I don't think they downplay anything. I think they tell you what the doctors tell them. Hell, even Yao wanted a second opinion and that doctor said the same thing. They all said 6-10 weeks with the latter being more likely than the sooner. This might add 2-3 weeks to that timetable, but stuff happens.
No need to rush it the team is 9-1 in the last 10 games and should be 10-0 if they hadn't blown the game at Minny....not exactly struggling. DD
as long as yao makes it back for the playoffs it'll be ok. what would be more worrying is if he rushed back far too soon. i wonder if they'll rethink how they'll play yao in light of the teams performance while minding his knee. would it be wise to take a page from the bulls in how they use gordon, ie off the bench. gordon still averages the most fga and points but coming off the bench he's up against tired or lesser opponents.
Yeah, I completely agree. Yao can take his sweet time coming back, as long as we are still holding our seed for the playoff run. Granted, I would like him to come back with enough time to re-establish his position in our offense, and I think March to mid-March would probably be plenty of time to do that.
Yeah, he was the one that said 6 week timetable. I called it crazy that time. I was certain it's going to take 2 -3 months and worried Yao might not be back this season. The way how things are going for us, what more can you ask, and the fact that Yao will be back playing is just sweet.
I just went for electrical therapy for my spider bite, and the MD I talked to told me about all the things they are now using electrical therapy for - like bone breaks, and staph infections. Now Tmac and Bonzi go to an electrical therapist for muscle spasms. I would recommend Yao look into this type of therapy. I had a rich friend 25 years ago and the family sent the brother for this type of therapy when his broken leg was not healing fast enough. They had the money to make it happen. Supposedly whatever your natural healing rate is, the current will increase it.
I think he could be back by early March if we were desperate. It's possible. Seeing how we're doing, though, there's no point in him returning, so I think they figure why risk it. We'll keep playing great basketball, get ourselves in position for a title, and have Yao come back before playoffs.
I'm not sure why everyone thinks this team will collapse at any moment if we don't get Yao back. During this 9-1 streak, we've beaten some pretty decent teams and have played like studs on the road. And after the Mavs game, we've got 13 of the next 18 at home, with two of the road games being against the Hawks and the Grizzlies. And don't forget: We should have both Bonzi and Snyder back in the rotation within a few games. That's a lot of height in the backcourt and a proven scoring option in Bonzi. Considering the favorable schedule, we should be able to win at least 12 of those next 18 games. That would put us at 37-20 as of March 1. Just .500 ball from that point on would give us 49-50 wins and a #4 playoff slot. I've got a great feeling about this team. As long as ______ can avoid more ______ problems (I'm afraid to even *think* it), we'll be fine, and Yao will be refreshed and ready to kick some Mav a$$ in the playoffs. P.S. Tigermission1, any idea how much longer it'll be before this tennis elbow of mine heals?
mid to late march???!! what da hell... what's up with the original 6 weeks timeframe?? Coming back at the end of March would mean Yao's out for 3 freaking months! How can these doctors and trainers have such an inaccurate estimation on his return date, from 6 weeks to 3 months... Yao's a young healthy man, he should be able to recover ahead of schedule, i think. If yao's coming back in march, then the rockets is a 1 deke injury away from being centerless. I know when you're winning there's no need to mess with chemistry. However, like some, i agree deke wont keep up this kind of performance for the entire season, especially logging 30+ minutes. I'm still skeptic about hayes as a backup at both 4 and 5. I agree we need a backup center, unless yao'll be back next month.
sure we'll get both bonzi and snyder back, but problem is they both play the same position. Head's gonna get his backup minute at 2, and battier will log his 40 or so minutes at 3 and 4. So unless howard struggles, not sure how u gonna find minutes for both bonzi and snyder.
my concern isnt Yao... we all know he comes back just as good if not stronger... when he goes down... it isnt our role players they have stepped up... its Tmac... I am so scared to come to the Board and read what we are all thinking... im thinking if its a 4th quarter and our team is down by 20 points in a game... Tmac needs to sit... and even the guys in the dog house... rookies... need to be played... and im in agreement... all we need to do is make the playoffs...with some of the bottom rung teams playing 500 ball.... in the west and with a healthy Tmac and Yao... and our other players knowing they can compete with the best...we have a outside shot...in the playoffs... thats all we can ask for...
I hope he's not! but I want Yao to play with the team at least a month before Playoffs that way he along with the team could feel comfortable. I do think health wise he'll be good when he comes back.
Kind of tough maintaining/regaining conditioning with a leg injury. Late March affords enough time to peak for the play offs. I just hope: -Yao returns not one day too soon (to cause a setback). -Deke can hold on for another 10 weeks or so without exhausting himself.
This shouldn't surprise anyone. You don't just magically heal and then play full-tilt basketball. The team should do OK (T-Back notwithstanding), but we should look into dealing for a solid backup center. Detroit seems to make sense, if we can pry Nazi M. away (good-bye Bonzi). For whatever the reason, Bonzi does keep coming down with one "ailment" after another. Since we're playing OK without him, and since Snyder'll be back soon anyway....
I really thought he would be back by the end of Feb...i thik the Rockets are putting this late return timetable out there to take the pressure off of Yaol...i'm sure he is feeling intense pressure from himself and his fans to come back...he is a compeittor and the Rockets don't want him to rush back....if he starts rehabbing in Mid Feb, i think he will be back at the end of Feb or very biginnig of March, making everybody happy.....I don't think it will be mid march...that might be wishful thinking but i think the Rockets are being more conservative now that we aer winning without him...
