hmmm... please Daryl don't let this affect resigning chuck!! http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/7595977.html Also wanted to add... I know I said I wasn't thrilled with McHale and would reserve judgement until he has his full staff in place... this is why. It drives me crazy when Clyde's commentary is repeatedly "they have to double team that"... McHale spent a lot of time on broadcasts saying the same thing... like he repeated "protect the paint" here.
As much as I love the Chuckwagon, having two shotblocking centers on this team would be amazing and something we've been deprived of far too long.
Having two shotblocking centers is something EVERY team in the NBA would like to have... and no team has them. I'm not worried about that.. I'm more worried that they won't want to offer Chuck more than a 1-2 year contract because of how McHale wants to change the dynamics of the offense/defense in the long run.
Remember that argument between McHale and Thibodeau? I'm pretty sure Daryl said Thibs was taking the side of Chuck Hayes and McHale the other... EEK!
Well, initially i say i didn't like McHale as coach based on is record. But it looks like he is a smart coach and understand the game situation better than anybody in the game...so i am impressed with that.....lets' see what happened next year.
Chuck Hayes work best with a 2-way center. He can't guard the paint himself, so an offensive-oriented center/power forward would result in last year's problems. A defensive oriented center means our entire offense would revolve around perimeter jumpshots. Not that it's not feasible, but we don't have that superstar perimeter guy to make it work. Yet another case of had-Yao-Ming-stayed-healthy, Chucky would be awesome. Now, I'm afraid nothing short of Bogut/Dwight Howard would make a good fit here as a starter.
I am starting to love this guy more and more !! Hopefully this will make Morey work harder on getting another 7 footer through trade. I love Chuck as much as the next but if he's the one that would leave in a trade for a good center, that's it. By the way, we had two shot blocking centers in Yao & Mutombo. Let's hope Thabeet progresses and Yao will come back. Can you imagine a 7'6 / 7'3 Center combo
This makes me believe that the rockets are truly going after a better pick to draft kanter. Mchale must be giddy thinking about that prospect. Regarding chuck wagon, I think he's definitely coming back. Hes a fan favorite and Mchale seems to want to key on improving defense. Getting rid of the best defender on the roster won't help that cause.
I'm sure every coach thinks the Chuckwagon is a scrub until he watches him play up close, day in and day out. Don't worry Hayesfan, McHale will come around, just like Adelman did.
For the 1,552,456th time ob this board, Chuck is not a center, and it is not fair to weigh his value against that of other centers. It's like if Kevin Martin was forced to play point guard for two seasons due to the injury of others (knock on wood) then saying get rid of him, completely off the roster because we need a pass First point guard. Chuck will "thrive" back at his natural PF position, and I think a lot of people a lot smarter than all of us know that as well.
I agree 100%. First off Chuck is a power forward playing out of position. But besides that, I thought McHale was saying to keep people out of the paint; "no straight-line drives, blow-bys". Chuck does that. I have said this many times, it is not the 7 footers dunking over Chuck that is our problem, it is the 6 foot guards going to the rim and there is NOBODY there. That is not a Chuck is too short problem, that is a coaching problem that decided to rotate/take him out of the paint. I took the comment "an ideal team would be two 7-foot guys that can flat-out block shots, rebound and score in the paint" to be a sarcastic comment. The " When you find those guys, let me know", was the hint. When did they stop teaching about sarcasm in school. I swear nobody under the age of about 40 can recognize it anymore. Me, I loved everything McHale said in that article.
