Ultimately, those that make the coaching changes control their own destiny anyways. I full expect the owners to start giving the players a little budge soon. They don't want to lose money, just like the players don't want to lose pay.

Especially when we're looking at this many coaching changes, the owners will give in.

It's driving me crazy that the Houston media is enabling Bob McNair with the consistent use of the lockout excuse as being a logical reason to not make a coaching change.

We seem to be the only market that's so afraid of the lockout that we are willing to keep a failed head coach. The media here is a joke.

There is always going to be a "reason" why it doesn't make sense to fire your head coach.

For those of you that think like McNair, that a new head coach would set the team back 2 years or more:

Ask New Orleans how that went with Payton taking the team to the playoffs in his first season after finishing 3-13 the previous year.

Ask Baltimore how that went with John Harbaugh taking them to the playoffs his first season after finishing 5-11 the previous year.

Ask the Jets how that went when Mangini took over and took them to the playoffs his first season after finishing 4-12 the previous season.

Ask Atlanta how that went with Mike Smith taking them to the playoffs his first season after finishing 4-12 the previous year.

Ask Miami how that went with Tony Sporano taking them to the playoffs his first season after finishing 1-15 the previous year.

Ask Pittsburgh how that went with Mike Tomlin taking them to the playoffs his first season after finishing 8-8 the previous year.

There are many other examples of first time coaches going to the playoffs in their second season as well.

Point being - the myth that a new coach sets the team back 2 years or more is just that - a myth.

I know this has been posted before, but I can't find it.

How many teams have gone from 6 wins or less to the playoffs since 2006?

How many teams have hired a new coach since 2006 and been to the playoffs?

There are plenty of "myths" going around that will make the Texans continue to be mired in mediocrity. My favorite is the part where Kubiak is this "offensive guru" and that firing him will set the offense back. Or how about when the Texans are giving the Kubiak his sixth season when every other team would have fired him by year 3 or 4.

Tell that to Tampa after firing the head coach and bringing in Jon Gruden(or heck this year with Morris - yes not his first year but has won more games than Kubes ever has as a HC). Sometimes the players just aren't getting it done for the coach. Change of scenery from their perspective to a new head guy can change attitudes quick.

I am over it, HORRIBLE decision but so be it. Try not to screw up the DC hire, give that guy control of the defensive side of the ball much like Buddy Ryan had with the Oilers and let him draft/sign FAgents that are HIS type of players not McNair's type. I see 9-7 tops next season, unless Kubiak improves himself but after 5 years, doubt that happens.

Not unexpected but it still pisses me off that it's official. Bob McNair is "officially" on my **** list.

RT @JeromeSolomon McNair allowed Kubiak to hire DC without interviews last time. Rick Smith was against that.

What the hell is Smith good for then?

What does it matter if he interviews people if he has control over who he hires anyway?

This situation sucks so bad. It would have been one thing if he was being neutered somewhat and a "head coach of the defense" was being brought in, but now Kubiak gets to hire his defensive coordinator himself?

    Geez

Indeed but why keep Smith on as GM then? To be honest, I would be somewhat okay with Kubes staying on if they had brought in a quality GM to make that call, having Smith bascially bend over and take it from Kubiak over and over fustrates the hell out of me.

Not happy. As far as angering Texans fans, McNair can fall back to the Williams/Bush/VY draft when he gave the approval to draft Williams. That was an extremely unpopular decision and most people now think the Texans got the right player of those 3 despite the fan reaction in 2006.

The biggest question I have is does Gary Kubiak even know HIMSELF what he does wrong as a coach?? Has he improved even ONE iota since his started his tenure here?? To me, he STILL makes the same baffling decisions when it comes to game management, play calling, and clock management. Unless the light bulb manages to turn on, and STAY ON for the duration of his career, he is simply going to be a mediocre coach wherever he goes. Unless there is a bevy of things he does behind the scenes that we just simply DO NOT SEE, I just don't get the love connection.

Also, is anybody else REALLY getting tired of the players parading behind him saying, "He gets our back, so we'll get his!"?? There is such a lack of accountability with this team that it's no wonder every unmotivated, lackluster player comes running to Kubiak's defense. Guys like Eric Winston and Bernard Pollard would have been REAMED by any other coach for the way they played this season, but Kubiak just simply says, "The guys are out there workin....battlin....gotta love the way they fight", so OF COURSE the players are gonna love him. This team is such a complacent, apathetic group of yes-men that it's absolutely maddening.

It's my impression that Smith, up until now, worked underneath Kubiak. Puppet GM. I want this guy, make it happen.

I *believe* that Smith has grown increasingly resistant to Kubiak's wishes/wants and has made a power play these last two months.

I *think* going forward that Kubiak will have diminished say in personnel and staffing.
