Seriously, you guys worry way too much. Calculated risks are good risks... We only have to win 2 games out of the next 5 to secure HCA, and 3 out of the next 5 opponents aren't even +500 teams. AND this is assuming POR wins OUT their last 4 games, 2 of which are against GSW and LAC... And before you guys whine about the "oh but LAC may not be trying anymore" bit, you can say the same thing for our opponents. Minny is out and SAS might rest also by that point as they may be a lock for #1 seed then (they only need to win 2 more games to secure HCA, assuming OKC even wins out).
Perhaps limit minutes until we clinch, then stagger a day off for different guys. Parsons needs it the most IMO. He has looked rather run down in the 2nd half of the season. Perhaps his back is still an issue.
Minny may be mathematically eliminated, but suddenly the lack of pressure has made them a better team. They beat the Heat in Miami the other night and they destroyed the Spurs yesterday. And as for San Antonio, they looked like they had home court all wrapped up, but with Parker out for at least a couple games, OKC could be breathing down their necks when that game next Monday against the Rockets rolls around. All I'm saying is, don't assume anything. Just take care of business and let the other teams' chips fall where they may.
Doesn't the league penalise teams for resting uninjured players? Like several seasons ago I think, the Spurs rested all their starters...
This. I would rather be clicking on all cylinders for the playoffs instead of being out of whack due to the rotations being all different etc. We should at least have all the starters (including D12 and Bev) together for the last 2 games or whenever they're ready to re-establish that cohesiveness they had before those 2 went down. We saw how disjointed they looked when the 3 starters were out.
ACCORDING TO ROTOWIRE JEREMY LIN, CHANDLER PARSONS, TERRENCE JONES AND JAMES HARDEN ALL MIGHT BE RESTING TONIGHT HERE'S THE LINK: http://www.rotowire.com/basketball/latestnews.htm
Broken caps lock? Also, that page redirects to the Chron.com page that started this thread. http://blog.chron.com/ultimaterockets/2014/04/after-calling-up-troy-daniels-robert-covington-rockets-may-rest-regulars/ It's basically a foregone conclusion that McHale will rest Parsons and Harden. I would bet money on Lin playing, given that he has not played nearly as many minutes, he is a 6th man and not a starter, and we lack PG/SG depth.
This is conjecture. The source (Chron) only says the following... http://blog.chron.com/ultimaterocke...s-robert-covington-rockets-may-rest-regulars/ Note that McHale does not say WHO he is going to rest. So yes, it could be any and all of the above, but I find it's a stretch to think he'll rest all of them ala the Pacers.
He seems extremely noncommital about whether he's going to rest them anyway -- he's just talking philosophy. Personally I'd like to see them at least rest Parsons.
I'm assuming he's talking about Harden and Parsons and to a certain extent, Jones. Asik and Lin won't be rested because they need the minutes to tune up so they don't count in his "key" statement for starters.
McHale needs to CLINCH the 4th seed before he opens his mouth about rest. This is the same man that had us in the playoffs one year and then crawling out of the 9th seed because of 6 losses in a row. This is the same guy and team that ended up as the 8th seed last year, when we could have been the 6th with some better preparation. Don't talk to me about rest until you clinch Home Court. If you lose one or two and Portland wins out...what will be the excuse this time? The ball wasn't poppin? Anyway, I am THRILLED that we are in the post-season, but an all-aout rest is not appropriate right now. Limited minutes is cool, but please Chris Finch, don't let us get McHaled!
Who's to say... But I wouldn't mind seeing Lin's minutes get limited "so he can rest" and let that sharp shooting rookie on the court more so he can have his confidence built up by the time the playoffs start just in case. Beverley may not be 100% and or may be rusty and Lin's playoff track record isn't that great so they may need him.
It certainly would be following precedence. The Pacers are sitting out all of their starters tonight. http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/10756951/indiana-pacers-sit-all-five-starters-milwaukee-bucks
Win the next two games, cut Harden and Parsons down to about 20 minutes a game and bring Dwight and Beverly back also at about 20 minutes and roll into the playoffs with a rested, rust free core and HCA.
This was just posted on the Twitter: "RT @JasonCFriedman: McHale says Howard and Beverley will not play tonight. Same starting five again vs Denver."
