Chuck Hayes (better perimeter quickness and actually a less bad offensive player relative to Foster), and I'd rather have Haslem over Hayes. Basically Haslem is the most complete and well rounded (which is why he is a 30+MPGplayer in the league), followed by Hayes, followed by Foster. And as far as a back-up center for Yao, I'd rather have Deke over Foster. Deke is a tremendous rebounder and shot blocker for 12-15 minutes, and is a decent offensive player. I'd support a move for Foster only if Deke was not part of the picture and if he were for non value contracts (Snyder +). Personally, I'd like to see a Haslem for Alston-Hayes deal. I think it is a winner for both teams. Miami gets tougher and more athletic in two spots (and they have Walker as an offensive alternative to Hayes), Houston gets a player who can give you 30 minutes of PF play in case Scola bombs or gets in foul trouble. And yes Scola would come off the bench behind Haslem (or Hayes for that matter) until he proves himself effective and not foul prone in the NBA--both are legit concerns.
$5,500,000 Foster $5,525,000 Haslem $4,200,000 Alston $5,215,000 James Well to get someone good ya gotta give someone good. So what about Mike James for Haslem?
I would do it from the Rockets perspective, yes. But that leaves a huge 4 hole for Miami. So I think Alston + Hayes is better for the Heat. Now if the Heat could land Barnes and PJ Brown with the MLE and get James for Haslem, yes I would do that.
Haslem is a definite upgrade, but I don't think he's worth giving up James for. I would rather keep james than have haslem as a marginal upgrade.
You are betting a hell of a lot on Francis, DS. I'm not willing to trade James for Haslem. Something more than Haslem, perhaps, but I wouldn't do James for Haslem.
Considering the Rockets traded Juwan Howard for James. James doesn't have as much value as you might think.
you act like scola is a guaranteed thing....lets wait until camp before we start assuming who starts and who doesn't
