did you see the pre-season game? dude looked to shoot the ball basically every damn time v. the celtics. at least we know he isn't going to defer in terms of scoring. and once again, don't you remember what happened last year with the knee? everyone on this board basically indicted him for not coming back early with the knee. well what happened next? he worsened it so it required surgery. carl landry is 10 years younger and probably would take longer if he had this knee surgery (he took longer last yr on the same injury coming back). the guy knows his body. he's always been right regarding it.
Come on.....he had arthoscopic surgery, a few small things cleared out of his knee....some loose debris....in MAY...... I know people that have had the same surgery and were back playing basketball within 2 weeks. I am not saying be cautious, but unless he needs more surgery....5 months is more than ample time to recover from such a minor procedure. To me this sounds a lot like Tmac being Tmac......you know...exagerating...he is a little like Peter crying wolf. DD
He was saying a few weeks ago that the knee was fine and then after the celtics game he was saying how good it felt to get up and down the court and blah blah blah. Now all of sudden he isn't ready,But earlier this summer after both surgeries he said the shoulder was the problem and the knee wasn't the issue now he's saying the shoulder issue has some how gone away because he stop lifting weights but intially the doctors told him the shoulder thang was something that was going to annoy him but he could play through it.
While I agree that McGrady has his mental ups and downs, I seriously doubt this is just a matter of him being out of shape. If that were the case he would have started playing by now. Lack of confidence in the knee? That seems much more likely. It's frustrating as hell, but there is still a long time before the regular season starts, and better to take a couple games off now rather than later anyway.
actually, BEFORE the celtics game and after shootaround, tracy said he still felt lingering pain in his knee. he said it was good to get up and down b/c he finally played with some contact and with his teammates. AFTER the game, he said he still felt some pain. that's why he hasn't played since. he wants to play with ZERO pain. tracy's mood is part of it, but if he still feels pain, there's no way you let your best player go out there. remember when yao "felt some pain" last yr and it ended up being an season-ending injury.
They made great points and just like I said in the post about the room you want to get,Tracy was saying that the knee was fine and that the shoulder issue was the one taht was going to nag him bvut he could play through it but some how the shoulder thing has gone away because he stop lifting weights and now it's the knee that's giving him problems.
Well, Tmac, Rafer and Shane all had arthoscopic surgery this offseason. Now only Rafer is doing OK. Both Shane and Tmac are having some sort of set back. If arthoscopic surgeries are really minor procedures as you suggested, I really start to believe that we need new team doctors.
My knee is about 75, 80 percent right now," McGrady, 29, said. "It took longer than expected. I was expecting to recover 100 percent in four months, but the doctor told me it would be six months or even more. My shoulder had, after surgery, kept bothering me. I had another MRI and discovered I have arthritis in there, so I have to have surgery again on my shoulder. That's something I have to deal with again this season, but my knee should be ready by opening night (Oct. 29)." Now they are saying in these quotes he has arthritis with his shoulder but just the other day he said that the shoulder issue stopped because he stopped lifting weights. So now the knee is nagging and there is no more arthritic shoulder
They told tracy is shoudler was arthritic but now the arthritic condition has vanished because tracy stopped lifting weights.
Playing through pain is part of the game. Do you realize how many players have minor injuries that they play through? If Tmac only wants to play when he's 100% pain-free, we need to get rid of him. This guy might be the most injury prone player I've ever seen (back, knee, shoulder). And I think its safe to say that no one is worried about Tmac training so hard that he breaks his own bones.
McGrady has proven that he'll play through pain. He's been doing it through huge chunks of the regular season and playoffs the last couple years. There's nothing wrong with him being extra cautious at the start of the season. And I'd wager that you'd be among the first to criticize him if he decided to play hurt and only made the injury worse.
