yeah i had him on my fantasy team one year and i think i remember often thinking he'd finish with a 30-40 pt game because he was doing so well early, but he'd just get around his average....i'd love to see some real numbers on this though to see if it's really true.... right now it's hard to argue against several fans who have followed him closesly (hopefully)
And who do you think teams were trying to stop late in games on the Sacramento Kings? It's not like there were a whole lot of options.
This is Sacramento, right? Aren't the Kings usually on the wrong end of a 20 point deficit by the fourth quarter of most games?
If the coaches had made it clear to Martin that we're resting you in the 4th to prepare you for regular season, I'm sure he wouldn't complain. But the coaches said the Dallas game would use regular season rotation and 6 min left in the 4th, you've got Yao, Scola, Battier, Brooks in but no Martin, then Martin had every right to complain. Especially after that stupid amateurish loss. I don't know about you but Lee still hasn't proved to me he deserves to play in the endgame of close matches. After the game while everyone was leaving the court, didn't Bill and Matt say Martin was still asking the game officials if there was time left? He wants to win every game, preseason or not; that's a professional attitude. Look how frustrated we felt after the game. Not a confidence-booster at all, and with Rockets management still trying to get people to buy tickets to watch the games, DM would start asking questions too.
Honestly, I think the quote is being interpreted, although it's hard to tell without any context. It makes more sense that he's saying that the starters need to work on playing with each other in the fourth quarter, since that's what they'll be doing in the regular season. And they haven't worked on that at all, he'd rather they'd done that and spent less time mucking about with rookie lineups.
I agree, this is good. But the same guys in here who were roasting Brooks (and Tmac) for complaining to the media seem to have absolutely nothing to say about Martin doing the exact same thing. Why does Martin get a pass?
I'm pretty sure he has absolutely no concerns about whether or not his minutes in the 4th will be upped during the regular season. We all know they will be. I do think he's completely right, though. Preseason was the opportune time to work on getting better as a team in key situations, and he never even saw the court in the 4th. But Adelman is an experienced coach that has been there, done that, so I'm sure he has a pretty good idea of what he is doing.
It's the way the players are. Martin is hungry and only wants to get better. He's stronger, a better 3 point shooter, and has become a much better defender. I don't believe he'll be the person getting 1.5+ steals a night with the new way he's been playing defense, but he is rotating better and staying in front of his man. If the game wasn't close, he wouldn't have cared if he was in. It wasn't about his minutes, it was about him not being in during crunch time I absolutely love Kevin Martin even more for saying that, because minutes aren't his biggest concern, stepping up to the plate during crunch time is, and for someone not known as a closer, this is a huge development Maybe he finally is getting the killer instinct that everyone seems to want from a player around here.
Too many people that need to play..... Our swing man rotation is one too mancy. Shane Chase Martin Lee We only have time for 3.........otherwise you are limiting the others from performing at thier top level. Someone has to sit.....IMO. DD
If we have a injury the problem goes away but for obvious reasons we dont want that. We need to Trade Shane and Courtney for a starting 3 guard who is a legitimate 2 way player. Some one in the mold of Stephen Jackson , Iggy or even Deng. They problem is that those players mentioned above have long contracts for hefty sums Deng - $11,345,000 (4 years left) Jackson - $8,453,250 (3 years left) Iggy - $12,345,250 (4 years left) Jackson is the cheapest but also the oldest and craziest. Right now the 3 and a center who can box out a rebound are our biggest issues.
1. Why in the world is he venting about this before talking to the coach? 2. And I'm assuming he has NOT talked to Rick, because I can only assume Rick's answer would be: "don't worry...you'll play in the 4th quarter in the regular season." And then there'd be nothing to vent about.
Because he was asked by a reporter.....the chemistry or harmony of the team, IMO will be tested this year because we have too many good players. I know Morey says....that it really isn't a problem but it is...if you can't play them all... There are team goals and individual goals to consider.....while Morey is focused on the team, each player has their own goals etc on their mind as well. Those kinds of things can be poison if not dealt with correctly. Usually that means you have some young guys that won't complain too much about playing time, right? But this team has tons of proven NBA talent from 1-12...and you can't play a 12 man rotation. And some guys are not going to be happy sitting around waiting for an injury to get into the games.... DD
I suspect this has more to do with evaluating whether or not Lee can handle Battier's role, so that Battier can be used as a vet expiring deal for a possible trade. We may be able to trade Battier at the deadline to a bottom tier playoff contender to help push them over the top for other talent and a future first, that is IF Lee can become the perimeter defensive stopper that Battier is. This would give us another pick and more talent to throw at someone for a superstar (Melo, CP3, Rubio).
