I’ve been calling for them to fire Kubiak for months. I think Rick Smith has been an even bigger failure and I’ve been calling for his job even longer.

I think far too many people are failing to see, through their haze of anger, that I’m not relating my perspective on what should happen; I’m choosing to look at this from what seems like the most likely starting point: Kubiak is being brought back. Once again, that is not the direction I would go. But it’s not my decision.

So how do you make it work? Can you? Firing Frank Bush and bringing in a top-notch, non-Denver defensive coordinator is absolutely, positively a step in the right direction. If you don’t think this team is better with Wade Phillips (not my fist choice) than they are with Frank Bush, you are, WADR, insane.

And I think – *think* – if they can correct the historically bad defense, some of the issues we’re having on offense will work themselves out. Again, it is not my preferred direction. But I don’t think it’s the worst plan they could unveil.

I mean – help me out here: Am I offering some insanely crazy perspective?

I didn't actually mention Wade Phillips. My choice all along has been Marv Lewis (for defensive coordinator). I do think it’s going to be a rocky transition, undoubtedly, because they don’t have near the personnel to run a 3-4 – but they don’t have the personnel to run a 4-3, either, so…

Yeah, without coming out and actually saying it, he said Kubiak will be back. Bush and Gibbs likely gone.

Mcnair just isn't answering any questions and basically kept saying "we are going to evaluate the situation."
Bob Allens asked who "we" were?
Mcnair said basically the "We" is him, Kubiak and Smith.

He did admit the major problem was defense...basically he..without saying it...is going to keep Kubiak. Allen kinda laughed at him when he figured it out.

    It's just annoying.

Basically stated that replacing a head coach is "traumatic" and can set a team back 2 years. Offense is Top 5 and defense is bottom 5 so obviously defense is the problem. Wants to be able to isolate the problem and fix it without it being traumatic and setting your team back 2 years (said this multiple times).

Kubiak is gonna be back and we'll bring in a new DC.

He can be honmest to his football loyals...the ones watching the show. Either come on and tell us something concrete...or skip the show and do the typical news conference. McNair is too much a politician.

I think "p***y" is a little strong...especially since we wouldn't even have a team to be pissed off about if it wasn't for McNair.

Kubiak was the only one of those 3 that was established. I believe McDaniels was OC for a single season and Singletary was never a DC

yeah I really can't see an owner go on a TV show and announce "Well to answer your question, I've decided to fire my head coach..."

not that it wouldn't be nice to hear though

    Kubiak

    Feelings after this season?

Frustration. Been tough. Lost a lot of tough games. Didnt lose them getting blown out or lack of effort but didnt make the plays. Proud of the effort today.

This had to be a taxing year.

Toughest one I been through. Been to Super Bowls and had other end of stick too. Team had problems but played through it and had our chances but didnt get over the hump.

What have you learned as a coach?

What I've already known. This is a tough ass business.

    Think you'll be back?

I dont know. I said I want to enjoy coaching today and get some sleep tonight. We'll talk tomorrow.

    McNair:

First question, will Kubiak be back?

We'll be talking tomorrow. Once that is done, we'll make our decisions.

You havent made up your mind?

Havent finished the process. We look at players, coaches, GM, scout. We started discussions with Gary but havent concluded.

Written in the paper that a decision has been made. Anything to Wade Phillips rumor?

Not my decision. Someone elses decision. We havent made a decision.

You dont know about any changes?

No. We dont make decisions until we analyze everything. When we conclude, I'll make a deicison.

    This week?

    Yes

    As soon as tomorrow?

We have to look at coaches, players and personnel. We do those things one at a time. We'll get done with coaches first. Then players. Then personnel from what we've done with scouts and draft, etc.

When you say we, your GM under scrutiny too. Who is we?

Depends on what we're talking about. Talking about evaluatining team, we're talking to coaches with me and Cal. When looking at scouting, same thing there. Even people we are evalutationg, they participate.

    Possible lockout have any effect?

No I dont think so. People ask about it and say what are you gonna do. You have to identify the problem. Didnt perform the way we wanted to. I'm upset about it. We have to find the basis or cause for the record. Until you do that, you cant solve it. You identify the problem. Find where you fall short and then find your options. You can replace everyone. Doing that is tramatic. New coaches wanna replace all the players and everyone. If there is no other recourse than to tear down everything, if you have to do that, you do it. If you can isolate it and not severe, you find what is needed.

Reading between the lines, Gary will be back.

We'll evaluate it. Dont need to be a football expert to determine on O, we'll be a top 5 teams. On D, a bottom 5 team. How can we solve this problem with success in shortest time? Thats how you deal with it.

    We're disappointed. We wont quit.

I guess I'm in the minority, but I'm more pissed that there might be a work stoppage. The possibility of there not being NFL football in 2011 is pretty depressing.

So odds are in our favor for the next one??? I'd rather take Cowher or Gruden or Dungy but if those aren't interested/available gimme a solid Coordinator who will be able to get the most out of his guys.

Kubes took a 10 win team last year and coached them down to 8 wins with a lucky break catching NE at the end of the year. He took a 10-11 win team this year and coached them down to 6 wins.
