But the other owners in the league...who fire their lame coaches that don't get them to the playoffs in 5 seasons...are not rich?

    wanna bet?

i thought they'd win 8 games this season. they'll finish below that.

i'll pick 8 wins again next season. mcnair will see it as improvement and give kubiak a 20 year extension.

    It hasn't struck you yet?

Phillips IS the replacement head coach.

I just hit myself again with a hammer.

In midseason after a 5-8 start if no lockout, most likely. Then give him 2012 also.

Well 2013 is right around the corner.....better hope the Texans can snag a new QB, WR and RB because the current crew will be aged/done/gone by then.

it's pretty hilarious really.. the people that are calling to fire Kubiak not only didn't get their wish... but got Wade Phillips as a bonus.

personally, I bet Cowher could turn this ship around a lot faster than those two. I don't think he should've have came public with his views though and worked behind the scenes instead to make some deal to come to Houston.

The worst part about this whole thing outside of the actual losses is watching AJ play for a perennial losing team. The guy deserves better.

It's the right decision. Kubiak has made our offense rock. Wade will make our defense rock solid. Smith will bring in defensive backs. And we will go to the playoffs.

this is just like the bush\VY or Mario situation all over again. "the offense will be fine, let's build up the defense" how's that working out so far?

This just shows Mcnair doesn't give a damn about winning or giving the fans something to cheer for. It's about him making money and keeping the "good ole boy".

    Makes me sick.

    doesn't Phillips run a 3-4?

Won't our defense still suck next year if we are changing schemes?

Both Kubiak and Bush have done horrible jobs, yet one only one of them is deservedly fired. What's the difference between these two men? McNair needs to think about how this looks, especially to people who don't look like him.

This is the issue to me too.
    next year. . Kubiak/Wade will coach a 13-3 team to being 9-7

Right decision ? On matters of hoops we agree bigtime.

But in this case .....Kubiak should have been gone a year and a half ago.I thought at the time perhaps Bob was waiting on Cowher w/the cancer situation with his wife and that he wanted to wait until the end of the year. But he gives Kubiak am extension and now this
He has a history of making games close that shouldn't be and losing tight contests. This has further deteriorated into flat out getting our ass kicked at times. The team comes out unprepared and the ingame decisions are atrocious.
This has been on Bob for too long......Again, With Cowher and Gruden out there this shows an ineptitude / Good ole Boys network run amok that is beyond unacceptable.
I was an Oilersfan and waited a long time for this? As far as I'm concerned the Texans have joined the Astros in limbo. While I have counted the days until Drayton sells for years, at least the time is at hand. Sadly the man who brought the NFLback to Houston now occupies the top wrung now and my emotional invesptment wanes as the Texans are a rudderless ship of fools adrift.

    Dear Unca Bob Adams,
When you fix the defense . . . you are correct . . other teams won't be up 3 touchdowns on you. I would like to point out that . . when other teams are not up 3 touchdowns on you . . the defenses don't relax and allow your offense to look all world by making monster comebacks either.

    Sincerely,
    Rocket River

Once the Defense is fix . . .the GLARING Offensive weaknesses will be completely exposed. The Defense is a Joke. . the Offense is a Fraud!!!!
    It is not Schaub's fault.
It is not Andre Johnson's Fault.
It is not Arian Foster's Fault.
    It is not Rackers' Fault.
It is not Jacoby Jones' Fault . . . ok maybe a lil bit.
It is not Owen Daniel's Fault.

IT IS THE DENNY'S MENU Holder's Fault!!!!

I know -- I really thought the first lines of the OP article were from The Onion.

As much as people are barking about Kubiak, Phillips is a terrible choice. It's like when you're combining monsters to fight Godzilla, you get a three-headed dragon and a kick-ass robot who shoots his fingers off as missiles, and then the fingers even reload.

But no, this is like you were failing versus Godzilla using a giant, lame arvark thing, so you recruit bambi to help.

You people are just not smart enough to use McNair's super awesome "should've, could've, would've win-loss record".

This is how McNair/Kubiak record system works.

    1. A good win is a win.
    2. A narrow, fluky, opponent failed horribly type of a win is a win.
    3. A narrow, fluky, we failed horribly type of a loss is a win.
    4. A narrow loss where we came back to almost tie it is a win.
    5. A loss where we failed hard but seemed to have outplayed the opponent is a win.
    6. A loss where we get pounded is a loss - but not really relevant because "those things happen".

So as you can see, the Texans last year was easily a playoff team, as the year before, and this year too. The fact that they haven't been to the playoffs is not a sign that they suck, but rather the should've, could've, would've win-loss record has not yet translated into REAL win-loss record. But one of these years, and keep in mind that monkeys can type the entire hamlet given an eternity, everything will go the Texans way and the should've, could've, would've win-loss record will look the same as their actual standing.

depressing. how sad for someone like Andre Johnson.

maybe the texans make a free-agent splash this year? Unlikely given their track record, so that doesn't seem to be reason for optimism.

Can someone tell me about wade phillips proven track record? Does he have the resume to back this or did he rely on other people? Dallas's defense didn't strike me as a shutdown defense any of the years he was there, and that's with jerry jones willing to pay for the talent. I didn't know much about wade before that so maybe he did so in previous gigs as teh defensive coordinator?

Wow, does bizarro Jonathan Winters have some strength shoes or do the parachute sprint training? I bet he could dunk on a 7 or 8 foot goal.
