Probably the smartest thing McHale has done if indeed he actually pulled that off. Royce is going to be a good player.
He's out of shape - really out of shape. But his skills are amazing. And he was definitely athletic enough when in college. Now that the mental health issues seem resolved I think he'll get in shape and be a pretty damn good player. I know I'm WAY in the minority on this. But skills and size like his are really rare. Court vision is amazing and he has the ability to get the passes off. Nice post moves and touch.
Wow, wish I had search capabilities. Love to read some of your other 450 messages over the last two months.
I dunno, I guess I just don't see the benefit of a pass only PF who can't score, and can barely play a D league game without fouling out.
Oh, so did McHale call Morey up in the middle of the night to cry on his shoulder? McHale, get with the program. Morey can institute a revolving door of coaches as well. Adelman publicly complained and look where it got him.
Sounds like McHale's just blowing off a little steam. All coaches bristle after a big trade that sends off a player they rely on. Adelman, JVG were the same. IMHO McHale has been the most accommodating of the bunch. Frankly, I 'd be more disappointed if he had just kept quiet and toed the Dork Elvis line.
I don't think so. McHale and Morey have different jobs and motivations. McHale is a head coach and he is worried about the right now and winning at all costs. It is the reason Patterson and Morris played as much as they did. Morey on the other hand is motivated long term and knew Patterson and Morris were mediocre and stifling the development of other players. The tension is healthy and natural. Morey and McHale have had a good relationship for over a decade. McHale knows he is not the GM and does not and will not try to usurp the GM's role like Adelman did.
"I know, right? Trading a solid starter for an unproven backup - during a playoff run, no less- is just idiotic." - Rafer Alston "Preach, brother. I should never have been in Houston - damn Daryl and his 'big-picture' moves" - Kyle Lowry "I can't believe they just gave Kyle away without a solid backup plan" - Raptors lottery pick "I firmly apologize for disrupting your preseason momentum, but thank you for giving me a chance" - James Harden
Going from a non-relevant team in the beginning of the season, the team AND coach worked hard to get in the spot where they are. Major moves like trading a starter and a few other major pieces does cause issues. McHale is trying to hang on to the playoff position and this makes things very tricky. You seriously can't blame the coach for being a little upset. He was playful sarcastic like he always his also. I'm not sure it was the best thing to say but you are being way too harsh IMO.
You've seriously posted this same thing like in 5 or so different threads. Isn't there a rule against that or something?
He's out of shape because he didn't keep himself in shape. Think about what that says about his drive and motivation to play this game. His physical qualities and basketball skills are rare. But in the NBA, the lack of interest in the game is equally as rare.
"I don't know what coach is supposed to do with me." - Hasheem Thabeet "I am much more valuable than a stinky protected 1st round pick." - Terrence Williams "There is a reason why I was a 6th overall pick and has a guaranteed contract. Definitely keep me over some undrafted dude with no guaranteed money." -Jonny Flynn "I am not a bad rookie." - Jordan Hill "I am Ray Lewis with a basketball." -Joey Dorsey "I was in 'Gunning for that No. 1 Spot ' and that light skinned French kid ain't " - Donte Greene "I am Melo with defense." - Marcus Morris "I like playing basketball. I am thankful to Morey for drafting me." - Royce White
When you aren't good, or hovering around .500, shouldn't you have turnover? I've never understood the complaining about Morey trading players when the ones already here aren't improving the team. I'm sure if we started winning championships, Morey wouldn't be as trade happy.
You are wrong. The owner of the team is also one of the people judging the coach in how he's performing. The owner has proven to be anything BUT reasonable while terminating the last 3 coaches prior to McHale. Adelman actually wanted to come BACK after all the crap he endured. Morey would have loved to have him. The problem was the owner. So don't blame McHale for being protective of his job here.
He has had 1 legitimate year of coaching... and he missed the playoffs by a couple games due to the fact that Kyle Lowry came back and blew up our team chemistry. He almost brought a team back in to the playoffs after firing Flip Saunders and going 19-12 to miss the playoffs by a game or two. So if he coaches this team in to the playoffs this year, he will be vindicated by you and this board? Obviously not, so why act like that is the lynch pin to your argument?
Morey said that we had a good core of young players and he would not be as aggressive in seeking trades this year unless he could get the second star. Well, that's some smokescreen alright.
