That's true to a certain extent. The higher you jump before releasing the ball, the more you rely on arm strength. In the past, McGrady would simply elevate high above his man and release:

If you noticed his perimeter jumpers last year, they generally had noticeably less elevation on them. That's why the stats for 07-08 and 08-09 aren't truly comparable.

I do hate the fact that McGrady had the potential to be one of the GOATs and didn't come even remotely close to fulfilling it.

Also, I've never questioned his mid-range game. I know he had one of the best. It's his perimeter game that I've been talking about.

Which would be an absolute true statement if his percentages went down due to his lack of elevation, but it didnt, it went up which says something else changed allowing him to get more open looks???

Could it be that they had another perimeter player worthy of a double team in Artest so they couldnt swarm him?

Could it be that he finally had a group of players around him that werent one dimensional like Luther Head?

Don't you think thats a little more likely than he became a better shooter because he didnt jump as much?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in the past, when McGrady took a jumper, he would begin his release motions at the apex of his jump. In other words, he would elevate, hang, and then shoot. Not only does this take his legs out of the equation, but its an unnatural form. IMO, when shooting jump shots, most shooters actually release when they reach the apex of their jump.

Due to his knee injury, his elevation decreased. Maybe its b/c he didn't have the separation from defenders anymore and needed a quicker release, but for whatever reason, he started releasing the ball at the apex of his jump.

No. Opposing teams did rarely doubled Artest (if at all).

How can his teammates affect his shooting mechanics?

    No.

If you don't understand how the quality of your teamates dictates how many open looks you get, all I can say is watch the game more. You seem to focus on how a player plays by whether or not the ball goes in the basket and not by how defenses react to certain players and certain scenarios.

You're totally misunderstanding everything I said. I understand your point, but it's irrelevant. I'm talking about shooting mechanics and you're somehow trying to warp that into a discussion about teammates.

In your opinion, was there a change in his shooting form from last season and the preceding seasons?

His shot looks identical except for a lack of elevation.

So I guess by your logic Artest was also injured. Seeing as how his career average is .342, he jumped to .4. Clearly not because of quality of teammates.

    You finally see my point.

Wow. You've made so many errors in these two statements I have to wonder if you're purposely being an idiot just to see how much of my time you can waste.

First of all, career numbers are irrelevant. The most relevant season would be 07-08, the prior season. In that season, he shot 38% from the 3 pt line. That means his 3 pt fg% increased by 2%

Secondly, if you insist on using career numbers, even though they're irrelevant, then you should at least calculate them correctly. At the end of the 07-08 season, his career 3 pt% was 32.9%. After the 08-09 season, it was 34.2%. The change in percentage was 1.3%.

Thirdly, my logic dealt with changes in shooting form causing changes in shooting percentages. This is different than assuming a player must have been injured just b/c his shooting percentage changed.

    Heres an example:

Assume that when it rains, the dog barks.

Now assume that the dog is barking.

    Tell me....is it raining?

Wow, took you long enough to take the bait jeez.

Assume that when someone rehabs properly after a certain surgery it typically takes x amount of time to recover.

Now assume it takes someone longer than x to recover from surgery.

Tell me....does it mean they didnt rehab properly?

Funny how your logic only applies some of the time.

It depends on the length of time that the rehab exceeds "x". If its a few weeks, no. If it's 4 months, yes.

^ Also assuming we're talking about minor arthroscopic surgery.

Sorry, but in your logical argument, you're premise has variables (the amount of time that actual rehab time exceeds expected rehab time). That shouldn't be happening. For deductive inferences, the premise must be absolute.

Variable = if argument supports Wekkos hypothesis then truth, otherwise false lol.

I respect your persistance friend, but you have convinced yourself that McGrady is the root of all evil. Any data you or I pull up, you will invariably incriminate him in your mind. Its called a self fullfilling prophecy.

You really don't have to look past anything other than winning % with McGrady vs. winning % w/o.

In the begining we never won games without him in the lineup. As we added talent, the winning % w/o went up. Unfortunatley as that % went up, his games played went down b/c of health. The difference between us is you see this climb as a reason to ditch him, while I see it as a sign of hope that with him AND all our great new talent, we may finally have what it takes to put us over the top.

Theres really no reason to continue this, we just disagree. You can believe whatever you want, thats your right. If you think he has to shoot 40% from three to be worth it, thats fine, I don't. All I ask is that you label what you beleive as opinion and stop trying to play it off as fact, I think that is fair.

    Go Rockets!

    Stopped reading after this.

My criticism of your logical statement regarding the variable (length of time between expected rehab and actual rehab for arthroscopic surgery) in your premise....do you agree or disagree?

To be fair, his body betrayed him after he played fantastic basketball in the early to mid 2000's. You try playing with a ****ed up back. Then try playing after experiencing intense back spasms. Have you even had back troubles? They are not fun and are extremely hard to come back from, mentally and physically.

He had to work his butt off to get his handles and his offensive repertoire. I don't think you can question his ethic to be the best. He was arguably the best in 02-03 (perimeter player). I don't like that, no, I hate that he isn't the same guy he was all those years ago (and he never will be), but I can understand that kind of breakdown given how things spun out of control and he couldn't do anything about it.

i really see no need in asking mcgrady to change his playing style after a season where he was hurt. I also thing this whole post up game is overblown. Why does a shooting gaurd need to fully develop a post up game. mcgrady already has a decent enough post up game, however where he gets the ball its pretty difficult to try and get into position for that and how often is mcgrady gonna find himself with a very undersized defender on him. The amount of times it happens i see him try and post the guy up. even when mcgrady finds a defender half his size its usually because they exploited a mismatch, not because the other team had plans on that guy stopping t-mac.
