That's why I said we are overpaying if we give up Alston + Head, Head has a higher trading value than Snyder..

    1) Haslem won't be a backup if we pick him up. Haslem starts, Scola comes off the bench...both get in foul trouble?...that's why Morey still wants Hayes

    2) Landry is 6'7...not 6'9. Rockets.com should be trusted over draftexpress. Haslem has the minimum good size for a PF at 6'8.

    3) I'm with you on getting Yao a defensive/rebounding compliment. But where do you cross the line in determining how much offense you're going to sacrifice? wouldn't you want your PF next to Yao to be at least A LITTLE bit of an offensive threat? Cato and Hayes combined have an offensive threat of about 2 on a scale from 1-10 (10 being the best). Again, I have no problem if the Rockets opt towards getting a defensive and/or rebounding PF to play alongside Yao...such as Foster...but that formula seems to only get you to the 1st round of the playoffs.

    4) 100% agree with you on this...Rafer and Luther is overpaying a desperate Miami. If they don't want Rafer plus filler scrubs for Haslem/Doleac...then bring on the next contestant. Miami is out of options at the point...they're looking at Navarro! He's got to be the 5th point guard they have targeted this offseason. But I think Doleac is being offered as an asset because of his expiring contract. So the Rockets will most likely put Luther in the deal. I wouldn't, but the luxury tax bound Rocket front office just might.

Cool. Haslem would be another fine addition to our frontcourt but we are in a position, for the first time in a long time, where we can be patient. The Rockets have addressed all the major holes so far this offseason. On top of that accomplishment, they still have several players/contracts remaining with real trade value. I believe that if we wait, we can find something better than Haslem to add depth to our frontcourt.

Incorrect. Snyder actually has more than double Head's value. Snyder is set to make $2.4 million compared to Head's $1.1 due next season. Snyder is also more valuable if you look away from the numbers for the reasons I mention earlier. We would be overpaying to give up Alston/Snyder for Haslem. I am more willing to do Alston/Head for Haslem although the former would free up more cap space. I still say we move Head before we move Snyder.

That's just it: there MAY BE a more useful addition WE COULD GET. From what I'm hearing, I doubt we're gonna get Gooden, Charlie V., or David West. Kurt Thomas is old and broken-down, Murphy is slow as sin with a massive contract. M Jackson, Songaila, and Hermann just aren't the caliber of player that Haslem is, IMO. I just don't think we can do better than Haslem with what we have.

I thought Landry is 6'7" bare foot and 6'9" in NBA standard (with shoes). If he is 6'5" bare foot, then nevermine, he really is undersize..

I think the management brought in Scola with the expectation of him being our future starter, so I would hope Scola could start by the end of the season, but that just me though.. :)

I would not assume that we if did acquire Haslem that he would start over Scola. Scola will get early opportunities to show that he can quickly adjust to the NBA. This will not be an easy task given the historical facts, but it is not a foregone conclusion that Haslem would start over Scola.

Rafer, Sura, Head, and Lucas to Indy for Kwame Brown, Indy sends Tinsley and Diogu to the Lakers.

I dont want to trade Head. But if we do would yall like this trade?

Rockets send Alston, Snyder, and Head to the Heat for Udonis Haslem and Daequan Cook. I know the Rockets were impressed with Cook when he worked out for us before the draft. Cook is 6-5.

I would take Jackson, Songaila or Hermann in a heartbeat over Haslem. No, half a heartbeat.

Snyder has more book value, what I refer to was the trading value. Just like David Lee, he doesn't earn much on book, but he has a much higher trading value than Snyder.

IMO, we have too many swing mans in the team, 1/2, 2/3, 3/4, u name it.. So I would like to have a 3 point specialist in Head rather than another swingman like Snyder..

If you read what I wrote, I also addressed the intangible value in my previous 2 posts. Snyder is bigger, more athletic, can rebound, defend a number of positions and can get to the hole and finish. Head can only shoot spot-up 3-pointers. That is where it starts and ends for the undersized shooting guard, Luther Head. He will never have PG skills as he is an average ball-handler at best with poor court vision and passing skills. Whether you compare Snyder and Head by contract values or intangible value, Snyder comes out ahead. Head has too many liabilities on the defensive end, in any type of system. If you want a guy that can just stand and shoot 3s, then Novak is more than adequate. I know Novak is not a SG and he can't cover a perimeter player but neither can Head.

By the way book value is essentially trade value. And, if you are defining higher trade value by saying that Head is more desirable to more teams than Snyder, I would disagree with you equally. Head will not have a long NBA career. If he even had a chance at transforming into a PG, that would be a different story. However, this will never happen as he isn't even close to possessing the necessary skills. There is only so much a player can develop at this stage.

I did read your post.. What I was saying is that, we have too many guys that can offer what Snyder can offer, ie. Bonzi/Tmac, so we don't need Snyder as much since they have similar skill sets. And since Head offer a different skill set, so that's why I prefer Head more than Snyder.

I'd trust the Rockets' measurements over some webmaster who has never taken any measurements.

    -------------------------------------------------------------

    http://www.clutchfans.net/news/1421/for_rockets_landry_measured_up/

The big question mark is his height. Landy is listed anywhere from 6-foot-7 to 6-foot-9, the latter being what his agent is claiming that his client measured out to be at the NBA pre-draft camp.

However, Clutchfans has learned that the Rockets measurements of Landry have him at 6-8 1/2 inches in shoes. That isn't a number from pre-draft camp but rather the Rockets organization's actual physical measurements of Landry.

I thought I explain myself with the David Lee's example. For players with a rookie contract, their trading value could be higher than their "money value" ie book value. That's why even Oden isn't making $8 Mil a year, but you could still trade him to get a $8 Mil player. (package with another player of course)

I disagree with you about Head won't have a long NBA career. I think Head could follow Mobley's route and become a Robert Horry type of player at the SG spot.

Ok. My issue with Head is that even though he does possess a unique ability to hit 3-pointers and do absolutely not one single other thing even decently, his net value while on the court is a significant loss for the team. If you looked at all those new Lenovo stats from last season where the Rockets spent much of the year near the top in 3,4 and 5-man combinations , almost every one of those lists of players included some combo of Battier, Hayes, Alston, T-Mac and Yao. Head was in none of those combinations near the top. And, that stat does not require a player to play 40 mpg instead of 20 mpg to have value. It measures the team's plus/minus while the given player is on the court. Snyder is not that list either for that matter but my point here is that Head is a liability even if he ends up shooting 50% from behind the arc. I understand that he has a unique skill but that doesn't make him worth keeping unless you are only looking toward the 3pt shootout at the All-Star game. He has too many weaknesses that OUTWEIGH his only real NBA skill.

Oh my god, you have lost your mind now. Even though we think of Horry for his 3pt shooting nowadays due to recent exposure and media emphasis, he is much more than just that. Horry is, and was, a great defender among other skills. He has very high basketball IQ and makes a team better in many areas other than just hitting clutch shots. Plus, he is a BIG than can shoot 3s which adds another dimension to his effectiveness.

Mobley is also much more than just a 3pt shooter. He is/was an excellent defender with more size and athleticism than Head. He is a better ball-handler and passer by far than Head is or ever will be.

You have lost it dude. Officially. Enjoy the 3pt contest next season.
