Actually, the main reason that Reed hasn't played has been because he injured his ankle in practice. When he has played, he has actually played pretty well. Unless Adelman is convinced that Novak can help the team, then the Rockets should probably keep Reed. Justin is owed $1.5M this season and next season. By keeping him, the team can always package him in a trade anytime this year or next. Oh, yeah, and the Rockets get a combo forward who can defend and hit a mid-range jumper.
Actually, the Rockets have a TEAM option on Butler for 2008-09. By waiving Butler, the team is deemed to have declined to exercise that option. So, therefore, the Rockets will only owe Butler his salary for this season.
Agree. I was optimistic that he could develop some skills, or see the wizard for a brain. Maybe he will..... Good luck to JBut. It does smell of a looming trade. I'm still a Novak homer though, please keep him!
Let's hope they released Butler because some other team promised to pick him up off waivers (thus taking on his salary). we can hope, can't we.
No Surprise here!! To me In all the preseason games Butler didn't illustrate anything which convinced me that he was a NBA player. In fact I wasn't sure that he had any idea what he was supposed to be doing! So far my predictions are 100% on the ball!!
Now why the heck would any team do that when they could just wait for him to come off waivers and then sign him? Yeah, it would be nice if someone took the contract off our hands. But if you remember SA had to put Scola in the deal simply to dump Butler's salary.
i don't know. Maybe because they were partially interested in a trade for him and we rejected it saying we don't want any salary or players back in the deal. sumpin like that. you know, sumpin Morey would do.
So far, that's how my personal prediction has gone - cutting Sura, Harris, Lucas, Butler, and....? My gut tells me it will be Snyder. But really it comes down to Snyder, Novak or Reed. The question now is, why not make that third cut yet? Only reason I can think of is, there's still at least some outside chance that a trade is cooking. Meaning, now it could be someone else involved, in addition to those remaining three guys, maybe a 2-for-1 or something.. so, suddenly, guys like Landry, Hayes, Novak and Head now must also be squirming a little. However, we probably won't hear about something like that until after it happens, so for the time being, it's still just one more guy who has to go. So long Kirk, good luck!

Interesting how the Rockets have released 3 players before releasing Bob Sura. Could Bob Sura be making a comeback?? Kidding of course. Most likely, Morey is in the midst of a trade, probably Snyder and/or Novak + Sura's contract for whatever.

In waiving Butler IMO they'll keep Snyder. They need his salary to get under under LT. If they do cut Snyder as well it could mean having to trade a non-scrub player to get under LT.
I thought they would waive Snyder before they waive Butler...that's a 5 million dollar cut... ..If Rockets can't trade Snyder..Reed is next and he'll cost us 3 mil..
im a little surprised about releasing Butler. I know he's just a bruiser, but worse case scenario its nice to have a guy like that...just in case.
Why would they have cut Harris in the first place? The only scenario they would sign Harris back is to free up a roster spot by a 2 for 1 trade. It is quite possible that a trade is coming up. Otherwise, why haven't they cut the last guy yet?
